To me the constant stream of people getting worked up into hysteria does nothing to help the situation other than creating a constant divide between our citizens. And the media feeds it. I am glad Mueller has done what he has so far. I hope what has come out will set a fire under our agencies that are supposed to be keeping tabs on all the foreign entities that would like to see the fall of the US. Trump is an idiot in his manner but I do not wish for him to fail and never have. Those who do are by extension wishing demise of the US as well. You (collective) can hate him all you want but that doesn't turn into impeachment or any other situation that gets him out of office. Unless Mueller comes up with some crime that will get through the Senate as an impeachable offense then he is there until January of 2020. I am all for protest and having your voice heard but things like the Uber driver that refused to serve three young black DC interns because of their politics is completely and utterly ridiculous, and very SAD. If that is the world you want to live in then I guess you can have it. Glad I am getting older and may not live to see it come to fruition but I feel for my kids. Intolerance is intolerable. I cannot imagine being so bound up in politics, it must be like being constipated 24/7. :mrgreen2:

No they are not. Trump is an elected official, arguably the of the worst in living memory. Wanting him and HIS POLICIES to fail, is no more synonymous with "wishing the demise of the US" (which I could label as having a pretty hyperbolic "hysterical" tone too) than elected-official Trump being synonymous with America. It simply means many people - myself include - absolutely do not want the vision of America that you do. It's two diametrically opposed world views. And it's just the latest hot manifestation of the same schism we've been dealing with since the beginning.

If he fails then by extension it hurts the US. Bill Maher wants the economy to fail because it will hurt Trump and people agree with him. We can see things differently without the reactions that otherwise rational people would have both from the extreme right and left. Would you refuse to serve someone because of their politics? I wouldn't unless they were belligerent or violent. Do you like this particular manifestation of that schism?

Edit - Not having the same vision of America is perfectly fine BTW and normal for our country with it's two party system. And sure I was being a tad hyperbolic. LOL.

@redwood66 No One is wishing for the demise of the US. We would like to see our elected officials stand up against Trump. We have a proven liar as our president. At this point only a fool would believe Trump hasn’t been aware of what Russia has done. What Russia did is Cyber warfare. They intentionally set out to get Trump elected and divide our country. Democrats have been saying we need to do everything possible to protect our democracy. Republicans have remained silent. Their silence yesterday was deafening.

Trump is choosing Putin over our own Justice Department. How is that good for our country? We are alienating our allies. How is that in our countries best interest?

Do you sincerely believe Trump didn’t pick Kavanaugh for the simple reason he believes you shouldn’t indict a sitting president?

When you know 3,000 children have been separated from their parents and have experienced severe emotional trauma, that will haunt them for years to come and you aren’t standing up against it, in my mind you are the problem. No one has said we don’t need to work together for solutions with immigration problems.

The Republican Party is at a crossroad. They need to decide who they are. The past 18 months they have shown themselves as having no moral character. Yesterday was yet another example of them having no integrity.

I voice my opinion and donate money to the ACLU and Planned Parenthood because I want my nieces to have reproductive rights. I want my nieces and nephews to live in a country where people are not judged by the color of their skin. Where we help people who need help. I call my senators and local reps weekly. It literally takes less than 10 minutes of my time to do so.

We are concerned for our country and are doing things we can to try to bring about change. Very, very little of what we have witnessed the past 18 months qualifies as normal. We ALL should be concerned.

All those things you have typed Callie are the same things I feel about the Dems. Kavanaugh is an excellent jurist period. He cannot do anything by his lonesome to save Trump if actual criminal offenses are found so that thought is irrational imo. His judicial record proves he follows the Constitution and written law.

Standing up against what? An agency that cannot deal with too many people coming here illegally and no place to house them? A law that was put in place by an Obama appointed judge during Obama's term that says kids cannot be held more than a very short period of time? And when recently asked to rescind it so kids could be kept with their parents while housed she said no? What dems really want is business as usual with releasing these people coming here illegally expecting them to return to some far in the future court date that they never show up for. No thank you. Turn them around at the border just like Obama did. Neither party has the balls to do what needs to be done on immigration. You are the problem in my eyes. People need to follow the process if they want to come here and wait in line.

As for alienating allies, previous presidents should have been more forceful on expectations of other countries paying their share of NATO and UN expenses. The US cannot continue to foot the bill.

Trump said he will be forceful with Putin on the recent indictments. That remains to be seen. I can wait to see and then we can decide.

