Thanks, ladies!!! The timing is good because after I go to Vegas and see all the really big rocks, this baby is probably going to be small in comparison...so that may help my perspective!

It really is a gorgeous stone. Pictures just never do justice to diamonds.

Haha somehow I very much doubt that anyone could think that beauty is small!!!! it is stunning DS and looks amazing on your finger! I can't wait to see in person! I hope you are around a finger size 6 so I can try it on!!!!!!

OMG, I'm green with envy!

I will have to live vicariously through you, at least for now :naughty:

It's amazing, truly spectacular! Love the setting, love the size, love how perfect it is for you!

It is a 5 3/4, so hopefully it will work! That means Venice will definitely work on my finger! :appl:

Dear DS2006,

Before I wore jewelry or had diamonds, our friends had diamonds and big ones. I never envied them or compared myself to them ...I was simply happy for them that they could afford to buy what made them happy. I enjoyed looking at their diamonds. I know everyone does not think alike, but I sure would NOT wear my 2c diamond because the person I was having lunch with had a smaller diamond in her ring. I just really don't think that others put the emphasis on diamonds that PSr's do.

I am sure your friend would have loved to see your new diamond ring and would have been very happy for you. Maybe inspiration for her to upgrade to an AVR...who knows. I just would never worry or care in the least what others thought of my jewelry. I wore no jewelry at all for over 20 years and now I am an old cut freak thanks to PS.

Wear your ring and enjoy it and quit worrying...you can't please everyone, so you need to please yourself, and I doubt seriously if .2mm (?) size difference in the two stones will make a difference on your finger to change your perspective on when you wear your ring and when you don't.

(Not safe to keep your ring in your purse either...easy for someone to snatch a purse....yikes!)

I'm glad you decided on the 2.29 because it showed the faceting of the AVR better, which we all love.

The ring looks amazing on your hand...wear it everywhere and quit worrying what others will think. Do you really care if someone is so small minded that they don't like you cause you have a beautiful large diamond on your finger? If they think like that then they are not really your true friend.

JMO and had to express. Hope this helps.

 Wow! The flowery pattern is mesmerizing. how i wish i could see an AVR in person! I would love to see how it performs under natural daylight. Please please please shoot a video.

When I jumped from 1.2 to 2.3 i felt really self conscious about the size and it took me several weeks to finally feel comfortable wearing it. So do give this 'little' darling some time. It will start shrinking around day 21. :rodent:

Ariel, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts! I just wanted to make clear that it has nothing to do with what anyone might think of me. It is more that I don't want to flaunt that I may have more materially than someone who could never afford such things. I wouldn't let one or two people stop me from getting something I want, either, because I can always wear another band that day. I really just have to figure out what size I am most comfortable wearing. :)) (I don't normally put jewelry in my purse...it was just that I decided when I got to the restaurant that I didn't want to wear it!)

Thanks, greenbling! It is good to know you adjusted to an upgrade to a similar size stone! I'll see if I can do a video after the Las Vegas trip and another 4 day trip the following week!

DF....I don't know about that yet! It would be hard to beat this one, but I am taking my time deciding!

It is a gorgeous diamond, and I think that Vatche solitaire mount showcases it very well. I have a .8ct non-ideal diamond from a pawn shop for wearing around this town, because nobody wears big diamonds in a small town. But I sure won't ever sell or return my larger diamonds just because there are some places on Earth where it would be too much ring. I say keep it. You already sold the H&A, and the smaller AVR didn't have the faceting. Big is big, and most people looking at your hand could tell 1ct from maybe 1.5ct or 2ct. But downsizing to that smaller AVR that you considered is only something that you will notice. To others not of PS or the jewelry trade, the size difference between those two AVRs is probably not even noticeable.

YAY!! You got the ring back on your finger!!! And it looks perfect, looks just like mine!!! :Up_to_something: :Up_to_something:

I too stare into the pattern of the AVR and get lost in the beauty every now and then( I used to do that every 5 min)....., hopefully you feel comfortable wearing it! I really don't think people look too much, unless they are like us PSers, who love the diamond/jewelry or the people who were jealous of you to begin with.....with or without your diamond ring. All my friends wear the ring with less than 1 carat, and they never made much of a comment on my ring, except a few who admired the rarity of AVR. I also get tons of compliments for my RHR (5crt eternity band), but rarely get any comments for my ER by strangers.....maybe they think it is fake? since I usually are casually dressed!

