I got engaged 26 years ago, I had a very tiny band of rubies and diamonds, then 1 year later I got a tiny .18 diamond, it is a sparkly little thing, I wore that for almost 18 years, then I upgraded to a 1.01 ct princess cut, we were really poor and in love when we got engaged, I just loved that little band and of course after we had been together 20 years finances allowed me to have a bigger diamond...I would love to have another new one around a 1.5 round...but it will never happen.....

I got engaged on my 27th birthday and received a .24 ct. round diamond solitaire. My mom recently reminded me that when I got engaged, I told her my diamond was small! For my 17th anniversary, I treated myself to a 1.05 ct. Jubliee set into a platinum Tacori wedding set.

We got engaged a couple months ago. We are both 27. My diamond is 1.94 carats.

Hi, I was 21 years old, hubby was 22, and he got me a 1ct in white gold...then upgraded to a better diamond (because my other one had a chip in it), so upgraded to an F color from an I and from an I1 clarity to an SI1...added the sapphires this year

I was 26 and we''d been together eight years when we got my 1.35 ct. We waited to get engaged for a long time so we were able to pay cash for it.

Me:21
Him:31

0.59ct Princess D VVS2. I wanted high colour and clarity over size.

Me: 20
Him: 27

.83, E, VS2 cushion cut centre stone. .46 melee all E, VS as well

I got engaged at 20 and got a .25. At 25 I got a .75 with a setting that had about .50 of stones. At 48 got a 1.7,traded it up at 49 for a 2.57.

Wow, there are some lucky women out there who started out with mighty big rocks! Hurrah for you girls!!!!

My daughter got engaged at 24 and got a 1 ct. stone. I thought that was pretty big!

I told my husband he couldn''t afford what I wanted yet so I''d wait - I didn''t even get a chip! lol I waited 15 years then bought a stone that would last the rest of my life.

Me: 27
FI: 28 (proposed the day before his 29th b-day)

1.54 carat, E, VS1

We were 22 and both students when we got engaged. My diamond is a 1.1 cts and the setting was platinum. For our fifth we reset the diamond in a platinum James Meyer setting. He spent all the money he has to get me the biggest stone he could afford. So sweet!

I was 24 he was 28 when we were engaged.
I have a 2 ct sapphire in a pave setting (my ring looks more expensive than it was

I was 32 when I got engaged, and my FI was 31.

We went a less traditional route and bought a 2.3 carat eternity band (each stone 10 points). While this was the look I loved for myself anyway, part of the reason was that it was a cost effective alternative to a diamond. I think with our budget, the diamond (for a solitaire) would have been around .75 carats.

I myself am pretty baffled at some of the sizes of the rings around here - but I LOVE looking at them!!!!

My fiance and I got engaged this year, I am 23 and he is 22. He found a loose 3.28 ct. sapphire on ebay, and I am a jewelry major and always have loose stones, and I happened to have 2, 4mm white topazes. The sapphire is my fiance''s birthstone and the topazes are my birthstones. One day after he got the sapphire, he took the topazes from my stash and went to James Meyer where he had a beautiful setting created out of 18k white gold and platinum. We got engaged July 11, of this year. I am so happy with my ring!

It''s funny - I was talking to friends yesterday and she was saying that even if I''d gotten a smaller diamond when we got married I''d have wanted a bigger one by now and I was like I don''t think so... I obsessed about NOT having one for so long that when I did have the opportunity I thought okay this is my ONE chance... what is my lifetime diamond value? lol She thought that was funny... lifetime diamond value. But I think I nailed it. I don''t get DSS and I have a size that makes up for lost time and doesn''t really need upgrading, ever.

BTW we were 19 and 21 when we got married and engaged 18 years ago.

I was 24, he was 25.

I was 31 and he was 27 when we got engaged, but we didn''t pay anything for my current ring because it is an heirloom ring. We will save up in a couple of years to get my ring; we''re only using the heirloom because, as an international couple, we have some additional wedding costs and didn''t want to wait to get married.

Not that my ring is big and would''ve made you wonder how we could afford it anyway--it about half a carat.

I was 21, he was 30. It is a 2.35 RB G VS2. He picked it all by himself and did an excellent job. Its so cute when he talks about it with his guy friends who aren''t engaged- they look at him like he has horns or something, but he is really proud of his research.

I got engaged with a .75 J VS2 HOF stone with .15 of channel set diamonds in platinum.
He was 27, I was 29.

My Engagement Ring 003a.jpg

I was 26 and my DH was 27 when he proposed. At that point, we were dating for 6 years!
He proposed to me using an heirloom ring, which is .33 carats with 2 .25 sidestones. It is beautiful and very meaningful to me.
For our fifth anniversary (8 months yay!), I will be upgrading to about 1.1 - 1.25 depending on what I find out there...

At the time we were ready to marry, it was more important to take that next step than to have the perfect ring for me. I consider myself so very fortunate to have married my true love and best friend.

My first "e-ring" I bought myself at the age of 28. Fell in love with it at a jewelry store, I was there with my sister-in-law who was having a necklace repaired. I was going to be married in a few months to my long-time BF, but knew I would never find another like it, so purchased it myself. $1500 Baileys Banks & Biddle plat/diamond Art Deco repro. I still love it, and since I bought it myself, I can still wear it (although I did have to send it to my jewelry box for a while).

Age 34:
Divorced for a year, and left finger feeling bare. Bought myself a 7mm vintage plat/diamond Tiffany eternity band band as a "replacement" ring.

Age 35:
Surprise! Met a perfect e-ring with the man to match. The ring is modest, but I love it. I think he''s almost disappointed I didn''t get something "bigger", but subscribes to the "as long as she''s happy" school of thought.

I told him that even if he slipped a recycled rubber tyre on my finger I would be absolutely thrilled and would wear it forever.

:)
