Before sending this to GIA... two questions

So here’s the pawn shop splurge from a previous post, separated from the little baby (being set in platinum milgrain bezel). She’s clean as a whistle. I’m sending her to GIA today. No matter what her grade is when she comes back from the lab, I really want to keep her. Seems like with her longer pavilion facets she’s likely to be a transitional but we’ll see what they say. Meanwhile, I have two questions for you all...

First, is there any reason to NOT have the report number laser inscribed on the sugar frosted girdle?

And second, what should I name her?

hmmm, not sure about the laser inscribing. Shes SO beautiful, what about Rosie?

Name....not sure.
I will add that sometimes a laser inscription can cause a reflection that might look like a tiny imperfection.
This would only be visible if one has incredibly sharp vision.
So if that aspect might bother you, I'd skip it......

Thanks for responding. I asked for the full monty in my service request, but they won’t do the engraving until they hear from me so I still have time to decide. Therefore if anyone else wants to weigh in, please do.

Speaking of weight, my scale said it was 1.0 ct even... and at 6mm, that tells me the scale was either calibrated wrong (possible) or it’s a chubby chubster. Either way, no cheesecake for a while.

I wouldn’t inscribe esp it if is not a modern round brilliant. The just didn’t have that then. and the frosted girdle might impede inscribing. Don’t know though. Just seems weird.

So I sent it off, registered and insured... and the tracking number is a reused one, and I’m fretting about it. The postal clerk asked me what the contents were, and I responded “samples” because I couldn’t think of what else to say. Now I’m sitting here stewing until the tracking number starts working.

Argh.

Did you take more detailed macro pics to map its inclusion than what the pics show, just in case...?

I was unsure about inscribing my Oec as well. Ultimately I didn’t because I felt;

- someone trying to dupe me could easily polish the inscription off
- if the inscription was polished off the stone would have to be identified by the inclusion plot the same way as if the inscription never happened
- I felt I wanted to preserve the original condition
- I wasn’t 100% sure what was the right thing to do so I didn’t
- any jeweller with the equipment can do the inscription if I decide I want it later

The advice I received was very supportive both ways and I did what I felt comfortable with.

I didn’t take macro shots, no. The stone has a distinctive tiny cavity (visible at 10 o’clock) so I’ll be able to recognize my stone as long as it is unset. Once set, the cavity might be covered by a prong. But I do take your point, honest.

That’s a good argument. I probably should not have the number lasered on. Thank you for this. When they contact me to confirm and take payment, I’ll decline the inscription.

Thanks Wink! She's got color, that's for sure! Her report says she's a 1.01 VS2 "L" and I'm more than happy with that. No name as of yet. I'm sure it will come to me as I drift to sleep tonight.
