Generally speaking if I have a budget of $2500-3000

Also not sure I am loving James Allen's settings and honestly have to spend more time looking at them. But is that going to be the most cost effective way is have them set it since I would be getting the stone from them? I think because they don't have real life photos its hard for me to tell what the settings look like?

I mean the tiffany 6 prong for $180 looks pretty bulky is it just there images?

In real life its not that bad. It is a budget setting. And I think is meant to be more temporary than anything. It doesn't feel very "heavy" but I think it would work. I have heard a rumor they will set it in a stuller setting too but you just can't return it.

I had that setting for a while. Honestly I was surprised how much I didn't mind it.

Actually it doesn't bother me either really. I mean the prongs stand out to me but not in a terrible way. Just thinking that I can wear it like this for a year (if I last that long) and reset it later. Rather than have the setting eat at my budget. Did you notice the knife edge pushing into the side of your finger? I'm so use to rounded bands that I can't feel at all... Also based on the pics do you think their 6 prong comfort fit band setting looks the same in terms of prongs just with a rounded band? It's double the price. Just wondering about comfort.

When you turned your ring into a five stone did you go back to James Allen?

When you wore it as a solitaire could you see color from the side in that setting?

I fully agree if you can stick it out for a few months to a year, I think this is the best option. Sure its no VC setting, but honestly the first thought I had when I opened my package from JA (after my jaw dropping from the sparkle) was that the setting seemed nicer than the price point. And I could live with it for a while. I did go back to James Allen when I did my 5 stone. I did it within 60 days so they took my setting back and refunded me. As well as paid for shipping. I really couldn't speak more highly about them in that regard. They weren't the cheapest quote I got for my 5 stone, but they weren't bad at 900$, and I got the side stone from them as well. My diamond was 2k and the setting another 2k so I got my whole look for just a bit over 4k. Which is why I think if you shop smart you could in the long run get exactly what you want. You could spend as much as you have on the center stone and in a few years get the 5 stone. And buying a lower color now will help that because sidesstone can be much cheaper st Ks than HS

I found it comfortable. Didn't really notice of. And for the price increase of the comfort for it wasn't worth it.

The color well helped by the 6 white gold prongs, and paired well with the colored gold shank. Do you have the opertunity to buy it and test your tolerance? Or go see one in store?

Thanks Niel. Those pics are lovely. It looks actually like it had some presence on your finger as a solitaire. That setting will probably be fine for me for sure.

Curious did you mean center was 2k and all the other diamonds (4) were 2k total plus $900 setting? I was trying to understand how your total cost was broken down. I could totally see myself doing something with this stone I buy down the line. If is a 3 or 5 stone or maybe another halo or I have no idea.

All together or was a little over 4k

2k diamond

Setting 900

Side diamonds 1100

Like I say side diamonds that are ks are much cheaper than high colors, which helped me keep the cost down. Now of course prices of diamonds and JA custom work could vary, vit I still was very haply with the cost of it and I think you could do something similar. Or a three stone, or whatever you want!

They were k! I'm rounding they could have been 1200 I guess. Don't want sound like I'm shaving some off. I'll get the exact numbers when I get home. But either way, buying the center stone a lower color makes all the side stones subsequently cheaper.

ETA! Yeah it was about 1300. So sorry dont want to lie! But still trying to get stones in a higher color would be a to do for that price

Back to your original question...a 5 stone packs a lot of bling and especially from a distance...I have 3 of these for my rhr's ...1 is 1 carat, 1 is 1.25 and 1 is .60......I also have a .91 solitaire oec which is prob equivalent to a .80 or .90 mrb....so what is the verdict?
I get tons of compliments on my oec...and I enjoy staring at it more than I do at my 5 stones..I get lost in the facets and appreciate the stone more than the 5 little stones....that's my take
