An OEC sight unseen - possible?

It's pretty! Can you return it if you don't like it IRL? I like that it's already set. No waiting for a custom setting!

@soxfan @Starfacet Thank you for replying. My eyes are sore from looking at this over and over again. The vendor is a local jeweler here in LA. He is very sweet and kind. He sent me two videos. I’ll try and post them here.

I really love the facet pattern. If you can return it, I would give this one a go. Gorgeous!

Does he have good feedback? I bought both of my OEC's sight unseen from Erica at LAD just based on videos. This one looks amazing.

should I take this into consideration?

I’m not sure if any psers have dealt with him in the past. He owns a jewelry store in the grove in LA.

I don't think so. Most OECs are cut deeper and therefore have smaller diameters than MRBs. My AVR always got the "too deep" and "small for its size" warnings when I put in the specs on diamdb. My 1.64 CBI is larger in diameter than my 1.72 AVR was.

The facet pattern is gorgeous! The only concern I would have is if the crown and pavilion angles are cut to give you good light return. A shallow crown with a deep pavilion might make the stone seem a little dull in normal lighting.

I would ask to see a profile view of the stone, and also ask the vendor to give you his estimate of the crown and pavilion angles.

To answer, the cut is beautiful. Very nice, looks like somewhat of a Transitional cut to me.

According to the blurb you posted about it having the same diameter as an avg. 2.98 carat MRB: It may be carrying weight in the pavilion, not the crown from what i see in profile. Do you care about puffy crowns? I would ask to see a couple shots of the profile. Make sure that’s the type of crown you like. Make sure it’s the size you want.

To add to what prs says above, shallower crown angles can sometimes reflect more white light than fire. I see a pretty lively stone in those videos though. You should see it in person.

The other thing you want to be sure of is the color, sometimes Ls can be very white, sometimes orangey brown or green. You want to be sure you like the underlying tone.

I would estimate price according to a 2.98 L and see if it falls in line with that.

It's gorgeous! Can't you meet up to have a look at the ring? Since, he's willing to deliver maybe you can meet halfway to have a look at it.

I'd meet up to review it or request a return period. It's too pretty not to view it in person and also it should be expensive enough that a return period would be eminently reasonable.
Is the ring your size? ie could you wear it immediately?

I think it’s gorgeous! Do it, do it!

It’s a beautiful facet pattern. I agree I’d want to see it in person. I am one who needs a puffy crown but there’s no right or wrong. It’s what you love.

It’s a gorgeous facet pattern! It appears to be very well cut, table/depth makes it closer to a transitional.

If you can return it, yes!! It looks beautiful!!
If you can't return it - too risky for me personally, but I'm generally conservative about this sort of thing.

Most jewellery service providers - including appraisers - are currently not working, which means that you'll have to vet the stone yourself:
A) Does the stone match the report?
B) Does current condition of the stone match condition described in the report?

My two questions would be
1. Do you have all the tools you'll need to do this, and
2. Are you confident in your assessment?
At minimum you'll need a good 10x loupe and an accurate set of calipers. You'll probably also want a gem scale, some comparison stones for colour reference, and for this particular stone perhaps higher magnification (the girdle is inscribed, but it's knife edge to very thin - the inscription font is going to be very small)...

I'm not an expert, but it looks breathtaking! :kiss2:

It looks so beautiful! I think @yssie is right. Do it if you can return it!
