I can''t see that Hillary supporters could POSSIBLY vote for McCain/Palin. I don''t think that is the primary strategy. The primary strategy is to get someone who is hopefully clean and fresh and not a Washington insider. And most important of all, she attracts the conservatives that were not so enamoured with McCain.Date: 8/29/2008 8:53:58 PM

I asked my Husband what he thought of Mccain''s choice, he said Obama just won the election. I know what I thought about it but wanted to hear what he had to say. He''s away, so this was over the phone. He said, he chose her to get the Hillary votes. I said bingo, I agree. I have to learn more about Palin. My dad was head of the Republican committee in Philadelphia years ago, he thinks his choice is spot on. I dunno. I have to find out who she is and what she stands for, but am thinking Mccain, is toast. Hubby and kids are voting for Mccain. I am a republican, but will most likely vote for Obama. It''s going to be very interesting for sure!!!![]()

Yeah I understand that, but I think he really must be counting on those pissed off Hillary supporters. That's quite a bet to make. I hope I like her. And everyone can be pissy at me here but I'm going to say it: That way, when McCain dies in office (assuming he's elected), we can have a great female President. I'm on vacation starting tomorrow without internet!!I wish I could spend the week researching her.![]()
I don't think so either, but many Hillary suporter's said they would vote for Mccain once she was out of the race. She had 18 million votes, and Mccain is hoping for 5 million of them in November. I look forward to the debates.Date: 8/29/2008 9:12:19 PM

I think the opposite of your hubby, Lisa. I think McCain didn't have any chance before today. This choice will keep him in the running.

I can honestly say if McCain had not chose her as a running mate I might have voted for him. I honestly can not stand Sarah Palin politics.
The top 11 things you should know about Sarah Palin:

5) She has no federal or international experience & has only been mayor of a small town and a beauty queen!
6) She believes global warming is a farce and is opposed to listing the polar bear as an endangered species
7) She believes creationism should be taught in public schools
She supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and anywhere else big oil wants

eta- I am too tired to do any reading on her yet, but just glancing through this thread and noting that she may be ultra conservative is already a bit off-putting. We shall see though!

Miracles, I''m picking up where you left off, with my own glass of red.
Watching Larry King - they just showed video of her shooting an assault rifle. Dukakis anyone?
They''re interviewing her friends/associates in Alaska.
Did you see the clip where she said that she stood up to Big Oil? D just said, "What did she do - withhold s*x from her husband?" (her hubby works for BP)Date: 8/29/2008 10:18:00 PM

We were watching that too, now we''re watching Fox. People are singing her praises. And of course, bringing up the disappointment of Hillary supporters.

Witty guy. lol!
What is more frightening to me is the inaccuracy of some of the statements. #5 is an example....only a mayor and beauty queen? I believe she is the governor of the state of Alaska! And um, her hubby is a blue collar worker in the oil fields, not exactly a big oil man! I imagine quite a number of Alaskans are employed in some aspect of the oil industry.Date: 8/29/2008 9:37:25 PM

I guess higher taxes is a small price to pay as compared to the alternative.

I actually saw the website you copied and pasted your 11 "facts" from and it is far from a reputable source of information, as it is just a personal website run by "grizzly" individuals who clearly hate Sarah Palin - hardly an independent news source. You should probably paste the link to that website, however, instead of citing the different ones you posted, since you copied/pasted it verbatim.Date: 8/29/2008 7:47:59 PM

