I am considering canceling my order with Blue Nile because they are having communication issues with their dropshippers and my order. What is your recommendation for alternate website for a similar diamond. I’m hoping to acheive the best cut and highest carat in my budget. Currently have a .81c Astor Ideal H si1 (eye clean) for $4k not including setting. (Tiffany Novo copy)

I will be proposing in 2 weeks 11/9/18E49E1B2D-B106-4B90-9FD6-FA13F7BEC3C0.png

What have BN said so far?

What is their estimated timescale for delivery?

How soon do you require a ring? (If not NOW!!! then is there any particular need to cancel the order?)

Thanks for your reply. In short they are unsure of the shipping status on my ring. This frustrates me to the point of canceling the order to prove a point(I’ve got the run-around for the last 4 days). I have spent a lot of time picking out this ring so I would like your help in finding something comparable from a different vendor

I appreciate the frustration with retailers who seemingly haven't got their house in order!

If you like the ring and the stone (and the stone meets PriceScope standards, of course ;-) ) then I would say hold out - 4 days is not long, really, and if you don't need it immediately, it could be more stress finding an equivalent ring and stone and going through the whole ordering process again.

I have waited for over a month for things I've ordered from the Far East - it is only in this ultra-connected Western world that we expect deliveries from Amazon within the hour :) lol

EDIT: Just spotted your 2-week window before proposal (apologies) - perhaps it might be an idea to set BN a deadline of, say, Friday midday to confirm what is happening, and browse round the other PS-recommended vendors in the meantime, 'just in case'!

This stone rates 1.4 on HCA (low marks only on spread). I’m not sure if it’s the best price on the market but like you said I can’t bear the thought of re order somewhere else. Thanks for the insight

Totally understand the frustration of getting the run-around. i've been going round and round with Sam's Club for almost 2 weeks on cancelling an order and getting a refund. only 1/4 of the money you've spent but still, i COMPLETELY understand cancelling to prove a point. I did it and i don't regret it. We got a delivery on the item we ordered from another company within two days. it took Sams longer than that to communicate the cancellation of my order. Anyway, my thoughts...

for the price you're paying, i'd suggest going to Whiteflash. Super Ideal stones at the same price point. and i'd CALL and ask which setting they'd suggest for the best Novo imitation.

Farrahlyn Thanks for your suggestions. I very much like the last stone you posted. It’s excellent cut and .83ct slightly bigger and only very slightly more money. I will continue browsing the site. Thanks

I'd dump BN too. WF all the way baby!

Here's a different way to compare these 4 diamonds. Personally I'd save $200 and upgrade the color to an F and call it a day.

Not to mention WF has their stones in-stock in their vault. They have excellent upgrade program (spend $1 more and get full credit of original stone) and their customer service is top notch. I'd have no worries with them meeting your 2 week deadline but you need to call and get the ball rolling.

You should note that a Super Ideal vendor like WF has a lot of information available on their site. their ACA stones are vetted and heavily scrutinized. you'll even notice remarks on whether or not they are eye clean. You'll also talk to a real live, ACTUAL person associated with the store (WF is located in Houston) when you call, not just a representative passing along information.

The F would be my choice too out of those too. The .801 H VS2 would be hard to pass up (that tiny table!) but the higher color at such a close price point would probably win me over.

Don't fall for the trick of buying based on weight. Remember, part of weight is hidden in the depth. Instead, look at the dimensions of the stone and you will see they are nearly identical in size.
  • 0.830ct H VS2 = 6.00 x 6.05mm
  • 0.801ct F SI1 = 5.97 x 5.99mm
Size varies from a 0.03 to 0.06 mm. This difference is too small to even detect by the human eye so while technically one is bigger, you will never know by looking at it. However, there is a real chance you might see the crispness of the more white F color than the H color.

That is true. I went back and looked at the proportions a little closer. They are scary close to being identical. While they share the same crown angle, the H crown height is a little more at 15% vs 14.6% on the F. That in combination with the slightly smaller 56.1 table as opposed to the 57.2 table of the F might make the H just a smidge more firey.