:eek2:A foreign government attacked our country and the republican appointed republican head of the fbi is telling the country to set aside political party and that russia attacked us ALL when they stole half a million voters ssn and voter data and a partys emails. He is trying to do the right thing. He seems to be the sane man of honor.
Unbelievably though... The republican members of congress are not outraged at russia. There is no joint statement decrying the attack. They do not demand the 12 russian military operatives be brought to justice by trump at this supposed summit. They do not demand that trump make russia account for the crimes. They do not demand sanctions.
What do they do? They fly to russia on the 4th of july and when they come back they say people are too hard on russia. They want to vote to impeach the FBI director and demand the investigation end.
There is no witch hunt from the fbi. There are traitors in congress who are supporting and shielding a foreign nation and trump, to cover their dear leaders crimes and doing everything they can to stop the justice department from conducting an investigation into foreign espionage and US traitors.:eek2:
trump spent 7 decades lying and cheating people to serve his agenda. When he continued to do the same after the election I was not surprised. He has never been a man of honor. He has been a disgusting sleaze ball from as far back as we have records of him. He revels in his filth. He is proud of his ability to fraud small businesses over the years and boasts that he was the king of debt. It is who he is.

Sadly though, I thought the republican party was better than that. I thought they would stand and say no to things that were morally wrong. They have failed in their duty time and again and now they are openly trying to take away the few agents left who are trying to get to the truth. They want to make it all go away as if there is no accountability.
They are not patriots. At least not patriots of the USA.
Hopefully people will see past faux news and look at the truth staring them in the face.
Russia attacked the US and the congress and senators who are stopping the investigation are not friends of the country. They claim to support America First ... and they betray even that claim. They do not put the USA interest first but their own jobs and money.
Ok I am off to play some racquetball to relieve some stress. I am worried that by the time trump is impeached I am going to look like a bodybuilder

@redwood66 ((RED)) how are you girl? I've been deep into the throes of jaw pain, blah blah blah.. now have osteomyelitis of the jaw and am going to meet with an infectious disease specialist Monday, I dunno Red, dunno, I've been seeing an oral surgeon for 2 years, on antibiotics 4ever. Hopefully I will get some relief finally. enuf! of moi.

I have done lots of thought on this whole never ending story (not the movie!) and my take is that we all know what Trump is.. I don't think he really was personally involved in the Russians screwing over Clinton, I think Obama did what he could, but not enough I think. I think the job Mueller has done is stellar, as we are thisclose to finding out the whole story. My wish is that Trump would not appear to side with Putin, I think he does this because he wants Russia as a trading partner. I think Trump has no moral compass and really can't understand why people like me are aghast at his cozying up to Putin and complete disregard for our long term allies. While a minority of American's elected this bozo, he's ours till 2020 and maybe beyond. A minority of people wanted this blithering idiot, with uncontrollable lying and insults etc, why? Well because that is where we are at. So many Americans have deep seated anger at people of color for the freebies they think blacks received (and Mexicans etc).. the recession hurt hurt hurt rural America, many things that the states that went to Trump had percolating come to the forefront during the 16 election, there are extreme Trump voters but most are not, they are people that didn't/couldn't change, people who felt that being white and christian was being pushed aside for the new liberal order and their long held and cherished beliefs in God and country were being trampled. Hopefully in 2020 whichever party wins, they put a champion up, like Alice in Wonderland, someone who can ride and rope'em for the US and for us. Enough of my what my mom would call 'pontificating'.. hope all is well in your neck of the woods girl.

Good news in this article even if it is a little late. Thank you. I wonder if the overwhelming thought that Clinton would win played into the silence on what was going on before the election? If not then what was it? Hopefully the bipartisan report will give some answers.

Oh my goodness T. I feel so bad for you having all this trouble with your jaw. Please please please have something be good news on Monday! I am doing well and things are pretty good in these parts for now. DH has his first colonoscopy next month so I will be glad to have that over with after my mess.

I agree with a lot of what you say and have always thought Trump was something like a friend my parents had when I was young. He was so animated and knew everything about everything. Way over the top always. Trump did tap into something but since I don't like his manner at all it was a no for me. Not the kind of person I would want sitting in that office, but my preference (Cruz) was not someone you would approve of either. I don't know the kind of people you speak of who had "deep seated anger against people of color" and the thought is so foreign to me. I do think that politicians play on people's emotions for their benefit (both parties) to get elected which makes me so jaded about all of them. They are a necessary evil for our system. That would be great if we could get decent ones to run in 2020 but I have not seen any yet. Perhaps it all has to fall apart before it can get better.

