82245A3F-705F-4CDB-87A0-8CB2BFC9805F.jpeg Found a diamond we think we like. Wondering if the girdle might be too thin. Also twinning wisp near but not to surface and feathers. Would this pose a risk for breaking?

Yeah .... I would be concerned about feathers in an already thin girdle ... but that’s just my reasoning and not an expert opinion. I suppose it can depend how it is set ... will you put it in a bezel?

How do you know that the twinning wasps and feathers don’t reach the surface?

Are those your only concerns with this diamond? Are you looking for help finding something comparable?

We were planning on putting it in a six prong solitaire. We already bought it because the price was right, but the vendor doesn’t have it in house and is going by what their diamond partner says. So far their diamond partner says the wisps? don’t break the surface. Don’t know about the feathers. We can cancel the order if needed, but we’re really hoping this one is it because it’s such a good deal and frankly we’re getting a little impatient with trying to find a stone in budget. Just looking for opinions from different people while we wait for what the vendors assessment is. Also, the partner said it’s eyeclean from 8-12 inches. 4 inches seems like it’s a lot of difference.

What’s the clarity grade of the stone?

I think that if the price is right for you, this could be a good stone. I’m assuming you found it at a good price. Is there a 30 day return period, just in case?

For the girdle ... thin to medium really should still be ok ... it doesn’t look like any of the feathers go to the edges of the girdle either.

The indented natural on the top by the side of the table would probably bother me ... but it’s not me on the budget, right? And I doubt anyone would notice without knowing it’s there.

The proportions have potential! Can you get an ASET image, or does that matter to you? It would be a shame if it was noticeably dark under the table or something.

You do know that we PSers like to help people find the best diamonds for their budget and preferences? We won’t even push the super ideals if you’re not interested, lol.

love the proportions but i'm iffy on the clarity of the stone. What is the size of the stone? If under 1ct, the inclusions are probably fine but a larger stone would meanthey are more visible. Are there clarity comments on the cert like "clouds not shown"? If so, at SI1, it would concern me a bit and SI2 i would pass. Just undecided without seeing a video of the stone and how the inclusions look as it moves. Care to share your budget and size/color/clarity wishes? We could pull up some contenders so you'd have something to compare to.

Based on other recent threads I've participated in, I think this diamond is a 2+ carat stone. OP was upgrading from a 1 carat stone and was debating to stick with his current local jeweler, where he got a 110% trade in value of original stone but with inflated prices. I think his budget was around $25k as a trade deal or around $17,500 on a cash deal via an online dealer (assuming zero for existing stone). Also best I recall, was looking around F color and SI1 clarity on the other stones.

Agree with @farrahlyn, the proportions look quite lovely. Small 54 table should pop very nicely with that 34/40.8 combo and 80 LGF's. A nice balanced stone.

Problem is clarity as already noted. Look at the picture where I circled. Not sure if the stone caught a reflection from the flash, etc but around the 12 to 1 o'clock positions it looks cloudy/milky.

I agree with all of this.

I asked about the milky/cloudiness And they said it was clean and also the florescence doesn’t affect its performance

Once this dealer finally gets the stone in hand and sends me all the pictures that I’ve asked for is there any other questions that I should ask her anything I should verify? thanks everyone.

Strong fluoro at SI1 and this size is a potential issue. But seeing ASET/IS should help clear it up.

I know the supplier is saying no, but when I have a picture in my face making me think otherwise I'd be having your jeweler verify this. If you are using your local guy I'd be testing that stone in an array of lighting conditions -- sun, office, jewelers light, etc.

I'd love to see the video. But it's currently "unavailable". :(2

The strong fluor with E color, SI1 clarity in 2.19 carats plus the additional twinning whisps, surface graining & pinpoints not shown has me doubtful it's really eye clean.

I'd also want to establish a firm definition of eye clean. A universal definition does not exist. Many vendors utilize the definition of 10" from the top view with 20/20 vision and good lighting. When I was looking I modified mine to 6" from the top or sides with 20/20 vision & good lighting. Also, I consider eye clean as anything that obstructs light return (clouds, ill placed inclusions, etc).

Yes this was just the suppliers version of “eye clean” Once it’s in the jewelers hand I’ll receive a clearer view

Once they do have it in hand do you think you can give me a list of possible questions to go over with the gemologist So I’ll know exactly what I’m getting into?

I’ll try to fix the video
