31 when engaged. He is 39.

Engagement Ring is 1.4K (D) Princess Cut with .50 side rounds in a milgrain setting, WG

It is a perfect size for me. He is successful in what he does therefore, able to afford the ring in cash.

I was 22, he was 27, STONE: 1.21 I VVS2 square emerald(asscher cut) SETTING: .88 H VS2 4 prong micropave eternity 18k white gold.

he said he started saving the day he met me, so he saved for 2 years put it on his credit card and paid it off.

He said we can upgrade for an anniversary.. but Im just fine with it(he has the asscher shrinkage problem, high carat weight, but its a well cut stone so it doesnt look as big as a 1.21 round)...i doubt ill ever upgrade, i love my ring and its perfect for my hand...i absolutely love asschers, i couldnt care what the size!!

My husband and I were in college when we got engaged- or actually i had just (days earlier) graduated. So we were both 21. We were also pretty broke since neither of us had jobs but I still got a .76 D VS engagement ring with .50 G VS diamond on the side. I''m happy with my .75 center diamond but we plan on upgrading on our 5 year anniversary. I will probably upgrade over 1.50 ct for the center. Now our budget has more room since we both work :)

Hello! My Fiance and I are both 24 years old and have dated for almost 8 yrs. Our 8 yr anniversary is next month. He proposed on May 23, 2009 in Charleston, SC. It was perfect and very long awaited! He had been saving for a VERYYY long time. It was important for us both that I have a perfect ring, and he wasn''t going to propose until he could give it to me. Sigh.....he''s the best! He ended up designing my ring with a designer in Atlanta, GA. It is a 2.28 G VVS1 center stone and has four small diamonds around it at .40 tw. So my e-rings total weight is 2.68 carats. I really love it. It''s funny actually since our 8 yr anniversary is coming up, my fiance was thinking about upgrading my center stone to a little over 3 carats. Our designer is the MAN! Lol-he contacted my df and told him about a new diamond he recentley got in stock and asked if he was interested. I''m not sure if I wanna go bigger though, I already have people asking if it''s real or not.

I can never get over how rude that is. Anyway, I''ve attached a pic for reference. Hope you like it!

Fun thread!

We were poor as church mice

when we got engaged right out of high school!

(No money = no diamond; I wore my mother's tri-color gold wedding band for MANY years!)

But thankfully, DH and I had fun and worked hard... bought a house, made a home, raised (and educated) two kids, and finally I felt like we were in a position to get the diamond I always dreamed of. It was a beautiful AGS-0 1.53 RB that was perfect except that it kept shrinking right before my eyes!

So a few years ago, I upgraded to (another) AGS-0, this time a 2.36 RB. And would I go bigger again if I could? You betcha! I have EARNED it!

Him: 26
Me: 23

I got engaged with a 5 stone 0.14ct total weight titanium ring. He had a matching ring with no diamonds. We designed it together. FI did not think diamonds were important and he was so set against going with the norm, and he also wanted our rings to ''match'', which really limited my choices. He also gave me a very very small budget to work with, and needless to say, that had a big impact on my ring design. I tried to be happy with it, since rings were just material possessions. But I was very unhappy inside and whenever I told someone about our engagement, all that came out was how I had to compromise and that one day after we get married, I would be able to get a larger diamond.
Of course, I still went ''online window shopping'' and shortly discovered a lovely 0.52ct square emerald (asscher) in my price range and I told FI that I would buy it myself, and I did. I begged him for a setting though, and he caved and paid for my solitaire setting (mind you it was the cheapest available). He''s not a penny pinching guy, nor is he poor, but he would rather buy me lots of stuffed animals (I have more than enough of stuffed toys - they''re overflowing out of the cupboards). But with jewellery, he absolutely detests buying me anything he considers expensive. Anyway, I consider the asscher as my upgrade, and I still wear my original e-ring on my right hand.

I think I am the baby on here. My husband and I were engaged when I was 17 (he was 20!), married when I was 18. I wore a 1/3 carat princess cut diamond, then at the 5 year ann I upgraded to a .53 D SI1 princess cut in the same setting and now, at the 8-1/2 year mark I am moving to a 2 carat solitare! I had 4 kids in a 5 year span so I deserve it, right? LOL!

I'm 19, FF is (almost) 21 and we got engaged on Saturday. My ering is a GIA cert. .81 carat (VVS2, I, EX/EX) Round Brilliant in a custom rose gold setting. We picked it out together.
He saves most of his money and has been working full time since he was 15 (he was home schooled). He paid for the diamond in three payments, and six months later when we decided on a setting he paid that off in 2.

I love my ring! I wouldn't DREAM of upgrading!

we were 21 when we got engaged and I got a 1 ct. F SI2 (although at the time diamonds were mostly uncertified, so you were buying with your eyes only!).

I wanted a new ring for our 30th anniversary, and I found PS. I ended up with a 1.63 H VS1 H&A from GOG. I love the stone, but I still think about trading it for one of the new OMC cushions that Jon is having cut! I will say that most people around me are not wearing stones over a carat, so I do wish I had stuck to my original plan of finding a 1.4 ct. stone. But there is a lot of influence around here to get bigger stones, that''s for sure!

Our daughter (24) is close to getting engaged and she''ll likely get about a carat.

We were engaged when I was 18 and FI was 23.

My ring has a tcw of 1.50cts, the centre stone is roughly 0.75cts

I was about 30 years old when we decide to buy a 0.41 carat , F, VS1 (IGI cert)... At that time, I did not know much about diamond and bought this stone in a jewellery fair together with a ruby bracelet (aboug 6 stones of ruby).
Though today I thought the stone is ugly,,, it has sentimental value to me.. at least it was my first diamond. What i intend to do is to make a colour stone bracelet end of this year and take out the stone from the ring and put it together with other colour stones in the bracelet.. At least with the other stones, the full focus will not be on that diamond.
