Do we as members have the right to police PS?

I think the difference between a jewellery board in Monaco and US politics, is that the jewellery board doesn’t affect other countries, whereas politics in the US does affect other countries. So I respectfully disagree that any non US citizen doesn’t have a horse in the race.

I can only speak of my own experience, but watching news programmes in the US compared to those in the UK, we seem to have a lot more international news on a daily basis than I’ve seen in the US (obviously I may not have been watching the right US channels to base this opinion on?).

I am not American (wish i was) but i care deeply for the people of the United States regardless of who they vote for
Most of our international news is American, what their leaders do and say often effects us all

Completely unrelated but the funny thing with the news is news from the US is usally reported by a British reporter and news out of the UK by an American one

What i enjoy about political forums is one comes across a lot of stuff that i wouldn't normally hear about just watching tv

@SandyinAnaheim I’d like to compliment your bold letter skills.
Also nice name calling...the exact kinds of things that get posts reported. Sometimes it is prudent to self evaluate and see if we are part of the problem.

If you would please read my posts again I have gone out of my way to address my comments about posters who are properly using the report button...as they are encouraged to do in the rules. I am not assuming that all reporters do so.

The rules are there because they help frame the kind of content and atmosphere the owner wants on their forum. There are forums with much looser rules, some have very few and posters can be mean, vile, vulgar or whatever. Maybe you’d like to find one of those for political discussion? But clearly, this is not one of those forums.

I will leave it at that since you now seem angry with me as well.I acknowledge that my impression may be incorrect so there is no need to resort to more creative bolding In order to correct me.

Except for spams, If I were the admin I would just ignore all other reports.

I'm unsure if you're purposely misunderstanding what I'm trying to convey...I don't have a problem in the least with people from anywhere opining on anything, including American politics. If I did, it would have become apparent way before now. I just don't think non-Americans should be opining on whether Americans should or should not be allowed to have political discussions on American politics on an American board. Do you comprehend the distinction???

Further, as a non-US citizen, how were you or any of our other non-American posters affected by our last election? I can venture a guess. Did your taxes go up or down? Did you your health insurance coverage change? How about your social security, was that imperiled? Was your educational system impacted by our election? How about your country, was it made the laughingstock of the planet? Where is your horse, exactly?

@Bayek makes an excellent point above regarding admins' leanings....I was thinking the same, and more, but refrained from commenting because some snowflake might report me and I don't relish the thought of an admonishment from admin when I've never had one.

It is a sad fact that we receive VERY little international news other than major disasters. And what we DO get is most often false, biased, sanitized and altered. I learned this the hard way after the US' invasion of Panama in 1989 to get Noriega. What the US reported and showed on TV was one thing, but I got to watch actual video of the bombings as reported in various Caribbean countries, and they were NOTHING alike.

At PS there are no second class members based on location, they all have the same privileges regardless of where they live.
That is fundamental and what makes this place great, you can join and enjoy the same privileges as anyone else no matter who or where you are as long as you play by the rules.
Indeed anyone anywhere has the same privileges to post an opinion on having political discussion or not as anyone else.
They are not rights they are privileges granted by the board administrators and rules.
Living in the USA does not grant anyone enhanced privileges on the board over someone living elsewhere.

Aren't snitches considered "second class members"? You're entitled to your opinion as it IS a free country, but being a snitch sorta diminishes that.

Straight off the top of my head @SandyinAnaheim, the election affects me because my son is a US citizen, it affects the rate of exchange, which affects the cost of our visits to the US, and those of the thousands of tourists who visit every year and spend money in ‘your’ country, and ultimately this affects our finances because we’re planning to move to the US to be near our son.

As far as I know, only the owner and moderator have the right to "police" their forum. So unless the owner/mod say otherwise, all members are free to report posts at their own discretion, participate in threads as they choose, and engage in any other regular forum activities.

Turns out the post that upset me yesterday was allegedly a NIDA post (over on a show me your silver thread) :lol-2:

Yes, when I started to read that new thread I thought it smelt like a rat too!

It was an odd way to introduce one's self ....
There was just a snide little comment on the silver thread that just came off as odd and it just didn't feel good - "i only have diamonds babe" - or something similar - i do not like one upmanship
While this is primarly a board for diamonds i enjoy all the bling that people choose to shear not just the jewlery that costs the most $$$
The post just didnt look like anyone i could think of around here would say - i wanted to say 'that's not the way to make freinds' but i gave her the benefit of the doubt for 30 seconds thinking maybe i had misinterpreted the tone of her post as often happenings auite innocently in an international online community

I disagree, there are many 2nd class posters on this forum it seems.

As to non Americans posting about American politics that's fine with me as everyone should be heard, we can move on to the next post if we don't like it. @SandyinAnaheim is a straight shooter - and says what she thinks, I find that fair and I think @Austina's reply was great, I do think Sandy has a point in that many Europeans are not as affected by our politics as they are their own country's. Live and learn is a motto I live by, I make choices, right or wrong they are mine. Everyone has an opinion on right and wrong.

