Are you considering modern cushions or antique cushions, or both?
They are quite different, and have their own personalities.
Modern cushions are a bit tricky, as all fancy cuts are, so you should have an idea of the style of cushion you’re looking for:
Square, elongated, broad or tiny facets (consistency across the stone is key to avoid “mushiness”).
What draws you to them? Preference is a huge factor in selecting fancy cuts. What are your preferences?
What size, approx., are you interested in (ct wt v mm spread)?
Are you color sensitive, or do Antique cushions speak to you with their creamy tones, and pastel flashes of light?
Do you have a preference on clarity?
What is your budget?
Do you have a timeline, or can we play & explore, a little?

I met with a gemmologist yesterday (who has a company that design rings) and she will look at both cushions and round cuts for me (as I haven't decided between the two of them yet).
This is the kind of design I want :

Don't know which metal to go for though.