I can honestly say if McCain had not chose her as a running mate I might have voted for him. I honestly can not stand Sarah Palin politics.
The top 11 things you should know about Sarah Palin:
1) She is presently under investigation in Alaska for abuse of powerShe has welcomed questions into these allegations, making subpoenas unnecessary...I find that to be a good sign but will be interested in the outcome. I know that her ex-brother-in-law was a state trooper who tasered an 11 year old boy (he requested it, but talk about abuse of power!) and threatened to kill her dad. Chances are he's not that great of a trooper...
2) She strongly supports big oil (her husband even works for an oil company)
Her husband works for BP, but no one has stated in what capacity besides "in an oil field." I would like more information if anyone has it. The site you cited says that he works as a fisherman during the summers, so I doubt he is on the executive board. Many people work for BP in different capacities; it doesn't automatically mean that they strongly supports big oil. The site also says that she helped to pass a tax increase on oil profits...that doesn't exactly mean "strongly supports" to me, either. I am actually not opposed to drilling in our own country; we pay other countries for drilling in theirs, so why not our own?
3) She stands for everything that Hillary Clinton stood against
Agreed...and a reason why I like her and I don't think it was a ploy for the staunch Hillary supporters (i.e. the ones who were voting for her for a reason other than her gender).
4) She is adamantly opposed to reproductive rights for women
If you only include abortion in your definition of "reproductive rights." I haven't read anything about her position on birth control, etc., so more information here would also be appreciated. As for her pro-life stance, I have no problem with it and I think it actually strengthens McCain's stance among most Republicans (and a welcome contrast to Biden's views on the matter).
5) She has no federal or international experience & has only been mayor of a small town and a beauty queen!
She is also the governor, of course.
6) She believes global warming is a farce and is opposed to listing the polar bear as an endangered species
Echo joflier's post.
7) She believes creationism should be taught in public schools
Also, no problem for me. I believe children should be taught ALL theories of how we came to be and creationism can be taught in a SCIENTIFIC, as opposed to religious, way. Most children in the U.S. have heard of "God" in one form or another by the time they are in school and I think creationism can be taught but still leave the existence of "God" up to the students, much like they feel free to believe in evolution or not. She supports the teaching of BOTH theories, not just creationism.
Echo diamondfan's post.
She supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and anywhere else big oil wants
9) She supports Pebble Mine which will destroy the richest salmon run in the world
I don't know enough about Pebble Mine to evalute the arguments from both sides, as this statement is speculation which has been refuted by some claiming that if the mine is regulated as planned it will have minimal impacts on the fisheries.
10) She supports aerial shooting of bears and wolves in Alaska
Don't know much about this...will need more research...so far I have found this to be the "other side of the story": Palin "has defended the aerial shooting as necessary to build up moose and caribou herds in parts of Alaska to help improve local food supplies." Wall Street Journal Profile
11) She is pro-war
Again, seems like rhetoric from the website of Palin haters, but I would love to hear the reasons for these statements, as the website where you found this list did not list the reasons.

Nowhere in my post did I say they weren't true...I said it was from a website run by individuals who hate Sarah Palin and the OP miscited her sources. The website quoted actually doesn't provide much information about its sources for their list, so who knows if they are true or not. I simply commented on my own opinions on Palin's viewpoints and the "other side of the story" gathered from my own research. I encourage responsible reporting and citing of sources to ensure an accurate and open dialogue here. The post as written presented the information as unbiased facts, which they are not.Date: 8/30/2008 12:41:39 AM

I have to say, I think he made a wise choice. It was unexpected; I think the Dems were not at all prepared for this; and it certainly makes things a bit more interesting going into the last few months of what has seemed ''an eternity'' of an election year.Date: 8/29/2008 9:06:24 PM

I just wanted to say that I think Sarah Palin was a brilliant choice! She comes from a middle class background. Her approval rating in her home state is around 75-80%! Abuse of power??? Um, I think she has turned in those in her own party for ethics violations! She has integrity and a lot of class as far as I am concerned.
If I had to choose whether to support terrorists by sending them money for oil, or drilling in Alaska where WE HAVE ENOUGH OIL FOR OUR NEEDS...you can better believe I support Sarah Palin''s desire to drill for oil there!
I am not wild about McCain and wasn''t inclined to vote for him...but I really like what I see of Sarah Palin and I will likely vote for her!![]()
