Any buyer's remorse for lower color e-rings?

If there were undertones in my diamond, I might miss them since I don't really know what I'm looking for. I actually posted some pics of it next to a D today in the thread here "WHY do people want whiter diamonds?" People are saying that there is really no difference between the D and I and one person said it was picking up environmental colour, but it looks like that in real life and the D wasn't picking up colour. The third pic down of the ring on its own is noticeably dark yellow to my eyes.

I think possibly you can see them and you just don't know it. I have a newish J that is currently driving me nuts. Stunning stone, everyone says it faces white, I am ambivalent about the undertones I see in it. I have a big L and it's very white facing. The colour mostly disappears. Both have a very different underlying body hue/tint or tone to them.

See if you can take a picture of your stones upside down against a white piece of paper folded in an L shape even if they are in a setting in day light in the shade or next to a window (so in natural daylight that is not in a darkened area but not in bright direct sunlight either) so we can see the actual body colour a bit better. It was difficult to tell anything in the pics in the other thread. Even if the pics don't work have a good look yourself against the white paper you should be able to see if the predominant colour is brown, yellow, green, grey or something in between....

Size is less important than color, for me. My wife-to-be has a friend with a J-colored stone (GIA certed) and her friends have all talked about how 'yellow' it is. Suffice it to say, the friend with the J is not a happy camper.

I-color and lower stones look too tinted to my eyes, particularly if a side-view can be seen from the setting.

For a necklace/pendant, I can stand G/H stones, but some H stones even have too much tint, for my taste. I can also handle lower colors in older/antique cuts.

For my personal MRB buying, the premium for E/F stones is ALWAYS worth it.

That said, one of the first questions I ask ppl in RT when they are asking about color is this: "does your social circle know anything about diamonds or have pre-conceived ideas about the importance of color?" If the answer is yes, then it is often the best choice to buy a less tinted diamond.

Really? Why? I mean, if you don't like the colour, you don't like it! If someone said they didn't like a diamond's tint, I'd assume they meant...well, just that!

The OP did not say that his wife was not fond of diamond tint. He said something quite different.

I think its rude to talk about a friend's diamond behind their back in a disparaging way, personally, and the use of the term "yellow" in that context by people who are not diamond experts is just that IMO. But some social circles will trash talk one another because they are mean or petty people, or because they grew up in a culture where women try to undermine one another. Those are possible explanations for such behavior, other than personal subjective preference.

On the other hand, I have happily sacrificed size for an icier colour. I love to know that I'm wearing the colours my heart desires, and I couldn't care less what others think of the size. If it looks small to some, I really don't mind. I mentally hug my icy colours to my chest and I really enjoy them. Guess you could say I feel strongly about colour! Don't care so much about clarity or size (as long as the diamond is eyeclean).

Ha ha, I know! My dream diamond is a 2-2.5 carat D colour VS1 Brian Gavin Signature super-ideal modern round brilliant. If I were a multi-millionaire, that's what I'd get - not a 5- or 6-carater.

Umm. 2 - 2.5ct is a big diamond!

My point is not that everyone desires a large diamond. My point is that in day to day life, other people are only going to really notice size -- and cut quality as well, but that is a constant for PSers. My comment had nothing to do with one's own preferences.

Someone posted a beautiful large K in the Show Me forum. I showed my son because I thought it was stunning and his response? "What the heck color is that, it's so yellow. Ugly". I thought the picture looked pretty white to me. I find diamonds so beautiful and love them so much that I forget the average person just sees size and color when they look at a ring. Now, I would still buy what I love but if a person cares even a smidge about what others think, a lower color diamond would make them unhappy in the long run, sadly.

Sure they may be talking behind my back but all I ever hear is about how sparkly it is, if its real. I'm helping a friend of mine with picking an e ring. He's the only one who's made mention of either of my stones being too tinted (for his taste), and it was only the lower marquise. To be honest he wasn't rude and it didn't bother me. As I love that little chameleon and I don't mind if people don't "get it " haha

Plus mine isn't that large.

But regardless I thought the point was to spend thousands of dollars on what you love, right?
