I  the second one. I wonder what size the diamond is?

Me too -- the second one is a beauty!

Tristan, do not have a ring custom made without knowing her exact ring size!!! Can you buy her some kind of inexpensive ring that would allow you to figure out her size???

Hmm, the only thing I can think of is to buy 3 diamond candles and sneak in a 3 1/2, 3 3/4, 4 Ring size into them, but that's too convoluted. I'll keep thinking.

Or maybe sizing rings and slip them on while she's asleep - she sleeps quite soundly so I can take some liberties with her fingers :naughty:

Anybody know where I can get a pack of 5 sizing rings?

Tristan,

You may be able to get a plastic ring sizer hoop from People Park Centre in Chinatown. There are a few shops selling beads and jewellery making stuff and I remember seeing one in one of the shops there. Please note that People Park Centre is the one opposite Chinatown Point with many small tour agencies inside.

Acebruin that three stone is divine :)

Tristan-is it possible that VC can take pictures of your stone next to different pairs of side stones/melee/whatever to see what the proportions would look like? I have seen other designers do this and it might be a good way to visualize the proportions.

thanks pregcurious, slg47, diamondseeker2006, Amys Bling...

LM did this when he was setting my yellow RB... the top one is with 0.30 tcw pears, the bottom one is with 0.48 tcw pears... keep in mind the center is 1.01 ct...

ok, nobody shoot me but i have a thought about going with a bezel that i can't shake. it sounds like you are for sure going with platinum, and i have a platinum bezel myself. it's probably a thicker bezel than you would go with, so keep that in mind, but it does dull as the 'patina' sets in. that being the case, i can't picture the dull gray of patina'd platinum complimenting the delicate, feminine pink of your stone. with a white diamond it doesn't bother me, but i feel like with a pink it just would't 'go'; that it might even take away from the feel you are looking to achieve. of course, if it's a super thin bezel or if you/your GF are willing to have it polished frequently it might not be as much of a concern. just food for thought.... :))

What an interesting thought. Totally didn't cross my mind. I think this would add to the Vintage look a lot, so need to decide the style properties. But definitely something I'll bear in mind, thanks!

@Phoenix: I think Rubin will be the one, they have a min order of only 50euros. Thanks!

@Addy: So nice to hear from you too :wavey: I would love it if you could share pictures of those lovely rings

@Preg: I agree totally. Small stones need loving too! The french cuts were my original idea, which gave way to a baguette, which gave way to a 3 stone. I don't think I can ask Victor for concept sketches of everything that comes to mind? So I'm trying to keep it along 1 max 2 options

@Susimoo: Thanks for coming onboard! That is an interesting photo of straight cut bullets, thanks! Those rings are lovely. What I'm realising is that these rings with bezels and illusion heads start to look very vintage - which I think may not be appropriate to her personal style. She likes modern classic styles so as lovely as they are, I think your photos are helping cement that I might need to get a more modern look

@Winternight: I'll likely have Victor make the band as well when the time comes and she can decide how she wants that.

@happybear: Ok, that's worth checking out! Thanks. Hello to a fellow Singaporean!

@slg47: Yes I'm sure I'll have to trouble him to do that once I've shipped my stone to him. I'm sure he would be happy to do so too.

@sapphirering: MC2 were the only other people I was considering (VC was the choice over LM/SK for me, MC2 the only other alternative). But when I spoke to them some of the styles that I loved - their floral looking rings seem to benefit from a 1.5ct and upwards stone.

@Acebruin: Thanks bud, I'll ask for these. My 4 options are gonna be bigger pear, smaller pear, tapered bullets, straight bullets

Tristan, if you need concept pictures, just try to find the rings in the appropriate size (with a half carat center), and I will paste in your stone with Photoshop.

Tristan,

I am waiting on my own Emilya Halo being completed and this is keeping me out of trouble.

I will post a few more settings, with bezels. Whilst the shapes aren't what you are looking for they may give you some design inspiration.

If you like antique designs, Gypsy's last suggestion made me think of this ring that I bought recently with a .55 center:

I've loved Facetfire's Michael Bondanza setting since I ran across it in an old thread - not exactly a halo at all but would show off Pinkie's profile admirably plus providing the little bit of sparkle contrast next to the pink

About 4 years ago someone set a ruby in it but unfortunately no side shot.

Then a couple of weeks ago I noticed LOGR had something similar and while I don't like the cutouts he's done, I think VC could put french cuts or bullets and take this ring to the next level.

ETA: Oops! Just realized I've missed 2 pages of this thread...will go back and catch up.

