Had my first shot of Pfizer today as did my husband. He had no issues. For me... my mouth and my tongue got tingly. Still feeling something after 15 hours. But now they feel incredibly dry more than anything. I feel like I just ate a huge bag of salt and vinegar potato chips.

Going for shot 2 in 3 weeks.

You might want to ask about taking a Benadryl with your next shot.

Updating. 48 hours later and nothing major to report after second Pfizer dose. Hubby had a slight headache and fatigue but slept it off yesterday—a good 4 hours. I took a 2 hour nap also—which is unusual for me—so i guess i had experience a bit of grogginess—tho it’s hard to blame the shot given that I always feel out of it lately. Lol. We are both feeling super well today!

This is weird, but I'm about 18 hours post pfizer shot #1 and all my senses are super heightened. Every single one. It started about 6-7 hours afterwards (food tasted way more flavorful than usual, cookies from the same batch I had yesterday morning tasted too sweet, I can hear people walking and talking outside with windows shut, and my lights are suddenly too bright, fingertips just... feel more) but I didn't put it together till this morning. And it feels like i drank a whole pot of coffee. Did they accidentally give me cocaine or am I turning into spiderman?

Also I have a slightly sore left arm and one achy index joint.

I’m so glad you posted your experience @ForteKitty..My son is autistic..He’s getting his second shot tomorrow. He wouldn’t be able to verbalize those feelings to me..even though he can communicate...I can keep an eye out now..Thank you!

I hope he doesn't have any reactions at all, good luck! Did you notice whether he was more sensitive to lights and sounds after the first shot?

My shot was last sunday at 3pm. I had a really difficult time falling asleep (thought I was too excited) and it wasn't until I drank my morning coffee the next day that I realized the coffee tasted weird, like my tongue could separate the coffee and the water. It was made exactly the same everyday, ground and brewed myself, so that's when I put all the other sensory things together. The cookie, dinner, all the sounds and smells from the previous night. My fingertips felt like they had extra tiny fingers on them. I imagine if the heightened sensations were happening all over my skin it would be extremely uncomfortable, and maybe that's why I couldn't sleep but I couldn't recognize it at the time. Most of it went away by about 1-2pm.

No..He said his arm hurt a little..It wasn’t enough to take anything for pain. The heightened senses may be something that he may experience. If I ask him directly he would be able to tell me. He’s like a little child so I did warn him about a potential headache or chills. He knows he can wake me to help him if he needs me during the night..

Really good suggestion @House Cat . I actually went to the ER yesterday as I felt my tongue swelling. Luckily it wasn't - but they kept me there for a few hours to observe. I'll need to discuss shot 2 with my doc and I'll definitely ask about Benadryl ; the ER doc strongly suggested I follow through with it; to paraphrase her perspective- you can have confidence that mild reactions like I had can be easily treated; you can't say the same about Covid.

I feel really silly having gone to the ER. It was an emotional day getting the shot, and I was just scared.

One tidbit to share- I went to a mass vaccination site. Run incredibly well btw. The nurse giving me the shot said "kinda feels like we are living in a Sci Fi movie doesn't it? I told her "that's because we are." :)

Don't feel silly for having gone to the ER. You were smart. You didn't know how severe your reaction could get so you did exactly the right thing. I am glad it was ultimately a mild reaction and I am glad you are doing OK now. I agree ask your doctor but I also have to say I think you should definitely get the second dose. A benadryl might really be a good idea and also make sure an epipen is on site or bring one yourself. When we got our vaccine we brought our epipens just in case as I am very allergic to so many things. Always better safe than sorry. Feel well @facetgirl and congratulations on getting your first dose.

And I agree. It seems all the vaccination sites (mega and otherwise) are being run incredibly well here (in NY and NJ) and everywhere (in the states and elsewhere) from what I am hearing. The Javitz Center (Manhattan) is one amazing example where both my sister and parents got their two Pfizer doses and it was run so smoothly according to them. Very impressive. And same here at the County health department level. Excellent operations. Very pleased with how it is going.

Everyone stay safe and hopefully everyone who wants to be vaccinated will be very soon.

I have a question for those who had side effects that knocked them out from their second Moderna vaccine:

How long after the vaccine did you start feeling those effects?

I had to leave town suddenly and need to go back home for my 2nd shot and trying to get other personal things done before I get back to care for my mom as it might be awhile. (Fortunately, I can do this with work being remote and my husband and daughter able to handle things at home).