Looking at the video I'm torn. I can see the H has some bolder flashes of fire, but I really like the crispness of that F color and it's not that much less firey. Tough call. Only great choices IMO, so there is no wrong answer.

Here are two more options from BG - plus they have 10% off diamonds right now:
https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/...ls/0.828-h-vs2-round-diamond-ags-104102250102
https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/...ls/0.803-h-vs2-round-diamond-ags-104101862142

The upgrade policy is slightly different than WF (you have to upgrade 2 out of 3 categories between carat, color and clarity) whereas WF you just need spend $1 more.

Good call on the upgrade program, although both are still much, much better than BN that requires you spend 2x the original amount to get full credit for the original stone.

With the 10% off coupon this is a pretty good deal. However, I might note it's only valid for the Signature line (not a problem on the stones listed as they are Signatures) and you must buy a setting from them. When I purchased my BGD stone I didn't find their setting prices to be competitive (one of the reasons I went DK) so I'd just be cautious and make sure you don't eat away the savings of the stone by paying more for the setting.

Agreed that both stones are a good deal if you take into account the coupon, even when applying that to the list price. I personally find BG's settings to be slightly nicer with a much wider variety over WF but I understand you were looking for something very specific and DK's price point is definitely a lot better!

Well I’m happy to say I canceled the order with BlueNile. Unfortunately I’m back to searching. Seems you all prefer the WF diamonds so I’m looking for a setting with them. The closest match I found is a petite cathedral which has the same side stone design but with a smaller band and I’m worried the band won’t pop as much as the BN one did. I was lucky enough to see that one in person at their WA location and really liked it. I will keep looking for now. Thanks all. Keep the suggestions coming

Hey @RockyFPV, because of your limited time frame I'd suggest you pick up the.phone and talk to someone at WF. Get an email address and shoot them a link of what you like. They can direct you to what settings they have to offer and/or if they need to custom make something for you.

Also if you are considering any of those stones please place on hold so someone doesn't poach from you.

Good call. I went ahead and reserved the .801 F

ditto the phone call suggestion. They can guide you easily towards a setting or find you one that's not offered on the site. Just a quick phone call and follow up email and i am positive you will have this settled very quickly.

This is fantastic news @RockyFPV. I am glad to hear you are going with WF. You will get a killer stone and for same or less money than an inferior stone. So glad BN decided to rain on your parade as you are getting upgraded in so many ways.

As @farrahlyn mentioned, WF can quickly identify a setting for you. Have you discussed that aspect with them yet? Not trying to rush you, but I want to make sure you don't miss your 2 week window and getting these decisions hammered out sooner rather than later will help guarantee your success.

@farrahlyn and @sledge and to the everybody else who helped out I want to say thank you all. The update is that WF was able to help me out and they have just sent pictures of the finished product. I’m very happy with the level of customer service they provided me. It’s refreshing to know that there are still companies out there who give a about their customers and are willing to accommodate us. Anyway, without further ado.... Well done!!! quick turn around, too.
Good luck with the proposal!

So happy for you @RockyFPV!

I knew WF would treat you right. You might want to put on sunglasses when you go to inspect the stone. I don't want you to get blinded from all the sparkles! :cool2:

Seriously, job well done -- the ring is beautiful! Good luck w/ the proposal.

PS - I forgot to tell you. If you don't post back with your proposal story and more pictures, the ladies here will load up in a special operations helicopter, fly to your house, kick in the door and beat you up. Okay, maybe I exaggerated just a smidge, but everyone likes to see a little bling. ;)2

It's beautiful - we will need lots of pictures!!

Congratulations on the upcoming proposal, and in procuring a stunning engagement ring! I’m glad it all worked out (and so speedily too).

:appl:

Wow! WF delivered indeed. The ring is stunning! Thanks for sharing

I am glad that you cancelled the BN order.
When a thing goes wrong, it tends to go wrong even further.

It's beautiful! Please come back with hand shots once you propose! :appl:

absolutely beautiful!!! Would love to see hand shots after youve proposed :)
