I am not proud, lol. The sugar high and consequent crash would have frightened witnesses but I was home with just the cats and they looked at me as though I were an alien predator.

you know what helps, me, mitigate the highs and lows of my sugary full fat pint??

a strong cup of black tea, such as an english breakfast, with a pinch of ceylon cinnamon.

as a result, i actually do not experience the sugar high and crash, thereafter. just contentment

Hmm, I shall try that instead of a vodka tonic. Fizzy water + ice cream = bloat.

I wish we still had some sort of political thread. I didn’t like the heated arguments, but I am afraid for our country and wish we had a group for the support that discussions bring.

Meanwhile, Lyra, your avatar is still one of my favorites. Your pup and mine look a lot alike, but the whimsical expression in the avatar is unique.

I miss the political threads too Jimmianne. You aren’t the only one who is worried about the future of our country.

@lyra, Some of the anniversaries you mentioned would cause one to feel sad during normal times. This virus has many people feeling out of sorts. Be kind to yourself. I hope you are feeling better today.

you know how my dad used to eat his ice cream?? he would pour a splash of cognac into his ice cream. ive never acquired a taste for cognac, in my ice cream. but for a time i was quite into liqueur filled chocolates. ethel m. chocolates makes really fantastic ones!!
neuhaus produces liquor filled chocolates, as well. but i've never tried them ...

I need to order some of those Ethel M chocolates. They are delicious! I discovered them in the airport at Las Vegas so had a small box to eat while sitting in the jacuzzi tub....

I should have bought ice cream! The suggestions here sound so good, and I'm not usually an ice cream eater. But if I zhoosed it up in some adult way, that would be great.

Serve in a pretty cup with a shot of espresso.
Or over a warm brownie...

I forgot to get baked beans in my pick up order. Okay, Instacart reminded me I had a big discount with them on my next order. Marco has been shopping for 5 items for nearly an hour. Seriously. This would have been 10 minutes for me in the store!

Baked beans, pickles, 1 package TP, buttery sticks, slice of cake. Pickles & buttery are in same aisle directly across from each other. TP is obvious and right next to the bakery. All items had substitutions pre-approved.

What is he doing in there!?! I am not in a rush. Just fascinated it could take so long!

i'd imagine rum, bourbon, cognac, whiskey would be good for a more potent "zhoose" up of your ice cream

while amaretto, frangelico, grand marnier, kahlua would be a softer "zhoose"

ive heard of a vodka ice cream float

you are so civilized. i just serve myself straight out of the pint container.

If I make it more work, I do it far less often
Between college for too many years, medical misery after medical misery, and other long stories I need all the deterrent I can get to keep me away from that stuff except the occasional small treat!

Hello, my puppy King was diagnosed with Laryngeal Paralysis on last Tuesday . A very bad thing but they say it is not the end of the world. We are considering a tie back surgery. Our vet gave us suggestions for where to look for a good surgeon in our area (SF Bay area). We are looking for a GREAT surgeon actually. Please if you know the one of the GREAT specialists, let me know his/her name too. Thank you in advance!

I had joined a closed support group on FB, reading and learning, and asking questions. Much less time to spend on PS, no plans to buy any bling or CS in the nearest future :(. We are not allowed to discuss any politics or religions too but of course it is possible to check each other's personal pages and see...

@Queenie60 sorry for bothering you. Do you know any great surgeon here? Unfortunately, there are less than 4K members in that support group and so far I didn't find anyone from our area.

Attaching the pictures of my baby waiting for being examined (he has already got a shot of sedatives).

Thank you so much! No, I am not considering any fundraiser. I am very touched by your reaction, we are able to pay for the surgery, just no more unnecessary purchases. Of course, when I decide to buy my first 10ct fancy red diamond, I will ask for the financial help, any amount of $ matters :lol::lol: Thank you again, you are a very kindhearted person.

Only asking for any advise on where to find a great surgeon for the doggie. There is the UC Davis School of Veterinary medicine not far from us, the only problem is our doggie himself. Aggressive (extremely) toward strangers. Only allows to give him a shot of sedatives if my husband and I assist (restrain him). During the pandemic not every vet facility welcomes humans inside. So looking for the surgeon outside of UC Davis, some private hospital with a great specialist.

