I really like this diamond, but on its GIA it says a couple of things that concern me, mostly because I''m not sure what it entails. Under the comments section on the report it says: "Additional clouds are not shown"...and "surface graining not shown". The diamond is graded as SI2. I am worried that there''s a good chance it won''t be eye clean or very close to eye clean. How does everyone else approach those comments of things "not shown"?

you need to ask someone who can see it if it is eyeclean and if the inclusions negatively impact performance

No worries about the clouds and surface graining that are 'not shown.' See this thread.

In an SI2 the clouds - overall - may be an issue though (?) You will need to establish a very specific baseline for eye-clean and overall appearance with the vendor you're working with. Here is a conversation with one set of perspectives.

Thanks to both comments...and especially thanks for the links John.

John,

I saw your other posting with different graphs of GIA vs AGS, I tried to post a comment about how helpful those charts were.
My questions was regarding the GIA comments if online or is stores have AGS certifications available?
Sorry to barge in on this post?

Thanks. Actually the credit for putting the charts together (if these are the graphs you refer to) goes to Marty Haske, a member of the science community who contributes here. Marty didn't think one degree from MIT was enough - so he got two.

So, are you asking what retailers have diamonds supported by AGS documentation? If so, you'll find that many online retailers offer AGS and/or GIA graded diamonds due to the reputability of those labs.

There are brick & mortar retailers who offer AGS reports, but AGS-graded diamonds are far less common in commercial outlets than GIA. Depending on the store's inventory you can also find diamonds graded by labs which may be less strict. AGS is pretty demanding with regard to cut grading (rounds/princess) and it's logical for a manufacturer or seller to send the diamond to whatever lab which will give it the best possible paper for its attributes.

John,
You mentioned that the AGS is more demanding in their process, in addition to that aspect is there pricing or other reasons why AGS is not a prevalent as GIA(I know they have been around for a while).
Thanks!

There is. The AGS cut grading system allows fewer diamonds to qualify for their top grade. Logically, manufacturers producing diamonds which will not qualify for the top grade at AGS may choose to send their goods to other labs. The strict system means there are fewer diamonds graded by AGS. This doesn't mean non-AGS diamonds are not beautiful.