I need to respond to this. There are other solutions than the two extremes you present here of either detain them all and therefore separate the children vs. release them all willy-nilly into our country. As just one example, the statistics I've seen for subsequent court appearance for those who are fitted with ankle monitoring bracelets prior to conditional release is better than 99%. The current administration has deliberately chosen the cruelest option, while stating publicly that they are doing so as a "deterrent" to people even attempting to come here, legally or illegally, all the while painting the situation as being black-and-white, either/or, when it is not. It is a complex problem - not black-and-white, not all-or-nothing. Black-and-white, all-or-nothing thinking is a cognitive dissonance that does not help solve problems.

And speaking of all-or-nothing thinking, in this statement you have in one brush-stroke painted all "dems" as all thinking and wanting the exact same extreme thing. As one of them, I strive to get the best information that I can from as unbiased sources as I can manage - meaning no Fox News OR MSNBC, etc. - and to think for myself. My husband is the same way. We know many others, of both parties, who are the same way. I have voted for candidates from both parties at various times in the past, based upon what I believe their qualifications and likely tendencies are in relation to what I perceive as the most critical needs at the time, as well as a long-term vision. I don't appreciate the broad-brush painting any more than I can imagine you would appreciate being painted by similar statements about Republicans or Trump voters. It's not helpful - it adds to the divide among our citizenship, discourages listening to others and considering the usefulness of what they are offering on an individual basis, and makes solving these complex issues more difficult. I respectfully submit that this particular behavior on your part adds greatly to "the problem in my eyes," to quote you.

I would welcome any new ideas to get people to show up at their court dates.

As to your second paragraph I was responding to the post who made the same charges with a broad brush. No two wrongs don't make a right. I am the problem according to her in her post and we have had skirmishes over political views in the past. Republicans are constantly painted with the broad brush on PS if you have been following, as the politics on here are full of all or nothing and black and white thinking which I have noted repeatedly in the past. Your observations of this single post of mine don't hold. People are individuals and are to be treated as such, when they are a positive force and when they are negative.

I am sorry you were offended by my broad brush that was intended as a response to someone else.

I can't relate to the "I don't get worked up by politics" argument. This isn't political. Trump is a frigging disaster- doesn't matter what party you represent. If you think he's doing a good job then it's not your "political view" you should reexamine.

It is nothing but politics. I am extremely happy about his SCOTUS picks and his view on doing more about the long overdue imbalance at NATO. Plenty agree with me. No president pleases everyone all the time and if they do then one is a sycophant like some Trump or Obama supporters probably are. If you think everything that Trump has done is a disaster then you are not viewing it with an open mind or you just don't like it. I never thought that way of Obama. Some of Trump's other policies only time will tell about how it all shakes out, trade, etc.

I appreciate your response, and I apologize if I inserted myself inappropriately in a dialogue not meant to include others. I agree that broad-brush, black-and-white thinking is not helpful from anyone, towards anyone. I know it can be hard to refrain from, and if I'm honest, I've been guilty of it many times throughout my life. (As well as other cognitive dissonances - hence me eventually needing so badly to learn to recognize them! :oops2:) I'm very grateful that you're open to new ideas. I'm so desperately hungry for that, for a rolling-up-of-sleeves, let's-sort-this-out, I-understand-I'll-need-to-compromise-some meeting of the minds amongst our politicians and average everyday persons alike. Perhaps it is naive or childish on my part, but it's wearing on my soul to see so much unkindness, so much emphasis on others as enemies, so much political strategizing for personal gain, all while those who are innocent and vulnerable continue to suffer in so many ways because we're not moving forward as a country and making real progress on so many problems.

His scotus pick was one that said that he disagrees with prosecuting a sitting president. There is also speculation that his predecessor retired because his son loaned Trump money, and basically gave up his seat so Trump could pick someone. I just don't see how someone could think that is a good thing.

He should not be picking anyone as it's an election year. Remember what Mitch McConnell said? Were you opposed to the republicans blocking Obama from appointing Merrick Garland?

The problem for me, aside from the fact that he has no dignity and has no respect for others, is that he lies so much. Yesterday he denied something he said in public only hours before and called it fake news. Forget him not having a moral compass, he does not appear to have any compass at all. I can’t think of him as president, not because it is repugnant, but because he is more like an insubstantial cartoon character than a man.

Yep. And his supporters DON'T CARE. If he SAYS "fake news" they actually believe it is fake news. I thought my parents were intelligent people. I have heard stuff come out of their mouth that is 100% FALSE. They deny things that Trump says on live television, stuff he tweets, stuff he does. They watch fox news and that's ALL they know now. ALL they care about and talk about is their frigging 401k.

It makes me sick. To the point where I don't want my children staying with them when I am not there. I cannot tolerate people who lie and who believe lies in the name of "politics."

People defending Trump are defending a LIAR, plain and simple. I just can't respect them.

