If you have read the recent posts, you can tell that I was really "bummed out" on Sunday, but kaleigh provided much needed encouragement and I''m back on track.

This is Memorial Day in the US.

Thanks for the avatar compliment - a picture from GOG. Jonathan has been amazing to work with.

Any news on the asscher that GOG is bringing in for you?

I haven't heard from GOG regarding the 2.47 asscher, that's why I asked if it's a holiday wkend in the states cos they are usually really good with replying to my emails.

I also don't understand why getting quotes for this ring is so difficult....why vendors aren't responding? Or why they are making it so hard?

And honestly if they can't understand what you want or you are having such a hard time with just the basics, do you really want to work with them? There are lots of places to make a custom ring....I'd keep shopping around!

Okay so here is a question...why can't isaku clarify herself with Pete?

Of course your offer to help is very generous and I am sure she appreciates it, but if she is going to be working on the project with them, why can't she ask them herself why they require the stone? Would it be a different answer to you vs her? Doubt it. And wouldn't it be best for her to hear it from them herself rather than having you relay what they say?

IMO, it would benefit her immensely to learn how to best work with Quest herself, if she plans to use them for this project so that you don't have to keep jumping in to assist. It's great that everyone around here is so helpful but the bottom line is that the project is between the client and the vendor and a third party is just adding potential for future miscommunication or confusion later.

Just my thoughts.

Mara...Thank you for your brutal honesty. Pete and I came to an impasse regarding the fluoresence in the diamond AND setting said diamond. He insisted he wanted to look at the stone to get an idea of the angles, etc. As I said in an earlier post, I don''t want to send the diamond all over the country just to get estimates for the setting.

Since kaleigh had highly recommended Pete at Quest, she very kindly offered to talk to Pete to clear misundestandings; then , it will be in my hands.

Don''t worry about my being able to tell Pete exactly what I want. I''m quite outspoken, maybe too outspoken, and kaleigh being the diplomat that she is, offered to talk to Pete before I did again to "smooth the way" for me.

Kaleigh has been a great help to me during this process and I trust her instincts completely.

isaku...what you said here underscored my actual point up above...no one should have to talk to pete to 'smooth the way' for you. if you and pete cannot find the best way to work together to suit everyone involved, then i would sugguest not to continue on with quest for this project. i wouldn't want anyone else having to speak for me because the vendor and i couldn't come to a meeting of minds on our own. it doesn't mean anything negative on either person's part (personally i don't think you should have to send your stone off for a quote; and i also don't understand the whole fluor sidestone thing either)...BUT sometimes vendors and clients just do not mesh well together...we see it on here from time to time, aka i'm not sure i could ever work with leon mege because we'd probably have personality clashes...no big deal...i love his work but not sure i could sit on my tongue long enough to have him create anything for me!

anyway to me it just does not bode well for the project if before it even gets started, you and pete cannot come to a meeting of minds and others have to get involved. my crystal custom piece ball is cloudy!

hope i am wrong though...it's been known to happen.

Because of the way the stones are going to be placed around it, he needs exact measurements so he can give you a correct quote and not be way off himself.

That''s what I thought ... I could see how quoting Isuku''s project would be diff than yours, Kaleigh - ''cause of the baquettes or traps having to be custom cut ... as opposed to round pave-style stones that they need a certain pre-cut size or number of them.

It looks deceptively simple & similar to pave halos -- but it''s actually a ton more work/time/cost. I heard Leon Mege doesn''t even want to do them anymore.

I was considering a similar style myself early in my search ... only I wanted baquettes around the perimiter of the halo sides as well. Can you say, T-R-O-U-B-L-E? Then I looked at a Daniel K knockoff at DBOF (where Tierhog got his asscher). Looked Viva Las Vegas/masculine - though HUGE. Finally dropped the whole thing when I fell in love with Ol'' Stabby.

Well, since it's not my setting that is going to be custom created by someone who told you one thing and Kaleigh another...it doesn't really matter if *I* am happy or not...

I''ve gotten a ballpark quote for the ring, but I''m going to wait till I see the pics of the stone before making any decision. I hope I get some pics soon, because Garry''s going to Las Vegas (that yrly jewelry trade show or something??) and he said that''ll probably be the place to get the stones for the halo setting.

Just out of curiosity, Isaku, are you getting 12 stones in your halo or 8? I didn''t even really thought about it until Garry asked me what I wanted.

The halo of the ring I have chosen has 12 traps.

I saw a Daniel K setting posted on Diamond Talk by DBOF. It''s a beauty too and again it has 12 traps or baguettes. I''m pretty sure you have to buy both the diamond and setting from DK or alter the setting by at least 20%.

Any news on your 2.47???

Jade: About the baguette matching... the jewelers I spoke to mentioned that too (all eighty of them)... that and the custom cutting of them is the reason why the price of these settings are so high. I personally like the look of eight for smaller asschers (like mine) and 12 for larger asschers. But that's just me.

I talked briefly with Pete at Quest today and sent him more pics including the top and profile of the Daniel K. I feel like a dope, JL, because the Daniel K pics I sent were basically the same DK ring that you had brought to my attention as a comparison to the Gypsy/Irina collaboration. Duh...

Are you able to work?

The centre asscher in that DK ring is 1.24c. and the baguettes are .81ctw.

The only clarifications that kaleigh got from Pete were that the fluoresence was not a big deal and that he needed my asscher to measure for the custom cut traps and then provide a quote - a very labour intensive setting as you had mentioned.

I talked to Pete today and sent more pics.

I''m sure you''ll be able to make enough modifications to it in order not to infringe on the copyright. Personally, I don''t like the sides of the DK ring, I think a single trap will look better!

I was asked a sorta unexpected question when I spoke to G about the setting. I think it''s because I have a reputation for being fussy with my custom work

I was asked if I wanted a ring made in ''saleable quality'' or ''exhibition quality''. Strange - I thought a ring should be made to the best quality one can provide? I think it is because of the intricate attention to detail needed for making this ring. Everything would be handmade (by this jeweller), so I won''t see any wax castings for pre-approval. I was asked if I can be charged for additional costs if something goes wrong and the ring has to be remade.

I am a tad wary of this, because I won''t be able to see a model of sort before the ring is made. What do you think? I have faith that they can make a gorgeous ring, but I think we all know that Pricescopers are a little bit more particular about quality than others

That choice of saleable quality vs. exhibition quality is a new one to me too.

I too am very, very picky- either do the setting perfectly, or don''t attempt it at all.

No CAD''s or waxes for pre-approval and additional costs "if something goes wrong" would make me extremely nervous.

Isaku, I have been bouncing around this, and do not know a lot about specs on asschers but BOY is the stone gorgeous and the baguette halo is MARVELOUS. So different from the pave and does mimic the stone as someone said. What an awesome RHR. What is your e ring like? This is a stunning additon I am sure.

Also, I just am putting in my .02...I think Kaleigh was sweet to offer to help, with you being in another country and having potential misinformation given to you, or confusing information, when this is such an important thing! I know you appreciate it, I am certainly not implying otherwise, just weighing in on how I took it, having gotten to know Kaleigh a bit more of late...I think she is sweet and helpful and that''s all it was about!

Good luck and I cannot wait to see what you decide, and I agree just doing the ring with tapered baguettes might look too engagement ring like...