Anyways, I'm glad to pop in today!! Got to see your beautiful ring!!! :appl:

Beautiful. Keep the one that gives you more pleasure and you love more. If you gave the 2.29 back would you regret it ? I like seeing the larger facets giving off rainbows of colour, so my choice would be the bigger stone.

It looks great!

I said it before, but dropping to the 2.12 won't really make any difference in the flaunting department -- maybe in your mind, but that would only be crazy talk :twirl: . The only reason to switch is to save some money, and I don't think that is worth it in this particular case. It's not like the other option is like $7k or something

One ring to rule them all, baby.

Oh. And always remember the sad truth: No one else looks at or thinks about YOU nearly as much as YOU!

Hahaha! SO true about the 2.12 not making a difference in the flaunting dept!

I will definitely take this advice seriously!

Thanks TC and chamois! I do think everyone is right that no one else would even tell any difference between the 2.29 and 2.12. I guess I just need to decide based on the money!

I love it!!! I think the size is fantastic. BUT I do see your daughters point about the setting! Maybe something antique style with engraving? I dunno. But I see her point about it being maybe too modern with an old cut style.

I think it looks fantastic on your hand though!

I second Dreamers sentiments DS! That is a stunning diamond, it makes you happy and trading for the slightly smaller size will not make a difference in how it appears IRL to other people. The only reason I would consider exchanging it, if I were you, would be price. In the scheme of things I think the price difference is inconsequential. Enjoy the beauty in the bright lights of Vegas!!!!!

Wow DS!! Your diamond is amazing and will be the perfect size in a few days when your mind starts playing diamond shrinkage tricks on you!! You wear it well. Enjoy it because it's gorgeous. I'm already ready to upgrade my 1.25. My DD says he thinks I can get by with a 1.50! We are going on vacation in New York in 2 weeks and are going to GOG so who knows... ;)

Not just money what you really want. You love the cute the faucets and everything about these aVR so will be sad to see this lucscious 2.29 go back to the store . I think so.. I hope vegas is terrific

I just saw the pictures - oh DS it is incredible!!!

I completely understand your dilemma and think it is wonderful that you are sensitive to such issues. I know you'll make the right choice for you and either way you have a world class engagement ring in the end! Pretty fabulous choice to get to make!

Can't wait for more pictures!

Ame...thanks! I am thinking a lot about another setting!

Thanks woofmama, Heidi, and rosebloom!

Trasid...lucky you to get to go to GOG! Thank you!

Okay , as I expected, this diamond no longer seems large after spending a weekend in the PS world!!! Once I am back to reality, I am just going to hope I can rock THIS diamond!!!!!!!

Hi DS - welcome back! Sounds like everyone had a wonderful time!

Did you get any more pictures of your new ring?

Good Lord, I've just read this entire thread, instead of cooking dinner. Mr Smith is practically fainting.

Full disclosure: I have never seen an OEC, an AVR or an AVC so I can't imagine what they look like. But I am familiar with the sheer desire of beautiful jewellery and with the internal cost battles. If you really want to keep this 2.29 then you will never forget about it, even if you send it back and get the 2.12. Since you can afford, it, keep it, love it, and enjoy it!

We only get one life. And there are sadnesses in life. Diamonds are one of nature's gifts which helps make up for those! They are just pure, unadulterated pleasure - one of the best parts of life, if you ask me. If this ring makes your heart sing, it's ABSOLUTELY worth it!

Smith1942, those are such sweet words. :saint: +1. I am still not trying to push either way, and I haven't see any August Vintage anything either, but I bet they are both great!

woooowooooo.......

Thanks, MGR! I so wish you had been there. We'll try another year! It was great fun!

No new pics...I was WAY too busy looking at other bling over the weekend! I think my ring did represent itself well in the sea of bling, though!

I really think they are sooo close to the same..one just a bit bigger and has the mental advantage of a special cutter.

What is going on with your ring????

Sounds like everyone had a great time! We've all felt that way too with the local get togethers that we've had so I can imagine getting to meet so many is great fun!

I'm sure your ring definitely held its own - now on to the final decision!
