I''m looking for a chunky facet RB gemstone and would love to see photos of any that are out there. It would be similar to the OEC chunky faceted diamond.....

Do you know of a particular cutter who might be best at providing something like this?

Thank you!!!!

Yes!

Lori, Dan does an RB that looks just like an OEC I think.

I will find BA''s thread where I discovered it, also my mint tourm is the same cut.

You should definately get one, I believe he calls it a modified RB.

here''s BA''s https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/blue-spinel-halo-ring.102820/

and mine https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/tourmaline-is-here.104556/

Oh I love that cut! AJ, is that the tourm that was next to the rose gold setting in the pic you posted? (on my thread?)

AWESOME....THANK YOU AJ!!!!

Dan is a miracle worker....look what he just cut for me! This is the first of two.

It is a spinel that shows a color shift from being a lighter
blue in daylight to a very slightly grayish medium purplish blue under
incandescent light. This one weighs .90 carats and measures 5.94mm,
which is considered a calibrated 6mm size. This stone is the same cut
as the tourmaline, with one addition where I split the main facets on
the crown to increase the brilliance a little.

Here is the second!

The first is a yellowish green mint tourmaline with a color similar to a
Merelani mint garnet. That stone weighs 1.25 carats and measures 6.84mm
(should fit nicely in a 7mm setting).

If my memory serves me right, Jeff Graham has several chunky facet designs. You can look through his website and then have one cut for you either by Jeff or another cutter (his books are quite popular and easily acquired).

I love Dan''s work!! I can''t wait for you to get them... and you will be sharing some photo''s, yes???

Those are really pretty! I''ve been longing for some chunky facets myself! (Of course, there are plenty of things I''m longing for.)

The faceting looks nice! I''d love to see more straight-face up pics when you get the stones.

When you talk about "chunky facets", what do you really mean? That looks like a pretty typical round cut? I''m puzzled.

Hi Gene, agreed in these pics they do look like a regular RB - but I believe Dan calls this a "modified RB".

Here is another example of the same cut, you can see when viewed from head on it resembles an Old European or Transitional diamond Cut (hope you don''t mind me using your pic BA)..
This facet pattern is the "chunkiness" that the members are seeking..

And here is a pic of Dan's "regular" RB - I'm no pro, so not sure what causes it when cutting..but to me the difference in appearance is coming from the facets under the table..
(of course anyone with more technical insight than I please chime in!)..
