Straight off the top of my head @SandyinAnaheim, the election affects me because my son is a US citizen, it affects the rate of exchange, which affects the cost of our visits to the US, and those of the thousands of tourists who visit every year and spend money in ‘your’ country, and ultimately this affects our finances because we’re planning to move to the US to be near our son.
I think this is probably getting away from @SandyinAnaheim's intent, but, as an American living in the UK, I think it's a big mistake to underestimate how important American politics are--both in terms of the immediate and knock-on effects--all over the world. I know @Austina, you're affected on a very personal level, but I think even without that kind of connection, there is a lot of wisdom and insight to be had from people observing systems from the outside. I actually believe the world would be a better place if everyone lived outside their home country for a few years.
I also agree that in Europe (including the UK in that for the moment) there is much more international news as a rule, but I think a lot of that comes down to differences in media structures.