Most importantly, I look forward totally to Austina coming here , the USA, Britain's loss is my gain!... she will be a GREAT asset to America as her son is. We don't always know the background of a poster, and exposing one's self here can be very very hurtful, it happened to me and it took months for me to even really participate again. Don't remember you being there and defending me Karl but I would have loved that, maybe you didn't even read that thread.

Is the "Show Me Your Silver" thread to which you refer the "Show Me Your Tiffany Silver Jewelry"? I like threads on silver and gold and I don't know where to look for this silver thread.

You may call me a snitch if you wish, but at least I admit it unlike dozens of others.

Thank you, @Austina. I found the thread and I am sure you are right. (It had not occurred to me to look under "fashion jewelry" for silver.) I appreciate your looking for me. Can you also tell me what the acronym "NIDA" stands for?

@AGBF
"Nida" was a poster a while ago who was pulling large diamond pieces from the internet and claiming to own them.
It appears she may be back.

Thank you, @stracci. I assumed that NIDA was an acronym with which I was unfamiliar because I do not text. It never occurred to me that it might be a person!

Yeah, that's because you're a big, independent man who solves your own problems, rather than waiting for other people to help you with them!

@Daisys and Diamonds yup, that is a very catty/snide remark, and I don't like it either.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and all that, and big does not automatically means beautiful - just look at some of the monstrosities in the celeb bling thread!

True enough. One main thing for me about any controversial posts/threads, I think either you or @OboeGal said they thought PS was a place where we were family, I felt the same way, I felt safe here in that I thought different POVs would be welcomed, but it seems as though in the background unless it was groupthink then 'not allowed'. I think about 'do I think I am entitled'.. yes I did, I felt I did my best to buy from vendors here, I felt like I supported PS with sponsors... so in that way I did think I was entitled to be here and engage, I learned a good lesson when I was given a 'time out' for a week for 'racism' now I wanted to fight that, because I dare ANYONE to find a racist post from me.. but at that point I said to myself, screw it, So as you say, we now have threads on 'the worst thing --- (fill in the blank).. we all come from different places. I think I was angry because I NEVER EVER reported a post, not one, and there were tons. I thought how can I be reported on racism when I am sure I never posted a racist comment... But I've seen some real terrible posts that are still here.. it was personal.. But NOW, I get it. This is a happy place, happy, happy, and full of wonderful people.

When you say rabid people were mostly liberals, I would say 'rabid people were mostly conservatives' ha! it goes along with what my mom always said and akin to this... Catherine, beauty is in the eye of the beholder... as in any conversation - interpretation is in the mind of the speaker/reader. So, I thank you very much for this post, I used to always say I was open to change, maybe I was just saying it, now I will do it. And I can be a know it all AND I was on the debate team all thru college and I love to debate, maybe I didn't learn enough to change my thoughts on myself, but I will now.

peace and happyness and love

Hi,

We are not as smart as we think sometimes(Mrs B), and we are not as nice as we think we are. Those rabid people are mainly liberals,
PPS
There are other threads going on about pettiness, toxic people, and of course entitlements. How do you reconcile what you criticize about others and commend about yourselves with how you behave in controversial threads like the political ones.? Ella had to close a very simple thread that asked for a yes vote for a new idea presented. Can anyone explain why there is no self control, and the obvious rehashing of an issue that was settled. Oh, the entitlement issue. Once anything is said, it is open season to voice your opinion, YOU ARE ENTITLED. Well guess what, that's what causes bullying, pettiness and shows your disdain for others. It shows your disdain for Andrey as well. No-one asked for comments. Did someone report that thread? Someone says Butt Out, which is the correct response, and not rude- the others are rude interfering because they think they are entitled.

The sense of Self Importance on this board seems misplaced to me. Do you think Ella is kidding when she says "thats why you can't have nice things"? You fight about everything. You agree on nothing. Say less, and control yourselves and this place and admin will be better for it.

And yes, some posts should be reported.

The key limes we get here in Texas are teeny and it takes like 30 of them to make a pie, but I have this little green squeezy thing and I make Key Lime Pie more than I ever did AND HUMBLE BRAG coming: my son has asked me to make him a Key Lime Pie for his birthday in 2 weeks! (he used to always love my from scratch chocolate cake with coffee icing!)... I love key lime pie!

I love making home made Key lime pie. You gotta squeeze 10 or more of those itty bitty limes. But so worth it in the end!

During a visit to FL several years ago, I had key lime pie in quite a few restaurants. I totally fell in love with it.
So when I came home, I made it over and over again. It's easy and delicious!
I have the little green squeezy thing too!
Hmmm....That sounds questionable.......:P2