Dear Republicans,

I need clarification on your definition of the words “hysterical” and “hysterics” because you seem to be using those words as weapons. I see no hysterical people here. However, I am tired of seeing people using these words as a means of control or put-down.

Furthermore, Liberals are the last people to dumb down this nation. This pissed me off more than many things said on this post. The pride in being uneducated is owned by the right. The right wing loves having an uneducated base because they are easier to control with propaganda and fear.

Liberals are always accused of being over educated elite.

As a staunch Obama lover, I’m disappointed that he and his administration played their cards this way. If I were to project or to predict a bit, I think he was so confident that Hillary would win that they didn’t need to turn the country upside down with the information that the other candidate was under investigation for colluding with the Russian government. He was wrong. He should have told all of us..no matter what that meant. Then we wouldn’t have this stupid, lying, unqualified, election stealing piece of shit for a president because maybe enough people in this country would have used this information to do something else with their vote other than use it for trump.

@soxfan I can’t count how many times I’ve asked my dad to please watch another news station other than Fox for just one day a week.

This is about SO much more than politics @redwood66 . If you have 11 minutes please google Don Lemon, Angela Rye, Alice Stewart, David Jolly July 11, 2018. David Jolly and Alice Stewart are Republicans and Alice Stewart was a Cruz supporter. There is an 11 minute clip on their discussion. It might make you see things a little differently.

If he fails then by extension it hurts the US. Bill Maher wants the economy to fail because it will hurt Trump and people agree with him.
It is the only reason that the Ds can win back the WH in 2020.

Do you sincerely believe Trump didn’t pick Kavanaugh for the simple reason he believes you shouldn’t indict a sitting president?
CC. :errrr: Did you really expected Trump to pick a liberal judge to replace Kennedy?

@House Cat I would agree with much of the US being under-educated and that is not for the lack of $ spent per student. Education has nothing to do with my comments of hubris or elitism. Though I don't think I used elite. Maybe you weren't referring to me? Anyway we have had the discussion quite awhile ago about the fundamental differences in how conservatives and liberals see things and what is important to them. I think it was @Matata who put up some good links about how the views differ. But that has been many months ago. I don't see liberals as bad people, far from it and love some of them here, but I acknowledge that they see things differently and have different priorities. I understand and accept it and admire their tenacity. The people (both parties) that bother me are the people who cannot fathom any view being appropriate but their own and cast aspersions on others. If you (collective) have your views and cannot respect another human being who may not then what the heck is all this for? I don't want to be in a bubble, if I did I sure would not post about politics here. You don't walk in my shoes and I don't walk in yours.

BTW as to hysterical, if I were putting memes and hate Clinton/Obama things up on PS all day for months on end I would think me hysterical. But that's just me. ;-) Maybe others need it as a coping mechanism and I can accept that. We already know that I don't get emotional about much of anything.

Trump selected the person who would vote to not prosecute a sitting president. There are no laws or rules Trump feels he needs to obey.

Why would anyone expect Trump to act like a decent human being at this point? He did the unthinkable when he separated little kids from their families with no plan in place to reunite them. Something tells me he will continue to do despicable things while the Republicans sit back and do nothing. Heck they have no problem leaving him alone with Putin. What could possibly go wrong???

I don't know the kind of people you speak of who had "deep seated anger against people of color" and the thought is so foreign to me.

Redwood66, I am sure you, and a fair number of Trump supporters, are not racists - and on some level, his stance/policies appealed to such Trump supporters a lot more such that they are willing to overlook or ignore other parts of his behavior.

The unfortunate thing is that with his being elected, others are paying the price for it, because his stance has emboldened other racists, the other types of supporters that Trump represents.

My partner is non-White. Since leading up to the election and till date, he has been facing a lot more racial harassment and discrimination e.g. Getting yelled at in parking lots of "GO BACK HOME, C***K" (racial slur), getting stared at and told "You don't belong in our country, ****** (racial slur)!", even though he's a born and bred American. This is in a major city on the West Coast, and not somewhere rural.

The small town I used to live in, was always somewhat tolerant of the small LGBT community. In the last 2 years however, things have changed. 1 of my friends's car was scratched with the words " F**K**G F**GGOT" across the entire side. Another guy who's a known LGBT advocate got jumped while the guys were yelling similar homophobic slurs. A few of my friends have since moved because they are fearful for their lives. The small town I knew and loved has become a cesspool of intolerance and hate.

I know not all Trump supporters condone such behavior - but by voting for such a man, there is a tacit "acceptance" or tolerance for the potential of such behavior happening. And unfortunately it is others who are paying the price.

The question is, would non racist Trump supporters stand up and say, enough is enough, we are not voting for this man because he is endangering the lives of others?
