Have you seen Kathy Griffin's idea of a joke.....

I apologize for my uncaring comment to you monnie. We do get to each other at times and I have had enough of being called a racist because it is the easy thing for some to do.

Accepted, with gratitude. And I understand.

Oh, believe me, I'm lying awake at night worrying about things that are very real and that apparently you think are just fine, so specifically what you think about a t-shirt isn't at the top of the list. But an atmosphere in which a president of the United States holds events that are basically hate rallies and encourages people to see a free press as an enemy? Yeah, I think that's pretty alarming. More alarming, actually, than the idiocy of a not very funny, washed-up comedian. (And being petty, what has she done to her face?)

And I actually don't think you're a racist, Red. I know we disagree on a lot of things, but I don't think that. My point was simply that I think that t-shirt is terrible for a whole lot of reasons. You think it's funny, so, in that instance, it makes it ok? Apparently someone somewhere thinks or thought the Trump severed head was funny, but you don't. Does that make it not equally ok? Are we arguing that a fake severed head is objectively worse than advocating a lynching?

Personally, I think they're essentially apples to apples. Equally repugnant but within the realm of free expression (which, by the way, is not to say that CNN doesn't have the perfect right to fire her).

Glad to hear it because I appreciate you actually saying it.

I will never understand the hubris of feeling it is one's right and duty to tell someone else how they should think, feel, or live. I don't know anyone IRL who would say the things that are said to others on this forum (or the internet). If I met someone like that I would never meet them again. I do not agree with most of you but do not and would never tell any of you what to think or that you must think like me and if you don't you are ignorant. It astounds me daily enough to wonder sometimes why I bother. I have a large set of balls says my DH but I mind my own business.

You mean Obama's neck, depicted being hung on a sign which says ROPE instead of HOPE?

You seem flustered by my opinion DF, do you need a safe space?
Don't you wish...:P If I can take on my radical left winger brother I can take any B.S. from you...:praise:. If my brother applied for a job at MSNBC today Chris Matthews would lose his job tomorrow.

Kathy Griffin to Hold Press Conference to Address Controversial Photo Shoot, ‘Bullying From Trump Family’

3b984c06befce5ab94364d84401c2907

Kathy Griffin and attorney Lisa Bloom have scheduled a press conference on Friday where Griffin will elaborate on her decision to do a photo shoot in which she held up a bloody prop that resembled Donald Trump’s severed head.

In a press announcement she posted on Twitter, Bloom said that she and Griffin will “explain the true motivation behind the image, and respond to the bullying from the Trump family she has endured.”

After she posted images from the photo shoot on Twitter on Tuesday, Griffin apologized, saying that she “went too far.”

Trump blasted Griffin for the image, saying that she should “be ashamed of herself,” and that his 11-year-old son, Barron, was “having a hard time with this. Sick!” Another one of Trump’s sons, Donald Trump Jr., also blasted Griffin, and challenged CNN for her role in its New Year’s Eve coverage.

CNN dropped Griffin from its New Year’s Eve telecasts on Wednesday. Griffin has not commented beyond an apology video she posted on social media.

The images were part of a photo shoot that Griffin did with photographer Tyler Shields.

Republicans have seized on the incident in an effort to tie Democratic candidates with her. The Congressional Leadership Fund, a Super PAC aligned with House Speaker Paul Ryan, began airing a spot called “Kathy” that characterizes her as a supporter of Jon Ossoff, a Democrat seeking an open seat in a Georgia special election later this month.

“It’s not funny. These angry liberals will go to any extreme to elect Jon Ossoff,” the ad says.

According to the Washington Examiner, Ossoff’s campaign issued a statement in which they called what Griffin did “despicable,” and called on his GOP opponent, Karen Handel, to “demand this ad be pulled before any more children have to see these disturbing images on TV.”

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) on Thursday said that he believes that “it would be best” for Griffin not to take part in a planned July 7 event in Beverly Hills, in which she was told hold a conversation with him to talk about his new book. “I understand why Minnesotans were upset by this, and I take that very seriously,” Franken said, according to Politico. Republicans had been seizing on plans for the event to attack Franken.

I will be the person to admit that many times, over many years, I found Kathy griffin to b hilarious: maybe my sense of humor is warped, but her imbd credits r so long, I surely can't b alone.

I thought the picture was purposeful art, as many controversial artIsts were and are: I thought the whole photoshoot was cool.

I also don't believe that Barron Trump ever heard a word about it or saw it, he is well-shielded, rightfully so. It's bizarre to me that trump brought it up, but I'm a former NYer so know his nonsense for years on end.

To look at it from a different perspective - since the elections, life in the US has been a bad joke. Politics is a pathetic joke, owing to "America's choice". I became so desensitized to it that when I read about Kathy Griffin, I just mentally shrugged my shoulders. In the times when Borowitz report, a satire, has turned into a grim reality, Kathy's antic is... irreverent, I think? But who really cares?

You absolutely are not alone and you're right on the nose about that child having no clue about that photo. Not a chance. I do think it's unfair that grandkids and young kids are brought into the fray though, and I have a problem with it--but in this case--HE brought them into it, and I despise that he's using them as propaganda tools. That is some seriously low blow, even for him.

The explanation behind the photo about the "blood from you know where" was perfect. And I love the photographer not backing down. My reaction was more "oh she's so going to get a visit from the secret service simply for what it is" than any sort of offense. I am offended more by the Obama effigies and lynching imagery because of the racial overtones and connotations it brings, and I find them to be more serious offenses not because of my political stance, but for what it means historically, and that it's going backwards. But for the most part my immediate thought was "here we go with the f'ing double standard...oh dammit, NYE is ruined now, what's CNN going to do instead of her and the silver fox?!"