LOGR-bondanza-side2.jpg

Okay...caught up and I'm still with this. Notice the V insert on the Bondanza which becomes the prongs. Notice also the collar that LOGR has added. If Victor can raise up the diamond collar at the sides so that it is level with Pinkie, with or without the extra plain collar I believe he could fit a couple of tapered bullets in there even though the shank width is determined by the pink . The ring has the modern look that you prefer and I think it's a very elegant ring which won't overpower the FCD.

Anyone with photoshop skills willing to pop the pink in the first Bodanza and the LOGR side view (and maybe cover the holes) please?

Tristan,

You know you can go to their shop (no need to pay the min):

3791 Jalan Bukit Merah
06-30 E-centre Redhill
Singapore 159471
Phone: 00 65 63 76 02 55
Fax: 00 65 63 76 27 59

E-mail: [email protected]

I checked out (but didn't buy) the US stick ring sizer and it's only 8 Euros. Similarly, the hoops are only 8 Euros. So you go to the shop and get the hoops and pay the equivalent in SGD.

Tristan-I am excited to see that you are keeping this lovely stone and moving forward with setting it!

I think a 3 stone with high color pear or tapered bullets would be gorgeous!!! Just wondering why you would set the pink center in platinum and not rose gold? There are many alloy options for RG that I wouldn't worry about it clashing with the color of your round. Pinks have a tendency to go white/light in certain lighting conditions and I would want all the help you can get colorwise-since that is why you bought a pink to begin with :) ALso, with RG the prongs will blend in more with the stone.

Good luck, am looking forward to seeing the finished ring!!!

I was looking around on PS and found a ring owned by diamondsrock - .54 center and .18-.20 pear side stones - just thought I would post it to give you an idea as to how these proportions would look.

good find- I like these proportions.

Follow the link if you would like to see different views of the ring.

This ring houses a .45ct OEC (so somewhat similar in size to your FCD). I think the width of the ring would provide great finger coverage without succumbing to the halo you've been hoping to avoid. I think the tapering does an excellent job of drawing your eye to the center of the ring, right where you'd want it to -- on that beautiful FCD! I'm sure Victor could execute an exquisite version of this ring -- LGK has a bezeled VC ring, and it is a stunner!

Oh well done Junebug! :appl: It really helps to be able to see something in a 3 stone with roughly the same proportions.

I have a 0.47 (5mm) carat with tapered baguette sides totalling 0.24. More delicate setting, set higher, about 2 1/4 mm wide.
My friend just received a 0.52 (unsure of mm) carat with pear sides totalling 0.20. Wider setting, set lower, tapers nicely to the point of the pears.

I love both looks! Both very classic. From a distance of more than about a foot you can't tell our rings apart. I think her's sparkles a bit more with the pear sides and I probably like that look a bit better.

How do you plan on highlighting the pink centre? Do you think the very white side stones will do it?

yes, yes! i second the request for pics!

I can provide photos of my ring, but not of her ring. We were at her engagement party recently and were looking at the rings. I probably won't see her again for a couple of months! I'm not sure my ring on it's own will provide the comparison you're looking for.

Tristan *these are NOT setting suggestions but are for you to see how settings will affect the look*

I know you don't want a halo but I want to show you how much smaller your diamond will look with baguettes or pears. The red centre is .50ct with a good spread so it's probably similar to the size of your diamond. I absolutely hated it with the baguettes because it felt tiny with no presence - I realise this also has something to do with the fact they weren't tapered bags and also that they could have been bigger but even so, it just looked small. I KNOW you don't want the design I ended up with but it makes much more of a statement - so these photos are just to demonstrate how the design seriously affects the "presence" of the ring.

The last photo is a blue irradiated diamond, again, .50ct but it has the same side round brillilant cut sides. This ring looks a good size when on but that's because of the balance of the three stones. The white diamonds are just a tiny bit smaller than the blue.

Just thought you might like to see some different examples.

I do wish I had photos of friend's ring and mind side and side and from a distance.

My ring is from Fay Cullen, who I don't recommend at all, it was the worst customer service ever. I received it before I was on PS and knew anything about diamonds. The centre stone is 5 mm and is estimated at 0.47 with a total weight of 0.71. It sits a total of about 7-8 mm off the finger and feels very high to me. Most days I don't think it looks small on my hand but I whack it a lot so hardly wear it. I wear about a 6 3/4. Okay, enough justification on why I'm not a huge fan of it...photos!

Maybe someone talented can colour the centre pink so you can see what yours might look like?
