diamondseeker2006- I wasn''t saying I thought he should use one of those rings. I was just trying to show him some ideas. Sorry

Also, the middle ring has the swoopy thing. Oh, and I like the one that aphisiglovessae posted!! It would look gorgeous with a tulip setting.

Oh ya! the Abazias ring has a matching curvy band! I didn''t even notice that!! It''s simple, clean, and curvy! And VERY AFFORDABLE!

Good luck in finding the ring you and your GF will love!

Aph and QT,

Yeah. That''s the cupping thing. Waves, whatever they''re called. She''s been drawn to that whole thing. BUT, I really think she''ll LOVE the tulip thing. I wonder if they can incorporate the two?

Also, do tulip "heads" come only on wider bands? Because she prefers thin bands. I''m so excited to get to a store to see a tulip in person, on her pretty hand.

I''m tempted to call her up, tell her to get online, and then send her a picture of the A(what were the rest of the letters in that name?) web site, because that ring looks SO like her! Simple, pretty, and a tulip to boot!

Who''d have known they made a ring based on her flower? :)

Would a tulip setting have to have a band that interlocks, or matches? I know she likes that, but now I''m envisioning one of those eternity bands I learned about earlier tonight with it, and it like the way that seems...

But, I must also ask, in your opinions, is this a "typical" ring? I do not want her let down!

She prefers clean, smooth lines. Simple. By ''swooping,'' I mean when the band and the engagement ring fit together, by one dipping downward, and the other curling upward.

Part of why she likes the swooping thing is because it reminds her of waves on the beach, her favorite place.)

Is this something what you are thinking about? These do have very clean lines, and reminds me of waves.

Now I'm tempted to get her to a mall this weekend, so I can just 'happen' upon a tulip setting for her to try on. If she gives the 'wow' factor, I'll know that's the one! Any clues where I can find a mall store that carries such?

I'm not sure mall stores are going to have that specific tulip head ring ... they tend to have super basics & their own version of "unique".

Have you considered buying the stone & setting online?

ETA: Ms Darling Joy ... I was thinking of one like that too! Is that the Japanese brand?

or this one ...

or this flower one ...

Hi Deco ... Yes, these are from the Niwaka line ... they are so yummy, and they are designed to fit diamonds around .50 at the biggest I believe.

and another ...

No, I would not get that matching band. You could definitely get a simple diamond wedding band to go with that tulip ring. Choo Choo and I both posted the direct link to that ring on the Abazias site above if you want to send the link to your GF. I would not get a full eternity band due to the fact that most girls will have some fluctuation in ring size over their lifetime, and the full eternity bands with diamonds all the way around cannot usually be sized. You can get them with diamonds half way or 3/4 of the way around.

I''d not want to vary from what I KNOW she likes, which is the wavy, curly stuff (thanks Darlin for those pictures!), without seeing the tulip in person, on her hand, and especially, her reaction. I''ll know the one that takes her breath away when her eyes light up.

If malls don''t carry it, is there any way I can take her to a place to see them, at all? I''d hate to buy something that I''ve only seen online.

I''m almost, dare I say, giddy over this whole tulip thing. I had NO idea... and I just think it''s so awesome that someone decided to make a ring based on her favorite flower. She can be in a horrible, rotten, awful mood (not that it happens often, she''s a great girl), but when she sees a tulip, her mood changes. She just loves them!

We have been to a smaller jeweler here in town, and they have a stuller book, I think it''s called. I wonder if they have a tulip setting? Or maybe the jewelist (is that what they''re called??) has that sort of head to drop in.. she was dropping in bezels, so maybe dropping tulips works in the same way....

Wow, you are SO cute! I''m not sure where you can find the tulip setting in person. I doubt the major jewelry chains you find in the mall would have them. Try a designer jeweler in town that also does custom jewelry.

I found a Stuller book online... they say they have "tulipset heads." But when I clicked on that, nothing came up. At least I think they have them, based on them being listed. IF the jeweler can get them in, and I call in advance, then she can "just happen to have one around" next time we''re in town. Then she can sort of just put it in a setting, and maybe my girl will be in love with it, and then I''ll know! :)

I really like the Stuller thing; you can just glance around in a book, say, "I like this, and this, but without this, and with this instead." And the jewelist lady says to come back in a couple of days, she''ll have it put together (although it is with blue gum-like putty) and we can look it over, and move on...

Does Stuller make good stuff, in general?

I think it would be easier to put a tulip head on the ring that aphisig poster than some of the others because it already has a head that could be taken off, while the others are more bezel like, which could be harder to adapt. This is the one aphisig posted.

Stuller actually makes a mounting w/ band that "fits" together called Tulipset. Go to www.stuller.com and do a search for tulipset.

Hey no problem for the pics ... I was trying to figure out what you meant by wavy, curly ... I didn''t really know, but when you said "waves" ... I thought Hmmm... I wonder if this might work.