I.LOVE.BOROWITZ. But oh god is he making more predictions at this point than jokes.

For somebody who claims to despise 99% of the posters here, and who is offended and HURT and martyred every day here, and who posts little to nothing in the jewelry portion of this forum, yet you're here on a daily basis...Must be getting something out of it...

I'm with ame. Any other poster who put up that "Rope-tree-assembly required" t-shirt would have *apologized* when other posters pointed out the offensive nature. Nope, instead its "Me-me-me-I-I-I-Everybody-Look-At-Me" rationales. This thread was started by the OP regarding a tasteless publicity stunt by Kathy Griffin, nothing about race, nothing about geographical location in the US, nothing about "balls."

Ame, or anyone else here, does not take direction from you about whom to ignore. Ame putting you on ignore is not going to cover up who you are and what you post. There are several posters here who continually support you by telling they like you and respect you, they are going to have to be 'enough' for you.

Don't worry, no one here is taking any bait, as clearly shown in multiple pictures.

I think it was disgusting for sure, although to be totally honest, I've never found her funny, so I guess I have to hold my hand up to never having gotten her sense of humour. It's annoying to me that it's allowing what remains of the Trump-supporting right to clutch their pearls loudly and often enough to attempt to drown out the real, very serious issues, so in that way it was even stupider than it looks on the surface.

I am, however, slightly enjoying the hypocrisy from the 'you libs can't take a joke' crew. Remember this, discussion, Red?

Red, warriors? More like mean girls unite.
Not a fan of rude comment t's, but it's a stretch to call roping random journalists racist. Not something I'd wear, but I won't lose sleep over it, just as I won't lose sleep over silly KG

lololol
Now lynching is called "roping"
Interesting.

T, I was quoting the t that was posted. What's your objection?

I think the image was horrible. Really, really horrible. So was the Obama one, of course. What is the world coming to? Nobody should be making gory models of others dying! No one! I don't know what Kathy Lette was thinking. Millions of people voted for Trump, and many of those who didn't (like me) also condemn what she did. Lette's image was particularly bad because ISIS does behead people on camera. I do not like Trump but this was a despicable thing to do on Lette's part and I condemn it in the strongest terms - the Obama one, too.

I said it many times here...neither side have a solution on health care. If we don't do anything about Obama care it'll die by itself b/c all the major providers is pulling out of ACA.

Too bad Kathy lost a job and apologized for her art that was inspired by Trump's own words of poor taste directed to Megyn Kelly. And I don't believe any of Trump's kids were harmed as a result. There really are more important things for Trump and Americans to focus on than comedians. Bold emphasis from original article.

Dear Trump: I’m Glad Kathy Griffin Scarred Your Children.

Dear Trump,

I thought you should know the first thought I had when you tweeted about your kids’ reaction to Kathy Griffin’s picture holding your (fake) severed head. I was disgusted. But not by what she did. I was disgusted by you. Over the day, I became even more disgusted by you. And as a citizen of this country, you need to know that.

This morning, I woke up to learn that at least 80 innocent men, women, and children were slaughtered, and hundreds more injured in Afghanistan.

It was one of the most vicious bomb attacks ever in Afghanistan. The kind that at a minimum should bring out the “thoughts and prayers” of anyone with a shred of decency. Did you tweet about it at all today? Nope. Twitter is, after all, your self-described official mouthpiece to give Americans “the real story.” So what was newsworthy, according to Trump?

Another dig at Hillary Clinton. Another promise to announce your decision on pulling out of the Paris climate accords. Another push to get the Senate to approve the House’s abysmal healthcare bill. Another nonsense claim that the Russia investigation is a witch hunt. Are you sensing a theme here? It’s all stuff we heard before.

You also got your staff to write up some fluff about how proud you were to meet yet another head of state, and a gratuitous recap of your first trip abroad. Yep, those sure were a lot more important than acknowledging real news. You do know 11 of those wounded in Afghanistan today are Americans, right? Or did you miss that part on Fox and Friends?

The proverbial straw on this camel’s back was that you had the audacity to invoke the suffering of your kids.

Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!

Did you worry at all about what your kids would think when you spouted off about grabbing women by the p*ssy? Every time you denigrated or objectified a woman? Every time you bullied or insulted someone. Every time you incited hate and violence. Your kids were often there to see it. That wasn’t sick?

Your hateful rhetoric is affecting all our kids. I have three of my own. The oldest is almost ten. What about them? My kids worry that they will be attacked for being Jewish. I never mentioned it or talked about it at home; they picked it up from other kids with the same worry at their school. Is that what kids should be talking about at school? But I have it easy. We are white and middle class.

What about the children who get harassed and attacked as the result of your anti-muslim rhetoric and policies? The Latino kids who get called rapists. The Muslim kids who are called terrorists. What does it say to the children in this country that it took you over a year to denounce all the violence that you helped spawn?

What about the kids who go to bed every night terrified that their mommy and daddy won’t be there the next morning, because of your anti-immigration policies?

What about the kids who will lose their health insurance under the new plan you are peddling? You know, the ones whose lives depend on it?

So I’m glad your kids are having a hard time dealing with Kathy Griffin’s tweet.

You’ve acted atrociously for years. And you’ve never shown one inkling of remorse for the collateral damage. But then one person puts out a tasteless image, and suddenly your shocked and your kids are hurting? Good. You should spend some more time experiencing what its like to be on the receiving end.

And you know what else? Kathy Griffin apologized. I’ve never heard an honest apology from you. A lot of rationalizations and excuses and blame and attacking, but never an honest, humble apology. So after a lifetime of stepping all over others, you want pity because you got the shoe? No way.

A little empathy would do you a world of good. Especially considering that you are the so-called leader of the free world. Which means the choices you make effect your kids as well as ours.
