Hi EVERYONE!!!

I am a first time posting so apologise if this is in the wrong thread!!

This is my perfect ring, I love the proportions of it, I am wondering if anyone can tell me what carat size this ring is roughly? Normally I can find a double halo too big or slightly too bulky but this is so delicate and feminine!

Also read something on another thread about pointers, sorry I am new to researching an engagement ring and guessing that is the size of the diamonds in the halos? Can anyone help me guess the size of these pointers.

Thanks you so very much,
Joy

The center stone is a .62ct cushion... :praise:

I agree with DF, the center stone is a carat or less. I'm not sure whether it's a cushion or a radiant cut, however. The two halos are interesting - the inner halo sort of looks circular, while the outer halo is more cushion-y.

Looks like a cushion around 80-90 points set in a rounded double halo with a split shank. Melee size is probably at or under a full point in the halos. I can't tell if both halos are same size or not for sure but I think the inner halo is smaller. So probably under a point for inner halo and just at a point for outer

That is the Tiffany & Co. Soleste. If you have a Tiffany near you, you can go check it out to get a better idea of what size will work best for you! :)

You are correct that is the soleste! Do'h!

Looks like the same ring to me. And looking on the internet it's definetly the under carat size around 80 points or so.

You can get a nice 80 point cushion for about 3.5k and the setting for about 4k. So it would cost about 7k in the right quality for an engagement ring. Yes, you can find cheaper settings, but they won't last. Please read below:

Nice diamonds with excellent performance.

And I recommend Brilliantly Engaged for the setting. I personally would do under a point for the melee for both halos.

Hey everyone!!!

Thank you much for your replies!! This information is amazing and you are so knowledgeable!! I am a bit embarrassed that I didn't realise that the ring was Tiffany's! :wall:

I don't want the ring to look too big because I have small fingers so was hoping to get a diamond 0.7-0.9 for it.

I live in the UK and was hoping to get it from a wholesale retailer called 77diamonds, it seems to be the best value for money hat I can find. I will definitely look into the diamonds and desingers you have mentioned and see how much tax etc would cost. Thanks for the links to other posts on the forum I am not getting a Platinum ring before I was getting White Gold!!

Has anyone heard of anywhere similiar in the UK or heard of 77 diamonds?

Thank you

Only guessing from a pic, but I THINK that center diamond is smaller than some other guestimates on here - I'd say 1/2 carat, but IDK.

Cushions face up smaller than rounds.

As for 777diamonds. I sincerely doubt they will give you a y value. If you mean cheap pricez that's not value with jewelry. That's overpriced junk for the quality Especially with halo settinds and cushions. You need more knowledge.

Hi Gypsy, :wavey:

I have messaged enchanted diamonds to discuss purchasing a diamond and to gauge taxes etc which would be $1200 for the diamond that I was looking at, I have asked if they can post the diamond directly to the jeweller that you mentioned to me (Brilliantly Engaged - is that who you would recommend to create the ring?) but I haven't had a response from BE yet to know if they would be happy to accept this, I am also not 100% sure if I am happy about doing this either. My best option would be to fly over to collect the finished piece thus avoiding taxes and to see it in person before it is shipped to me incase I am not happy with something and to avoid the taxes twice! I am concerned that BE offer a very short warranty where 77diamonds offer a lifetime warranty. 77diamonds is a wholesaler based in London, I wasn't sure if I was going to purchased only the diamond or have them make it also, I am trying to source a reputable jeweller in the UK currently.

I have done a lot of research over the last few weeks and I know a lot more than I did before I started but won't pretend to be an expert at all!! There is so much to choosing a diamond and you personally have a huge knowledge base regarding this so I really respect what you are telling me.

I am currently looking at a diamond on 77diamonds, could you tell me if this is OK or what isn't good about it?
0.84, F, VVS2, EX cut, polish and symmetry, no fluorescence, no cutlet, medium to slightly thick girdle, depth 66.3% and table 59% (I couldn't find a table between 61-67% at the carat I am looking for), 5.4x5.26x3.49, ratio 1.03, £2583/$3772, I haven't seen an ASET or a moving video of the diamond but I have asked for these.

Thank you!!

That would be my guess too. I know a lot depends on finger size, but this one looks close and apparently, its center is .44:

This one has a .38 center (size 6):

This is all to say that I think if you're worried about it being too big, I wouldn't go much over .50 seeing as you have small fingers. And since you're trying to keep it super delicate, I'd put the bulk of the $ into the setting.

They look so pretty!! I didn't think it was as big, to me it looked around 0.5 but I am not good at judging these kinds of things at all :D haven't had the practice yet :naughty: :naughty:

Okay so. You have no idea what you are doing.

Let's see if we can help with that.

