I think you need to determine four things: do you like the diameter size, color, crown angle and price?
What is your minimum diameter preference, is this stone ‘the big enough look’ you want? Don’t buy a stone that isn’t the big enough look you want.
Do you care about color? Are you one of those people in which tint bothers you? Like, have you ever had a G color stone that bothered you because it looked yellow? That’s a sign that you are color sensitive. In an old cut, L is the color grade that for me can be very amazingly white in some conditions, or it can have an underlying tone that takes it to another color vibe. If you are not color sensitive, then this stone is a go. You should ask for photos in natural light, sunlight, etc, before you see it in person, to see color in various lighting. L is a pretty nice find in an old cut, IMO.
Do you have a Pinterest or instagram screen shots of stones you love? Do you love puffy bubbly OMCs or fluffy OECs or are you gravitating towards old mine cushions or Transitionals. Do you have any diamond rings here on PS that you admire? Think about what you are drawn to. Like Missy, i love puffy crowns and three dimensionality. You need to see a photo or two of this diamond’s profile actually ask for several because a crown can look puffy from certain angles. Get the vendor to estimate crown angle and pavilion angle before you see it in person. If you are okay with what looks like a gorgeous cut that could be enough.
And price. Is it a comfortable, expected price?. Keep in mind the setting will add to the cost of a diamond and this diamond includes setting in price presumably. This setting looks pretty and ready to go, but the baguettes are quite long so see if it can be sized to your finger eventually. Don’t size it before you see it, because then you can’t return it.
Those are my thoughts to get you thinking your way out of analysis paralysis.
I would say yes because old cuts are usually a matter of minimum preferred size and then whatever faceting makes your heart sing. I did a comparison of this one's diameter compared to a 10mm stone on a size 6 finger if that helps at all. I think you would only see a difference if you were directly comparing. Otherwise it just looks like a lot of lovely coverage. Don't get hung up on MRB diameter expectations for OECs. They're not directly comparable and they'll make you feel like you're losing out if you use them to determine spread and value for money when you're not.Is there such thing of sacrificing mm for gorgeous facets?
Thanks for giving me these food for thoughts.
I am not so much sold on the diameter but this maybe just me being misinformed. I thought that 3 ct equals to 10 mm. Then I found OEC may look smaller than their weight. Every 3 ct that I see, they are not 10 mm unless they are shallow cut which I don’t like.
I don’t have any issue with the color. I don’t have enough knowledge about the crown angle in order to render an opinion.
Still thinking about it.
Where did you get the idea that 3ct is 10mm? Even a 3ct MRB wouldn't have that diameter (~9.3mm max). My 3.78ct w/ 46% table and 64% depth is 9.9mm. Any shallower and she'd probably not be so nice.
What you need to do is ask him if you can meet him somewhere and look at the stone, evaluate it in shop lighting by a window if possible in natural lighting. Numbers don't matter you need to see if you love it in person. If you do it's the right stone if not then keep looking.
Even better if you can make an appointment and go to his shop and compare it to other stones and rings he has in there.
Yes I would love to visit his store. That’s such a great idea. Especially now that I have masks and gloves. It would be great to be able to get out of the house too.
However, I am immuno compromised. I can’t, even though I want to, hang out at someone’s store.
I am going to ask him for ideas to see the stone inspite of these challenges.
I hope that you can figure out a way that works for both of you, because that looks like an amazing stone!![]()
Alex DOES accept returns!!
Funny so many of us came to alert you that 3.15 is avail again!
This looks pretty awesome!!!Wow that is beautiful stone. Hmmm...
I was having one of my Sjogrens’ flares today. Ugh... feeling like being crush under something.
Heard from Larry. No pressure he said whenever I’m ready. Such a sweet person. He sent me a video of a bigger OEC. It makes me happy when someone actually sends me a diamond video without me having to ask for it.
What do you think of this one? It’s bigger than what I had in mind originally.

It really is an amazing diamond. The N color makes me nervous in a stone that size though.
I would not buy that 4+ ct. It is really shallow and I don't think it would impress you in person.
I am the last person who would talk you out of an N! I got my 3.51ct N oec from Alex. I LOVE it. I was not sure what to expect when I bought it. He said he thought it was an L until GIA graded it. His pics looked tinted so I wasn't sure what it would look like in hand. But one look and I was sold. Most of the time it looks pretty white to me, but I'm not someone who likes icy white diamonds anyway. If he's saying that 3.15 faces up whiter, I would trust him.
Not to overwhelm you with pics, but I want you to see an N in different lighting. First pic is with my hand on a white notebook:![]()

Color me confuse
Which one should I go for?
The 3.22 L color OEC or 3.15 Parks’ OEC which has N color.
