I find it offensive because it’s disrespectful.

I object to it for two reasons; first, as Missy mentioned. It is disrespectful, and second, it is often applied to women who are not Moms but simply middle aged, and I object to the assumption which is implied by the label that all middle aged women are moms and all moms are middle aged.

Finally, it is a transactional throw-away statement which relegates the woman to the receptive rather than actively involved in the scenario. It’s akin to saying ‘ice cream I’d like to eat’ — the ice cream has no agency in the activity.

Amended to add that there is no such animal as ‘ice cream I would NOT like to eat’

Offensive. On many different levels.
It is something that Howard Stern (or Trump) would say and is demeaning, objectifying and insulting to women in general, mothers in particular.
I would ask anyone who finds it amusing if it would be funny if it was applied to their mother, or wife, or sister.

I play Fortnite (a video game) a lot, to begin with my son put my username, handle or ID as ArkieB (Mum). In about 1 out of 10 games I had sleazy random guys saying to me in game I bet you are a MILF and a heap of other stuff I will not repeat.

I don't find the term MILF flattering, in fact mostly when guys were saying that to me during games, it was used in a highly passive aggressive misogynistic way.

So I had my son remove the (Mum) and now I just play under ArkieB. I usually play with the microphone turned off because it's enough of a mic drop that I'm a gamer and a woman, let alone a middle aged woman with kids that can virtually kick the butt of some kids, teens, and grown men half my age. I play the game in a virtual world, for fun and for "me" time, I don't play it to be judged on my gender or my life circumstances.

Can someone please tell me what these letters mean?
Am I so completely out of the loop?
I tried to look it up, but got links to vulgar videos.

It's one arrow in an arsenal that attempts to paint women as objects rather than humans.

Everything @PreRaphaelite said. I am no prude but yes that is offensive. There's an acronym appropriate for people who use it (assuming it's mostly men)
MILP-Men I'd like to punch...preferably way down south...wearing my biggest clunker ring...but really I would never defile my rings that way.

Context is everything, so I'm changing my response to ... Yes, unless both parties are willing and consenting adults.

Lots of men are into wanting a, or being considered to be a, "daddy" as an object of sexual fantasy.
Likely some women look at men and see a DILF.
For these folks it can be harmless, mutually-satisfying roll playing.
Nothing wrong with that ... people just vary. ;))

BTW, isn't slut-shaming finally considered to be a shameful thing now?
IOW, this is squishy ground we are treading.

Of course if the daddy-object is offended and not consenting then it is offensive to impose that label onto him.
But holding sexual fantasies, is a normal and largely a private thing - and not acted upon.

Addendum to my post #23 above:

All that said, is harmful sexual objectification of women more of a problem in our society than is the objectification of men?
Absolutely!

Yes in those terms I agree with you, but when random strangers start saying I bet you're a MILF and I know how I'd like to @#* you while I'm gaming (I've had that happen dozens of times before I figured out I could get my son to remove the "Mum" part of my Fortnite persona), often in a semi to fully aggressive testosterone filled way it becomes less of any kind of compliment or fantasy and more of a just that, an aggressive, misogynistic way for a man to speak to a woman.

The only occasions I've heard that term is I've been walking along with a friend outside a shopping centre, some young guys roll down their windows and start cat calling and yelling out MILFs at the top of their voices.

And online while gaming and it's ALWAYS been accompanied by a loud rude sexually aggressive dialogue....

Arkieb1, in the context you describe, I absolutely agree the term's use was deeply offensive!!!!!

The OP did not include any context, yet the pile on of unanimous agreement was swift, including from myself.

Not anymore as I am now in the GILF territory! :oops2:

Joking aside, no, as I am childless by choice, so none of these terms apply to me.

More stupid than offensive.

(I might be slightly less upset with it because it brings to mind “the Graduate”, an old book and a movie, and they were both well-made).