Here's some information to start you off:
The entire purpose of faceting a diamond is to reflect light.
How well or how poorly a diamond does this determines how beautiful it is.
How well a diamond performs is determined by the angles and cutting. This is why we say cut is king. With fancies though (anything other than a round brilliant), that is a little complicated. But no other factor: not color, not clarity has as much of an impact on the appearance of a diamond as its cut. And none of the numbers on a lab report or any information on a lab report can help you select a well performing and beautiful cushion. Because numbers are meaningless.

There really is no other way to determine if you have a good cushions other than to see images of the stones, and then IN ADDITION to that you need is a way to check actual light performance of your actual stone. That's why I posted the ED stone for you. It has images and an ASET posted already. At the least, consider getting the stone from them, and having just the setting made locally.

That's what an ASET image does. http://www.highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=education-performance Please read.
And ASET shows you how and wear your diamond is reflecting light, how well it is going at it, and where you are losing light return That is why you won't see us recommending vendors like Blue Nile, as they do not provide images or ASET images for their diamonds. James Allen and Good Old Gold do this. So do Brian Gavin and Whiteflash and High Performance Diamonds.

Or you can get an AGS0 cushions, but those are rare, and usually branded. GIA does not grade their cushions for performance. Only AGS does. And any lab other than GIA or AGS is not worth considering at all. Vendor cut scores on websites are generally not reliable although the top cushion lines (Signature lines) at BGD (hearts and arrows), BE and GOG are usually excellent performers. And ED has lots of cushions with ASETs already posted, so they are also a good vendor to look into.

Now, read this:

And this:

Then this:

That's the minimum you need to know. Okay? :wavey:

Hi Gypsy,

Wow you know so much, I don't know if I ever could learn even the tinest bit of what you know! You should be working in the trade rather than being an enthusiast!!!!! It's so impressive, I can see just how many people you have helped you are so unbelievably kind to have taken that much time and to help strangers as well!! Thank you so very much!

Ok SO I may need to rethink a few things, 77diamonds can't offer ASET's so following your advice I won't be purchasing from anyone who can't offer this as you have said cut is King ;-) The UK diamond industry isn't like the US unfortunately, so I will purchase a diamond from the US, I will either get it posted to the jeweller (is this something people do- is it safe?) and get it posted to me in the UK or I will pick up the diamond from the ED and take it to the BE myself, hopefully if the CAD designs are made beforehand the jeweller can make it in a few days and I can come home with it. Either way I have to pay import duty on it so I need factor this into our budget and save for it.

To buy a diamond you recommend - enhanced diamonds?
To make the ring you recommend - brilliantly engaged?

The design I like is the Tiffany Soleste, what specifically would you recommend to ask BE for? You said earlier - it was a split shank with a rounded double halo, the inner halo melee to be under a point and the outer halo melee to be a point. Is that ok? Anything else? I want the ring to look really delicate, what can you recommend for the actual band? Is there a thinkness you would recommend for that?

I need to rethink my budget, you are recommending $3.5K for the diamond and $4K for the setting which is higher than I was thinking but I want a lovely ring so we will just have to save a little bit longer. I specifically want a colourless diamond if it is within my budget, I have read you guys talking about it but I had my heart set on getting a colourless if possible, this alongside an excellent cut would be gorgeous! I also don't want to worry about inclusions at all, the stress of waiting on the ring if I am not able to come to the US (which I doubt I will be able to do) to pick it up would be too much for me, I can't afford to send the ring back and pay import duties again if I am unhappy so it has to be right the first time SO am looking for a VS1 or better. I will take anything you recommend to me on board so if you think that I would be upping the cost of the diamond unnecessarily by choosing a colourless rather than a G I will go with what you say and the same with VS1 rather than VS2. Obviously want the best I can get for the other characteristics - table, depth, girdle etc etc. Realistically how much do we need to save for these? You also said the diamond was between 0.8-0.9 carat. I am planning on looking around the local jewellery stores next week so I will get a better indication as to what exact size I want, I read that you said cushions don't reflect carat weight like other cuts so I will specifically write down dimensions of the stone size I like rather than carat weight.

Cushions seem to come in so many different cuts, are there any specifically you think are the nicest in terms of facet pattern and brightness? I know this is probably a personal choice but would be interested to hear your thoughts on them. I want a square cushion rather than a rectangle.

When I am able to make the purchase I will come back and ask your advice on which specific diamond if you don't mind?

Again thank you Gypsy and to everyone who has commented, it means a lot that you guys are helping. This is such a lovely friendly forum seriously thank you.

Okay so. Call Brilliantly Engaged. And also call IDJ.

See what they can quote you, "out the door" for that style setting, custom CAD and CAST, in platinum set with a 70-80 point center with excellent light return.

Tiffany goes down to I with their diamonds. If you stay at H you should be thrilled. Vs2 is fine, but in a brilliant cut stone in that size an eyeclean SI1 with safe inclusions (both vendors will be honest with you) would be the best value and I would personally be thrilled with that.
It will be perfectly safe. I promise.

That's where I'd start. They will be the best to advise you.