A friend has a dog who has to have serious pill dose before leaving home then she helps the vet do sedative shot in car. Not sure if that helps you or not, but passing along in case. Sending you hugs and hoping you find a truly great surgeon to help!

@musla - I do not know of any canine surgeons and am not sure what the surgery is that your dog needs. Try Dr. David Reed in Saratoga @ Reed Animal Hospital on Saratoga/Sunnyvale Road. He performed my pups surgery 2 years ago to remove a golf ball sized tumor in his hip. Dr. Reed has been around for many years and is very resourceful and may have a good recommendation for you. Tell him that Martha, Maggie May's mom had you call. They know me very well.

@Musia sorry about your King’s diagnosis. He looks like a fine boy who is much loved. I guess I would still try UC Davis - they are probably used to all dog personalities. And could understand King’s protective urges. Here’s my Cheyenne who can also be a little protective.

@Musia I am so sorry about King's diagnosis.:(
I hope you can find a surgeon who will be able to help your sweet baby. May I ask what area you are looking in for a surgeon? IDK if my sister would know of anyone (she is a vet in the NY area) but I could ask her if you would like. Again I am so very sorry and sending bucketloads of good luck dust to all of you and lots of healing dust and well wishes to King.

ETA: OK I just reread (all I saw was King's diagnosis and I didn't fully read) and see you are near UC Davis Vet school. That is likely your very best bet. I will ask my sister however and see if she knows of anyone else. But I don't think you can go wrong with the vet school there.

your local ice cream shop sounds amazing!!!

giving you the keys to the shop, is so lovely and old school. i love and miss the way small businesses did that, in the past. i still see remnants of it here and there, thankfully

one day, when the world is right again, i would love to visit his shop and try the ice cream that jimmy makes. both the vegan and non vegan flavours, one day ...

ive tried many vegan ice creams as i used to be vegan, for a time, but none impressed. with the exception of van leeuwen. they are local to you, i believe. van leeuwen is from brooklyn. they make an french style earl grey ice cream that i am "in love" with.

i indulge in my pint of van leeuwen earl grey, each day. sometimes, i will have haagen daaz matcha when i want a less rich "palate cleanser" full fat ice cream.

there's also mcconnell's ice cream that is local to santa barbara. really delicious!!! I enjoy euraka lemon and marionberry, turkish coffee and salted caramel chip.

ive tried jeni's but not enough pints to come to any conclusions, just yet. but so far so good

i never used to indulge in a pint a day. but with the world the way it is, i am seeking self soothing and comfort, ice cream is it, for me. no need for cakes, brownies, pies, cookies ...
just a pint of ice cream ... and all is right and good again ... it helps me cope ..

Yeah he is (and his staff and the homemade ice cream) pretty amazing. We don't technically order a pint. Rather we order 3 scoops. But this is what he gives us lol and who are we to complain? I have tried Van Leeuwen and Jimmy's ice cream is way better. I am not exaggerating. It is that good.

I am with you re it is OK to eat however much ice cream we want as long as health wise it doesn't affect us too negatively. I am getting blood work next week with my endocrinologist and I just hope my cholesterol isn't too high. It has been creeping up but a daily pint of ice cream a day has a way of doing that to me haha.

I have developed a very unholy relationship with Haagen Dazs swiss almond vanilla and think maybe I should sue the company for making the product and displaying it in glass cases from which I can't possibly avert my eyes. There have been a few days where I ate 2 pints :-o

I see nothing wrong with that at all. Sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do and no one is in a position to judge. There are days I come home after we have had a pint of ice cream during our cycling break and enjoy more ice cream after our dinner. And yes it is another pint. So yeah nobody judge me please. I am not a bad person. I just love ice cream. And that is OK. @Matata have you ever tried Ben and Jerry's Heathbar Crunch? Before I couldn't eat dairy (and when I was in college) I used to eat a pint (or more) of Ben and Jerry's Heathbar Crunch. So good. :lickout:

Loan approved, movers confirmed (current house to storage), two storage units ready to fill. Truck rented to move airplane parts out of garage next week. Started to buy the stuff needed to prep the house. Packing starts in high gear after lunch. Got less than 3 weeks until movers are here....

