I have an idea! Please give opinions on this setting.

Yes, I am still undecided on a setting for my new 3.55 OEC. :nono:

I still have few different options, but I would like some thoughts on this idea. This is a modification on my current setting. I would like to have WG basket/prongs this time AND I am adding a donut. So, while I was drawing it up I was suddenly inspired by the Cartier trinity ring with 3 metals. I think this would be pretty subtle...hopefully. I like the idea of a simple solitaire but with a decorative gallery that gives me a lot of options for stacking different color bands. I am really liking this.

Then, I wonder if I'm crazy and it's tacky.

I know 3 metals is not everyone's cup of tea (it wouldn't usually be mine), but for some reason it's speaking to me.

Also, there are some technical problems like how to fit the RG milgrained leaf details in there. There doesn't seem to be enough room in the current iteration. Do I need that bar across the top or not?

Thoughts?

I do like the idea but the drawing is so similar to the current setting instead of a line of diamonds you have the rose gold flowers. I happen to like current setting. If your going to change make a more drastic change????

I'm personally not a fan of the three-metal look (though I love mixed yellow and white). The nature-y detail is very sweet 8) Is it your intention to close off the profile view of your diamond, though? And are the branches going to be curved (if you visualize the basket as a bowl, the branches technically have to curve, right? Like >> )))))

I like the idea but I just loooooooooove the current ring so much...

Yep! It is very similar. I admit I really like the current setting, but since I have the opportunity to tweak it and make it something I LOVE I figure why not!

I have felt like the current setting needed two changes: WG basket/prongs and donut.

Now you are in territory where I have NO idea! Not sure how much it would close of the profile view. I think I am okay with that. I think the branches would be curved like the current cathedral shank. Not sure though. :|

I think it's helpful to reference Haven's ring since it was one of my inspirations from the beginning.

Thanks. I do too! I just can't figure out how to make it fluid with two-tone while keeping the exact same design. So, I am thinking this idea through. Not sure about it yet.

Here is a picture where I added the bar back in.

This is a gorgeous Idea, but I really like your current setting too.

Thanks AprilBaby!

Part of what I like about this idea is that it takes the parts I like about my current setting and tweaks the parts I don't like. Plus adding in a little "fancy".

Trying to figure out if it is structurally possible. :D

I am 100% in agreement about changing the basket/prongs to white metal and adding the doughnut. Those are the exact things I would do if I were having that ring made. I really love it as it is with those changes, so I can't say that I like the new design as well. I also think 2 metals would be all I would include. I am sure it could be beautiful, but I think you came very close to ideal on your first design!

I love the tri-color look and think the rose gold leaves will be so subtle you probably won't notice them unless you're looking for them. I'm not a fan of the bar, but I don't think v1 looks structurally sound to me. What if you enlarged the leaves to take up more vertical space in the gallery and have the pieces touching -- like /0\ in the middle. I know that's a horrible representation. I think there's a way to do it and make it work. Maybe see what Adam thinks? (If I remember you're using OWD right?)

I think 3 metals would be darn cool! Definitely something unique and the third metal, the RG, is such a subtle detail.

DS, well I take your opinion very seriously because those were the 2 notes you had on my setting the first time around. Whoops! I can be so stubborn. I can just hear my Mom telling me that I just have to learn from MY OWN mistakes. I was 100% determined to do ALL YG. the donut ( doughnut) should have been in the first setting...miscommunication between me and Adam and inexperience on my part.

Anyway, thanks for your input! :D

Yes, using OWD. I don't love the bar with it either. That is a good idea to make the pieces touching. I am going to attempt another drawing where the leaves take up all the space where the bar should be. Thanks for the idea!!!

Honestly, I go through so many ideas (some crazy, some not), I don't want to discuss it with Adam unless I am feeling 95% confident that it is THE setting. ;)

Thanks Jereni! It is funny bc when I see 3 metals in a B&M store I think "yuck", but when done properly and subtly I am hoping it could be beautiful. I think I need to let the idea marinate a bit more.

A guy here in Australia won an award with a thick metal band which was really two thin rounded bands and inside/in between them were intricate leaves and a square shaped radiant just over a carat in the middle - he used 3 different coloured metals. Normally I would shy away from 3 metals mixed together but it looked amazing, unfortunately I don't have a pic of it and he doesn't have one either to my knowledge. The trinity rings everyone buys are also three colours and they work just fine, so provided it is done well I think it could be O.K. It is a really pretty design!!!

Can the donut be part of the lower ring itself, rather than sitting on it? I also think the bar makes the ring too busy and covers up too much of the OEC. I find that 3 different metal colours gets distracting and if done incorrectly, can end up making the ring look cheap. Think Black Hills gold jewellery. Please excuse my Kindergarten level edits.

Love your design. Although I must also say that your current setting is one of my PS favourites

But your new design is really pretty. So... I guess you are changing a winning team but the new one will be a winner as well! Personally, I would not use 3 metals as it can take away from the timeless elegance your current ring has.

Hey, Val. Many of you ps'ers are so adventuresome when it comes to jewelry. Buying huge diamonds off Ebay or doing your own designs, etc. I'm not like that, so I live vicariously through you.
Though in the minority, I think, I like the mixed metal look, whether two or three colors. Rose gold leaves would most likely be very subtle. I don't think Adam would make anything "tacky" for you.
Have you considered Haven's ring with one small change, leaves instead of curly cues?

Oh wow! sounds amazing. Wish I could see a picture of that! I know it's a total risk. Ugh! But, a large part of me really wants to go for it!

Yes, I do think it can be a part of the lower ring...still trying to decide if I am doing it Haven style with the donut and prongs in the same metal and another metal wrapping around it.

Your comment about it looking cheap is EXACTLY what I am afraid of. I am going to have to seriously think about this one and determine if my gut instinct is cheap or elegant. Good points, thanks!!!

Ha ha! I don't go NEAR ebay! I bow down to those with the balls to do that!!!

I have just drawn up some new designs based on the feedback here. I messed around with the colors a bit and ended up having to Haven-it a bit more with the shank because it seemed to need a more scrolly look to work.

OMG I LOVE IT. Also, you are a fabulous artist and I'm jealous of your skills. My sketches to design my ring looked like a child got ahold of some pencils. I really really think the 3 metals together will not look tacky here. I know it's one of those things that if tacky is TACKY, but I think the design you've worked out is really beautiful and I love the idea of being able to mix and match stackers and everything still coordinate. I think it would be really fun if you could find some tiny rose cut diamonds for the middle stone!

Thanks! That is so nice to hear! I know we "keep it real" on PS!!!

As for the artistic skills  I did NOT get that gene in my family. I am not a natural artist AT ALL. I am just VERY determined and have a good eraser!

FABULOUS idea for a RC diamond in the center! I love it!

Rose cut--yes!

I am also running into a problem on how to handle the cathedral shank. Do I make curly cues now or keep it as is? There is no bar anymore so what do I put there?

Or would the same design go on the side? :?

I adore your all yellow gold setting and much prefer the look rather than two tone or three in this case. Do what makes you happy!
