How are you eating during the virus lockdown?

@Daisys and Diamonds I can totally understand your frustration. I think for some people, it’s challenging to pick the best values on the fly, and make sure that they’re all things that can be used together to create a meal. My husband has gotten better at it over the years, but he’d live on processed foods and sandwiches if left to his own devices.

My oysters arrived in time for happy hour today! 50 Nonesuch Emeralds from Maine; the type I got is on the right:

HI:

Gnocchi with pesto crème, kale salad and hot wings.

cheers--Sharon

Yum
And i feel a bit better to know its not just Gary who does this

You have given me a meal idea there, for in a few days when a few more tomatoes have rippened

and when this is over im going to buy some pine nuts and make pesto with the basil ive frozen from the garden

Matt does this too. He buys all name brands and even if something is buy one get one free, he won't buy the second one. Because he only wanted one.

Making progress on my veggie sprouts. Hoping these turn into delicious fresh veggies this summer!

One flat of rainbow heirloom tomatoes, 1/2 flat red cherry tomatoes, 1/2 flat gold nugget, and the egg carton is bell peppers and habenero peppers. Plus a pot of scallions I got to grow after using their tops and sticking in water to get roots growing again.

i feel slightly better lots of other men out there are terrible shoppers but im still angry when i open the fridge trying to think what's for lunch or tea

this was inspired by @mellowyellowgirl
Gary brought cheese & beer kransky even though he doesn't like kransky when i buy them
i probably shouldn't have used all the ripe tomatoes but oh well

the side salad was just leaves but at least its green

when i was down the garden shed giving the stray some breakfast i found 3 small brunches of ripe grapes, unfortunately the wet wheather has now arrived so im not sure how many more we will get
i had been going to make grape jelly this year but ive eatten them for lunch instead

im definatly going to plant more fruit trees, i had desided not to plant a kiwi fruit because even though you need a male and female vine you get a huge amount of fruit but ive desided now that's a good thing and i want a couple of plums and an apple

ill invest in a little chest freezer too once im working again

Odd combination for dinner, but very good. Matzah ball soup with fresh baked challah. (This is DH's plate . Mine was a single matzah ball and just a taste of the challah. So delicious but too many calories and wheat is no good for me :cry2: )IMG_20200418_002119598.jpg

@Daisys and Diamonds love it!!!!

Chopped sausage plus pasta is my go to when I'm not eating and the boys need dinner!

They took an hour, wasted a tonne of coal to produce these two grey, well done steaks (were well done by the time they finished).

I went out for a walk but left them with a potato salad and chimchurri.

and Borris had Gary's tuna in springwater !
they have been such good cats, eatting the store brand food and Tibby has only asked for cat lollies (temptations) once :(2
im not doing so well with his portion sizes as i usually buy sachets and its not like he says Stop ! That's enough ! i noticed a big tin lasted the same amount of serves as a small tin so im not doing it right

Please excuse my terrible unmoulding skills!

Creme caramel or flan as I believe some of you guys call it.

@Daisys and Diamonds those biscuits look beautiful!!!!

I throw almond meal into most of the basic bake goods for the boys (muffins, loaves).

They need the additional calories so it's always am extra cup of almond meal into the recipe.

i don't know what looks best the flan or the pretty plate :appl:

unfortunately i forgot to store my almond meal in the freezer and it went rancid- lesson learnt

last night at 2am i was watching this travel cuisine programme in Turkey
the ladies lived waaaay out in the back of beyound and came together to preserve their Autumn bounty for the winter
anyway i watched really closely at the flat bread
i still had half my dough in the fridge
i have rolled it out much thinner, sprinkled it in salt and rosemary-ed the pan
it needed a lot of olive oil but they are now more palatable 20200419_170513.jpg

Do you want a puff (air bubbles or giant bubble that form when you cook it) in yours @Daisys and Diamonds?

My mob love a puff so the more it puffs the better.

I got into some baking again today - made another batch of the apple spice buns because we gave most of the last batch away and they were the nicest of last week’s baking. I also made some cookies per our favourite bakery’s recipe. so! much! sugar! H was delighted - he has a wicked sweet tooth!

Then I thawed some pizza dough and made flat breads which we topped with shredded slow-cooked beef cheek, hummus, coleslaw and quick pickled red onions.

@Daisys and Diamonds Gary missed out if he didn’t like it - that looks tasty! Also the Kiwi choc chippies, with condensed milk right? Those are so good but H likes the American-style more.
@mellowyellowgirl that soup looks so tasty. My stomach is growling!

Oh that looks scrumptious. :lickout:

Too many delish dishes here, though I have to skim past the desserts/cookies, as I am not allowed any dairy or sugar or gluten.

That looks sooo yummy! :lickout:

Are you Vietnamese? You've cooked a bunch of Vietnamese dishes.

I love bun bo hue. I think I will make it this coming week.

Yes I am!!! Lol please excuse my beef balls in the dish! I forgot to defrost my "Cha lua" (pork loaf) in time for dinner.

Oooh I'm so excited you are familiar with Viet food!!!!!

Lol let me think of more Viet dishes to make:kiss2:

Look forward to seeing more of your Viet dishes!

Omg I'm so so so excited to meet a fellow Viet *squeeeeeeee*

Nah I didn't make the cha lua. It's one of those things that's too Viet for the boys so I'm the only one who eats it.

You live in Singapore right? Can you get Viet food there?

Meee tooo!!:)

I do, yes. There are some Viet restaurants here but the food is not great. If I want to eat decent Viet food, I'll have to make it myself (at the risk of sounding immodest, lol).

I've been making mostly scrambled eggs this week. We eat a lot of scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. That's normal for us. I know it's probably a gross combo for many.

I’ve lost 4 pounds, but I’m supposed to be getting gastric sleeve in May, so I’m supposed to be losing weight before the surgery anyway.

It’s very obvious that I shouldn’t gain any weight before surgery, so I’m working very hard on that.

My kids have lost weight as well. We all decided together that we didn’t want this to be like an extended holiday Christmas season etc where 10 pounds is expected.

Don’t get me wrong.... it’s hard. But with only going to the grocery and cooking everything from scratch, it’s sort of been a more natural process anyway.

Well sheeeeeeeeeet... I just ate my 4 o'clock chocolate. It's only 1:30.

We had some fresh blueberries so I decided to modify a raspberry cream cheese coffeecake recipe. It calls for preserves so I just tossed on the fresh instead. I did forget to make the studel part. This is a different take on coffeecake. It has a yeast bread on bottom then the cream cheese and fruit on top.IMG_20200419_105621460.jpg
