Hi everyone! I finally have the chance and energy to share my HG upgrade that many of you helped with back in the winter. I'll share back story for this upgrade and if you're looking for the good stuff, scroll down :)

I felt like I rushed through this upgrade a little bit (I am instant gratification's greatest fan), but I'm so glad I did because this stone is stunning, and I can't believe it's mine. I first contemplated this upgrade when I finished my medical fellowship and got my first real job at the ripe age of 35. The year leading up to that though, was one of the hardest of my life. I had no idea how hard it was balancing my career and being a mom, and the impact of the pandemic had me questioning my career path and my worth in the healthcare system. Then, my father in law, who was just one of the kindest people I ever knew, was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. It felt like it came out of nowhere. Caring for someone you love so much versus caring for a patient in your hospital with the same condition are completely different in ways that words can't describe. He passed away in October, 14 months after his diagnosis. Looking back at the last year and half, and everything that happened, it's hard to believe we got through it.

I've always gone through life feeling like things that should be huge accomplishments are just a part of life. The need to celebrate my accomplishments never came as naturally to me as I think it should have (thanks childhood trauma). But this year felt really different. I busted my butt through training (college degree, masters degree, medical school, residency, and fellowship = 16 years), became a mom, was in the deepest trenches of taking care of a terminally ill loved one, and landed a job where I could actually achieve financial wellness and comfort. I think I finally started to see my worth and truly acknowledge my hard work. So I made the decision to go for the upgrade for me (with my husband's blessing, of course).

I never thought I would find my stone doing a simple search of "old mine diamond" on eBay. The diamond was initially set in a double halo in rose gold and was way over my budget. I thought the stone had so much potential that I wondered if they would sell it loose. I messaged the seller expecting them to say no, but they said yes (AHH!). Then came the hard part of tons of back and forth with messages, videos, and pictures; getting advice from members of this forum; and deciding whether it was my true HG. From the very wise folks here, I can now wholeheartedly agree that when you see something and your heart jumps, then trust your gut, and don't overthink it. I fell in love with the diamond as soon as I saw it, and kept going back to this one even while searching everywhere else for a better deal, or maybe something different that I could be happy with but maybe didn't feel like the one.

The seller was a dream to work with (maybe another sign that this stone was meant to be), and they sent it directly to David Klass, who patiently worked with me for 2 months to finalize the CADs. The final product is a beautiful milgrain bezel halo with a petal gallery motif in platinum with a mixed 14K RG and 18K YG shank with milgrain on the edges.

In every way this feels like a dream come true, and I'm going to enjoy the crap out of wearing this until I'm ready to pass it on to hopefully someone who would appreciate it as much as I do.

Finally, without further ado, here she is :)

Thank you for allowing me to share this wonderful treasure, and thanks to all the PSers who helped in my journey. I am oh so very grateful! :appl:

Huge Congratulations on achieving your career goals, 16 years in the making with a baby thrown in for good measure.
Now thats dedication and perseverance.
Hugs for the loss of your beloved father in law, cancer is such a beast and such an awful disease for all involved. I hope you are all healing and life is getting better.
As for the Sparkle bomb, raspberries to anyone who looks down on eBay, some of the best items and sellers can be found there.
What a breathtakingly stunning ring, one with so many emotions wrapped up in it. Thankfully (hopefully) the DSS will take a long long time to rear its demanding head with that beauty.

Oh it’s gorgeous! The stone and setting are just perfect! I was admiring on another thread you posted on and I’m so glad you did a write up!
So sorry to hear of your loss but many congratulations on you achievements it’s a well deserved upgrade!

I loved your story leading up to fInding your beautiful diamond. It’s absolutely gorgeous. The setting you chose to do with DK really lets her be the focus. The whole ring is breathtaking. eBay can be amazing if you are aware. I purchased many wonderful things on EBay that I still love. Truthfully I think many sellers on IG, etc..will pick up a deal there and mark them up. You had a keen eye!

Congratulations on all your achievements. You sure had a full plate. I think your upgrade took place at the perfect time to celebrate and mark the occasions!

I‘m so sorry about the loss of your father-in-law. Your husband must have been so grateful that you could take care of his father.

Gosh. It’s just so dreamy! I adore the setting too! So happy for you that you found your Holy Grail stone. It’s perfect!!
Sorry for your loss and congratulations on your accomplishments.

The faceting on that stone is beautiful. Thanks for sharing your story.

I'm sorry for your loss, but so happy for your achievements and finding the one! She is stunning and looks beautiful on you!

Thank you for sharing your story with us. I'm so sorry for the loss of your FIL. Your ring is a beautiful symbol of your perseverance. She's a stunner and I hope you enjoy her in good health!

Congrats on all of your accomplishments - they needed to be celebrated!

Your ring is beautiful and I hope that you enjoy it for many years to come. Finding the holy grail is no easy feat either but to the victor go the spoils!

Congratulations and condolences. Finding your HG is a huge accomplishment in itself much less everything else you've been through. The stone is spectacular, and I love the setting as well. I hope it gives you much joy in the coming years!

Amazing! Just beautiful in it's new home! I'm so sorry to hear about your loss too.

Absolutely stunning!!! Enjoy every moment of wearing it.

I have to say patience is not my strong suit and I was reading your engaging story but rushed to look when I saw the first picture appearing ( turned out was the "before") and I was like hmmm..mmm...kay...(to each his own and all that)
But then I saw what you did with this glorious stone! Wow what a transformation! Before it honestly looked like that stone was struggling to breath. Your design puts it elegantly on center stage. Absolutely divine.
I have to tell you it also took me 2 months to finalize my e-ring with DK- so you are not alone in that :)

I really enjoyed reading your back story and what perseverance to go through all that studying and training. You deserved this well earned HG and she's a firecracker at that. I'm sorry that you lost your FIL in the process. Maybe you could name this ring after him and to remember him by it.

Huge congrats on all your accomplishments, @sweetpea&babycorn!!! Everything that you’ve done, so far, are not easy feats but I must say, to me, caring for and loving your FIL and your family as much as you is your greatest. I’m deeply sorry for your loss. I’m quite certain your FIL knew/knows how loved and lucky he is to have such an amazing DIL. And I remember you mentioning in one of your posts that you have a 4-yr old son whom you love so very much. He is very lucky to have such a caring mom! On that note, wishing you an advanced Happy Mother’s Day! And thanks so very much for sharing your story, @sweetpea&babycorn …enjoy this glorious, glorious stone/ring in health and happiness❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for sharing your story here. It’s a sweet look behind the scenes and that is what makes something so special. Your ring is AMAZING!! Congratulations on all the years of hard work. Here’s a toast to you!!

Superb! It looks just superb. Congratulations!

I love it

Congratulations on your accomplishments, and also condolences for your father in law.

Your ring is simply elegant perfection. Seriously takes my breath away, in a not fussy way, if that makes any sense.

I loved reading your story behind it. You'll look down at it with pride in your accomplishments, maybe memories of your father in law, love of your spouse. Wear it in good health!

Fabulous, huge, and I love the setting! It looks perfect on your hand.

So sorry about your FIL.

Nice work all around! Gorgeous ring! Don't wear it to your annual review. ;)2
