You two baddies should both buy yellow sapphires, @elle_71125 the heated one and @scouty the unheated one. Gary's cutting is so gorgeous.

I am perhaps going to purchase some pre-loved gemstones. If I get them, then I will pass on the color change sapphire. As always, I hesitated, so there is somebody ahead of me. If I don't get the pre-loved goodies, then I might be weaker.

My DH would be like didn’t you get enough sh*t last year??? (And I did get a lot last year)
@whitewave..I know nothing about gems other than they can have a window. I LOVE your three stone in your avatar..I would love to know how to buy a blue stone like yours. I’m thinking it’s a sapphire? It’s such a pretty blue..I don’t care for royal blue sapphires..Are there any gem vendors that are safe for someone like me whose is clueless?

@Mamabean Finewater Gems for one! And Gemfix, too. My third choice would be Mastercut Gems.

Thank you @voce! Are there any questions I should ask other than if it has a window? :kiss2:

Normally, you'd need to ask about treatments. I won't reiterate how much that can affect a sapphire's durability and value, you can read about that on the pinned thread in the Colored Stone forums. (link here) The vendors I mentioned above will disclose any and all treatments.

Make sure to ask for pictures of the sapphire in all lighting situations. Also consider the shape that you want. Also think about the size of the sapphire in mm in relation to how you want to set it. Rounds are easier to set than other shapes, which may require a more custom setting.

Thank you! I think I better read over at the Colored Stone forums. Thanks for the link!

I'm tempted to get the .97 ct sapphire. But I'm saving for my ideal blue! And I'm looking at a pad-ish saph from gemfix for a close price. It's just about my ideal orangy-pink not-pad. Sigh.

On the other hand, how about we all chip in for that sapphire voce wants so she won't be tempted, and I'll hold on to it for safe keeping :D? (jk, where's the laughing face? sigh.)

It’s a medium blue with violet undertones (heated) sapphire from Finewater gems :twirl: Thank you!

I was talking about the 2.05 ct unheated oval. Please buy it. It will be easy to set as it's almost a perfect 8x6.

Actually, I didn't get the preloved gems and decided to buy a spinel less than $400. There goes my tax refund. :(2

oooh which one???
I took a chance on the 1 ct red one from Pristine Gemstones, which was not an honorable thing to do since I was going through my Etsy favorites list to give Prisca red stone recommendations, but the low price and the pictures made me click the add to cart and check out, especially when I saw it was already in another's cart. I'll offer it to the PS community if I don't love it when I receive it, but I'm very much hoping I will love it.

It's not the ones I decided not to get, but the ones someone else had dibs on, so when she decided to get them, I couldn't. It's the Mahenge spinel lot ccuheartnurse had put on LT. Ridiculously good deal for $400.

Thanks @voce. Sorry you missed out on the spinel lot.
I just discovered FlowingGems on Etsy. Most of her gems come from jewelry that was sold for its gold content. I haven’t purchased anything yet though.

Eady, I'm beyond ecstatic that another PSer got it and assume that when you do set those gems, you'll share them with us?

My bar cut spess arrived! I also included a few pictures of it with the other Finewater bar cut I purchased in 2017! I am a fan of this cut, the ‘pixelation’ look is so cool, definitely a cut to be enjoyed as the gemstone moves. This spessartite reminds me a autumn leaves, a really nice red-orange color. I’m very happy with it especially for the price I paid!

That’s a beautiful gem! I love the color and the cut. You did really well with Gary’s celebration sale!