Congratulations @TooPatient !!! That is amazing wonderful news!!!:appl:

Try Dr. David Reed in Saratoga @ Reed Animal Hospital on Saratoga/Sunnyvale Road.

Thank you very much! You are very sweet and caring :love::love:. We are his clients since he opened his new hospital in Saratoga too! My daughter uses his Campbell facility. Dr. Reed himself is our 5 cat's vet, but King sees Dr. Amy Eberle in Saratoga. Dr. Dave Reed performed 2 surgeries on our late cat Sonya, cancer also. If you look at the pictures of people's pets on the aquarium, you may see this one

Our Basya (first Basya, we have another Basya whom we adopted after this little one had died of pneumonia at the age of 10.5 months young, she had spent her last 3 days at the hospital and died there). When I am in the waiting area, I always pull our Basya's portrait to the front center ;(.

They don't do tie back surgeries and Dr. Amy Eberle didn't give us names of the GREAT surgeons, she only recommended 2 facilities. But she will help us in case we decide to go to the UC Davis, she graduated from that School. Thank you @caf, your doggie is majestic, looks like she has GSD blood in her :kiss2:

@Musia I just spoke with my sister. She doesn't know anyone in the area but she does confirm that UC Davis has excellent surgeons and there should be someone there who can help. And of course make sure the surgeon is board certified. She said UC Davis has an excellent vet school. She also said if it is possible to avoid surgery to do so since it is a long complicated surgery but I told her that King needs surgery. She wishes you and King lots of good luck for a successful surgery. As do I and all the PSers reading this.

will you share the name of jimmy's shop?? i would like to inquire to see if he will be able to ship is product to california

im sharing how i have been coping with this new way of life. ive been serving myself a daily pint of ice cream to soothe and comfort .... as @Jimmianne shared her "chocolate chip cookies" on her nightstand and @Matata shared her "unholy" relationship with haagen daaz swiss almond swirl.

i dont believe "eat however much ice cream" is all that "ok" (in my case it is a pint, to a pint and a half. in @Matata 's case it is a pint, occassionally 2 pints)

to me, these past six months are not ok times. so i have indulged to cope. i have not encouraged irresponsible ice cream consumption. merely, sharing my own

rather surprised at your concern for your cholesterol as you consume vegan non-dairy ice cream. whilst, some or perhaps most of us, enjoy full fat dairy ice cream

Thank you for reminding me about pills, we indeed got a vial of trazodone 100mg (1.5-2pills 45 min before the unpleasant or exciting event). Will give him prior the consultation. :kiss2:

@Musia thanks - she is majestic. Rescue dog from Texas who’d had a hard life before we got her. Now she’s living the dream. She still patrols though - making sure we’re all safe! Big hugs to King!

Thank you Missy for talking to your sister. Yes, the surgery is going to be long and complicated, but the good news is that that doggie is relatively young and strong. Most of the patients are 12y.o. labs with limited mobility and they usually do great during and after surgery. The bad news is that the pup could easily die in front of us if he has a major breathing episode, has stridor and gets even more excited. We experienced the horror of nearly death episode last Sunday. Of course, now we know the cause of it and will be 150% sure to avoid everything. But the doggie is young, needs exercise, our own backyard is 10'X20' only and there is no way he will use a treadmill for us. And of course, any vet visit for any reason could cost him his life. So the only solution is a surgery. Thanks again for the best wishes. :kiss2::kiss2::kiss2:

Talk to your vet and see if you should do even earlier. My anxious guy gets a couple of pills the night before and then again an hour before his appointment. The extra dose the evening before helps him be mellow to begin with. The day I had an unexpected visit, they worked far less well than the usual night before then hour before appointment.

Coconut milk ice cream is very high in saturated fat. My cholesterol has increased since I started eating it daily.

I don't think Jimmy ships his ice cream. He does local delivery and that is it. I will ask him for you next time we see him if we would be willing to. I doubt it though as it would be difficult. He is a one man operation basically and during the week it is just him. Especially now that summer is over he only has help on the weekends.

I believe ice cream is good for the soul. :)