I know that there is a good chance that I will have significant effects for a day or two after the 2nd shot but trying to minimize my time home as I need to arrange coverage for my mom while away.

If I get the vaccine in the morning, will I still be able to do things that morning/day with any side effects hitting the next day?

P.S. I realize the answer is here in individual posts but my time hasn't been my own so apologize for being too lazy to read through the posts for an answer. I truly appreciate any guidance based on experience.

As I understand it generally the side effects won't hit you for at least a few hours so you should be OK that morning you get the vaccine. If you do get side effects they can consist of sore arm (most common and that comes on within a few hours to 12 hours) and fatigue followed by low grade fever/chills/body aches (less common) in about 12 hours (generalization) lasting approximately 36 hours from the vaccination time. So overall the fever/chills etc shouldn't last more than a day from when they start.

Thank you @missy ! That was my understanding but wanted to confirm. I will schedule accordingly and keep my fingers crossed!

Hours 12-20 after the shot were the worst for me, then I took advil and felt much better.

Lol. He doesn’t need to respond adversely for his immune system to kick in. I did read that some people who’ve had Covid will experience more side effects tho. But also, I’ve never had the flu and I’ve been teaching for 24 years so you would think I would have contracted it at some point but nope. I’ve also Never experienced a fever in my life so I was freaking out about the second dose. Luckily i had no side effects other than a mild sore arm and I don’t think I have a weak immune system. Funny thing is I was totally exposed to Covid from my MIL on Xmas day. She had Covid and didn’t know it and we were all chillin playing games and drinking. And yet no one got Covid. Not even my Fil.

Maybe it was the alcohol @nala! Haha All kidding aside..I’m happy no one else got it..I had the flu twice in my life. The first time wasn’t too bad....The second time I got it so bad I crawled to the phone to tell my mom not to come for her visit. She did anyway... I got a yearly flu shot after that. That was over twenty-five years ago!

@diamondringlover I can’t believe asthma isn’t eligible...That‘s absolutely mind boggling! I’m so sorry you’re worried...I’ve kept my son home from his sheltered workshop because he wouldn’t think to stay away from people or wash his hands enough..I would be a basket case. He’s been home with me for a year..

Hahahaha! I would totally believe that but DH doesn’t drink! And neither do the littles. Lol. DD was exposed at her Xmas party and no one got it there either! She was drinking with a girl who had it at the time! But yeah. I tell hubby when I go to the casino that I drink to kill Covid :lol-2:

I voted that I'm not getting the vaccine, but that isn't necessarily true. I have received conflicting advice from my doctors, because I have autoimmune issues. So, I am taking a conservative approach. I think I will get the vaccine, but I'm waiting for more clinical evidence in how it affects people with AI.

hHi Diamond Girl,

I also have rare auto immune disease and was initially waiting as well. I saw my autoimmune Dr. and he recommended I get as soon as possible. I had my first shot of Phzier yesterday with few side effects. The variants are what pushed me to get sooner than later. I want to ensure I have some protection because I can’t take a lot of medications

Thanks for this important thread.
I finally got an appointment for next week for the first Moderna jab.
Now, I'll read this thread with great interest and later I can cast my vote.

While I'm not one of those tens of millions of Murkan nutjobs who see news as fake, it is wonderful to read about the direct experience of regular people with whom I am familiar.

I just can't wait to see how Bill Gate's microchip is going to alter me.

First shot (Moderna) on Thursday.

Sore arm that evening, but nothing else.

Next day arm was more sore, felt tired, achy, and had trouble getting warm in the morning. Had a short period of chills / shivers (think - 15 minutes), then quite warm that evening.

Woke up today, all good and back to normal except for slightly achy arm.

Expecting to have no symptoms left when I wake tomorrow.

Husband had Pfizer on Wednesday. Achy arm, no other symptoms at all. Arm back to normal by Friday.

This was my worst symptom after both doses of Pfizer. Sore, puffy, itchy, hot red arm that went away in a week.

Its the next day and my arm I got the shot in is a bit achey and heavy feeling but if I was not looking for it I probably would not have noticed. Its minor.

Glad you got your appointment Kenny, I like that they tell you which your going to get. That was my biggest worry as I did not want the j&j so knowing which they were offering would have been nice.