Re: the tulip head ... you need to be careful. Not all tulip heads are durably made. I do believe stuller does make one, and I think Ingwer does as well, and I know that most jewelry stores have catalogs that have quite a few different kinds of tulips heads that they can mount onto a band, most of them are called peg heads ... again, some are manufactured better than others. I did just recently see a tulip style head in a catalog at a mall jewelers, and it have engraving on the head ... looked viney, but the jeweler there said that he wouldn''t recomend most tulips heads as they aren''t that sturdy ... that''s what he said anyway.

Out of all of the tulips head design rings that I have seen so far, the Abazia one looks the best, doesn''t look flimsy ... if that is the way you go.

Best wishes on your search! You sound too cute!

And now for something completly different...

while it's not smooth and curvy... it is very tulipy. (Tulips are also my favorite flowers)

What's her favorite color of tulip, you could put a pink, or yellow, or blue sapphire as the center.

And for unusual but coming in under budget there's these two
this one would look bigger because of the platinum bezel.

And this one looks sleek and will also look a bit bigger than a 1/3 carat because of the setting.

Just wanted to throw out some alternative ideas.

ETA: Oh yes I knew I was forgetting a link:
Here's one like the tulip head style for. But she wants white only, right?

hi! Sounds like you''re well on your way, and very thoughtful.
Just wanted to put in another vote for the stuller solstice setting. Check out Patty''s. It''s a little different from the average tiffany style, still very affordable in WG, fluid, and really classy. I like it a lot better than the stuller tulip set, but the "tulip" would have that special significance for your girl...

I also thought of another idea ...

You could get the abazia ring ... and you could have the band part engraved with viney, swirly, floral motif that was very delicate. I know I have seen something like this, it was either at tradeshop, or ringdesigner, anyone remember something like that?

You could also get a plain band that had scattered tiny diamonds on it, and add engraving to it too?

I''ll see if I can find a picture, or if anyone else finds one, lets post it.

Here''s a picture of the stuller tulip set with a round diamond:

Wren, I like that, and the idea of putting a violet stone in it, too. (I refer to the picture you posted.) I''ll have to remember that for a birthday present some day...

The tulip set, with one of those bands that has like 7 diamonds along the front of it, and dips down a little just for the stone setting, would that look pretty together?

I''m partial to the Abiadias (or something like that, my mind keeps freezing on that brand name) set myself, but I suspect a Stuller would be less expensive, and would be what I''d be able to see at the store in town. At any rate, I will call the jewelist lady and ask her to order one to look at.

I am concerned about the setting not being a good one, though. Has anyone else heard that they don''t hold a diamond well? I thought, just by looking at the structure of it, that it would be stronger and more "sturdy" than an average 4 prong... they seem to be, what 3x as wide in the midponit?

I don''t think all tulip set heads are not of good quality ... I just was told that most aren''t. I don''t know if that is a good statement or not, as I am not a professional, or an expert on tulip set heads. I wonder if a professional might chime in here.

I think that some manufacturers might skimp on metal, or maybe the soldering of the design might not be up to snuff on some of the makes, again, I would ask the jeweler about quality and the different types of tulip set heads.

Here is an example of one of the designs that I was thinking about ... I think the abazia ring would look so cool with a tulip engraving ... or have the wedding ring with tulip engraving.

The possibilities are endless! Here is the pic ...

I don''t see how Stuller could be less than the Abazias at $195. I know Good Old Gold carries Stuller, so I am sure they are quality settings or Jonathan wouldn''t carry them.

Well, if Abazias is sold somewhere that I can see other than online, I will definitely look at that! I like the way it''s set up SO much, but I want to see how wide the band is. She likes thin. It looks like it may be thick. She may like thick, if it means a tulip head goes along with it. :)

Is Abazias sold in jewelry stores?

I don''t know where you are but Abazias does have a store in Gainesville, FL that you can look at thier settings in.

This is a setting she likes a lot, from what I can gather. It has a "slight" wave to it, and it has cathedral sides, which she thinks is going to keep the diamond more safe. And the wedding band fits into it. The ring is Stuller, and comes without a head. Can a tulip be put in it, you think? Or would that be too much, since it has the cathedral part?

the set.jpg

From the side (this is the part that makes it not "typical" in her eyes):

Would it be too busy with a tulip setting?

There are so many gorgeous rings in this thread! I am completely in love with the ones Mrs Joy posted, I have been ever since I first saw the line.

I also like the Stuller Tulip set a lot.

Thanks, all. I like the tulip look, and I think she would, too. I''m going to try to see if I can find something that does the whole curling thing and tulip thing, too. That''d be awesome. When I look at the tulip setting, I can almost see my girl smiliing down at it, fluttering her fingers around to see it from different angles. Yeah, she''d like it.

Hi there! Welcome to PS! I saw that your GF likes tulips and have another idea for you. I have been everywhere online looking for wedding bands for me and my Fiance'' so things that are unique are of course catching my eye. I remembered a site I looked at that had a tulip setting and a wedding band to match: http://www.abazias.com/. They are both inexpensive in white gold. Check it out and good luck!
