Its too small for my finger. Its a 6 and I'm a 7.25.... but I squeezed into it to get a look at it.... ignore the cut on my hand

I noticed you've switched that onto your e-ring hand, and moved your e-ring to a RHR!

Only for the picture. It won't fit in my RH ring finger as it is now, I can squeeze it onto my left.

It as it sits now it doesn't look amazing with my wedding band so as you are totally right I will switch them up now, but after the wedding who knows. The stone sits a little high in the setting and needs to be a little lower before it'll go well with my Trinity.

But yes you and bcat are right I will totally switch them up when my mood permits. while still engaged at least I think my hands look pretty cool.

My FI for some reason seems to have an affinity for the marquise. He couldn't care less about my round but he always gets interested in this shape. Even more than my old pear

I knew you were going to do it!!. That's what I would do! I think it looks better this way.

Re: I bought a dirt cheap diamond off eBay.

I love it, classic look!

Re: I bought a dirt cheap diamond off eBay.

I don't think you need us to help find something for you for the SIL, I think YOU do pretty damn well on your own!!!! Pretty stone, great finger presence, and it's very white facing for an "L" colour!!!!

Right! Very white. I'll be interested what the appraisal says, as I always assume the seller is going to round up. Like to get it cert'ed one day but that's a long ways off. Now I just need an appraisal for insurancd , as the I1 makes me want the extra protection lol.

Thanks. I still like my Trinity with my 5 stone, the marquise is so darn flattering on the hand anything paired with it seems to take away the beauty (slightly)

I can see why all those 80s rings just used wrap wedding bands.... though I do not condone then

Re: I bought a dirt cheap diamond off eBay.

I checked it has no fluor. Which I am a little sad about, but that would have only been icing on the cake. I got a picture of the inclusion. It actually is really hard to see. The inclusion actually helps me because the bowtie looks better with the inclusion pointing away from my hand, so its a nice indicator ::)

But I have to like put it right next to my face and squint to see where it is.

Again the bowtie isn't bad, it just eats up my black phone anytime I get it too close

No reason you ca't start a "stacker" set.... :naughty: I think the marquise would be pretty paired with a skinny stacker....just sayin'...

Re: I bought a dirt cheap diamond off eBay.

congrats neil that's a gorgeous ring wear it in good health. Are you still looking for your FBIL? I remember you mentioning that you wished you could find a colored stone in a nice filigree setting, I found this at way below budget if you're interested is there anyway I can contact you privately to give you the link?

Re: I bought a dirt cheap diamond off eBay.

Hey niel I just posted it in your wtb post on pre-loved I feel it maybe a little safer to post it there.

Re: I bought a dirt cheap diamond off eBay.

Hi Niel :wavey:
Partly because of your enthusiasm for marquise cut diamonds I got bitten by the marquise bug too!
Do you wear your ring standalone or stacked? I think I have seen a photo a while ago of your ring together with your cartier 3-colour ring? But I cannot find it unfortunately. Will a marquise ring be nice in combination with an eternity do you think?

Re: I bought a dirt cheap diamond off eBay.

Oh yay! Welcome to the club

It looks good with my trinity in theory, but the band it ce on is too think if I ever reset it into a solitaire (which I've considered) I would do it often as it looks nice.

I think with an eternity it would look good. Mine looks redicuous as my 5 stone is graduated so the 84 point center stone next to the 90ish point marquise is just over the top.

But with a normal one yeah I think it looks good. Maybe even e/w. I think it could be easily stacke with staker bands I'd set in a thin bezel. E/w or n/s

Re: I bought a dirt cheap diamond off eBay.

I love it but I am biased. I think you did great. The classic style is beautiful. The size you found is the size I would love to add in my ring some day closer to a .8. I think that size marquise looks great without getting in the way of life at least for me with small fingers.

I have the same style ring as my ering but with rubies. And mine is .5 on a 3 3/4 hand.
So you can see what it looks like with a stack ring here is mine with a small wedding band I got last year. I like this style stacked with small diamond bands.

Re: I bought a dirt cheap diamond off eBay.

Niel, I thought of you and your beautiful ring yesterday…I was in Macy's and a young couple walked by, and being the bling-checker I am I glanced down at her hand and she had a marquise ering very similar to your ring and it looked amazing!!

Re: I bought a dirt cheap diamond off eBay.

Thanks Niel and Rubymd!!!

What's really remarkable is that initially I was not even fond about marquises. They have really grown on me due to eye candy I saw here on PS. I am now considering buying one :appl: :appl:

What I love about marquises is the elongated form and the understated chique beauty. I will first study a bit here on PS to learn what (not) to look for when buying a marquise.

Love yours too Rubymd!!! It looks so nice with the Rubies as sidestones.

I too think they look lovely with a super thin stacker! You can really emphasize "the gap" this way if gaps are something you get in to. It's not a diamond, but here's an antique ring I almost always wear with a stacker. It's a rather large marquise shape, but I still think it looks fun with a stacker on my right hand though the stacker band usually tucks under the ring (no big deal since it's a little big for me anyway).

So I bought a diamond marquise ring off eBay last week. It was a L(ish) I1 ( ish) marquise measuring about 10.3x5.1.

Based on the description, I would have stayed far away from it :???:

BUT it had a tempting price tag and a free return I had to pull the trigger.

It came today and I am amazed!!

The sparkle is what surprised me first. The tips are so fiery. No dead areas at all. The clarity in no way decreases the sparkle factor. it has a bowtie, but its not a bothersome one.

Second the clarity. Looking at it not the hand I see nothing! There's a feather you can see at about 6 inches, but as a RHR I'm comfortable with that, its hard to find unless you're looking.

Color: this was the number one thing holding me back. The h in my pear sometimes was unattractive. So an L... how could I like it. Well this stone is so flipping well cut and bright it doesn't get dingy or ugly at all. It a chameleon. In some lights its a twinge yellow but again not dingy. Often times still really white.

The setting. Its a but high, but the baguettes are beautiful and the setting makes the marquise look classic. Not at all 80s

Price. As some of you know I'm looking for a cheap ring for my FBIL. this ring was just barely out of his budget!!

I'm having trouble getting a good pic because my camera phone has a black back and it makes the bowtie seem SOOO much more predominant than it is.

It is probably also because you are close to the stone and causing more obstruction than normal when viewing the diamond.

Welcome to the Dark Side.

Wink

That's funny because a few of my twenty something friends also seem to like the shape. One friend of mine is buying one to put in a HW style halo for his girlfriend. She's 21.

If I keep saying their coming back it'll eventually be true, right??

I was the same. I hated them. But just because I thought I was suppose to, I think. I'm not sure.

Would you try for an antique one?? How much would you spend?

There's an antique one on JA right now but it's under a ct and might or might not be eye clean.

Ah cross post!

I love that it sounds chubby but I couldn't say. How's the bow tie? Is it dark when you look at it all the time or just photos or not at all?

The other thing that can happen with bow ties is that the center performs well, but just north and south it gets mushy and under performs.

Do the tips perform too?

I bet it's nice sense it's an antique. Those seem to perform better. AS do chubby ones. I need a pic! Antique chubbquise with fluorescence ? Sounds AMAZING
