About ready to buy an engagement ring

@whyviet the asset of the 2.8 is pretty good! There is a little bit of leakage around the table, but I still think that it will be a beautiful diamond! It is larger than the 2.5 which is something to take into consideration. But the 2.5 is an I color, so it will face up a bit whiter, I don’t think that it will be a significant color difference however.

Something else, I also remembered about CERs and here are two possible ones that fit the budget. One is warm and under budget -https://www.victorcanera.com/diamonds/vkztz9-2.007-k-vs1-ideal-antique-cushion
The other one stretches the budget, but it is a larger and whiter diamond: https://www.victorcanera.com/diamonds/t8dhpc-2.218-i-vs2-ideal-antique-cushion
I am kind of in love with these two and VC can create the most exquisite settings for them!

Here is a recent thread by a fellow PSer with her CER in a halo created by VC: https://www.pricescope.com/communit...nera-antique-cushion-with-emilya-halo.235210/

Do you know what is the ring size of your SO?

That halo looks nice! She is a 6.

I'll check out those recommendations! I really appreciate the help.

@SimoneDi should I be concerned about the feathers/imperfections inside of those diamonds @ VC?

No, I would not be, it is still a VS2 clarity. If you save the picture and zoom out you will have hard time seeing any of the inclusions. You can also reach out to VC for their honest feedback.
I also love this diamond https://www.victorcanera.com/diamonds/55416k-2.017-h-vs2-ideal-antique-cushion but it is really pushing the budget and I would make sure that you have enough left for a settig with VC. You will get 10% off the setting when you purchase a diamond from them.

Btw, here is the size diff between the 2.8 J VS1 JA cushion (right) vs the 2.2 I VS2 CER (left)

Very exciting! Congratulations! It's very likely - if you're in a long-term serious relationship that she HAS been putting down some hints about what she likes. You just need to find them. Any dogeared magazines lying around on the coffee table? Any new bookmarks on her laptop, or yours? If you really can't find those clues, check out my style guide for ideas of what ring type she may like.

Sorry, I've been on vacation for 10 days -- so here I am again.

I really do like: https://www.victorcanera.com/diamonds/t8dhpc-2.218-i-vs2-ideal-antique-cushion

Here's my dilemma if I decide to let her choose her band post proposal:
- If I purchase the VC stone, putting it into a inexpensive solitaire is going to cost me anywhere from 300-800 from the local jewelers I've contacted.
- If I purchase a stone from JA, I can get a solitaire for a little more than half of that. I'll just have to settle with a stone that isn't a vintage cut.

Any inspiring advice?

Could you just purchase the VC stone, sans inexpensive setting? Then let her design the ring?

JA is actually now selling August Vintage cushions but there doesn't look like there are any that meet your criteria at the moment. These are the largest they have but you could contact Rhino to see if there's anything he has in the pipeline (https://www.augustvintageinc.net/):

I was thinking about that. I don't suppose you know if proposing with only a stone isn't unheard of? She's still unaware.

We recommend this for lots of people here when they aren't sure what kind of setting the wearer wants or when the other person wants to be involved. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. I don't know anyone personally who has done this or has had it done to them, but I think there's a romantic element in giving your SO a stunning stone and allowing her to create the ring of her dreams! She is the wearer afterall!

I don’t think proposing with a stone is the norm, but it isn’t unheard of. Some people inherit a stone they want to use, buy the stone bc it is a good price and time the proposal around a special date, or, like you, want their fiancé involved in the ring design and start that process right after the proposal instead of spending weeks on finding a stone.

I would have loved to have designed my ring. But I also would have wanted an actual ring to put on my finger. So maybe just buy the diamond and have it put in a temporary solitaire setting and then let her help design the ring. That way she has something to wear while she is contemplating what she wants long term.

VC should be able to get you a cheap stiller setting. I would not want the stone touched by multiple Jewelers before it goes to its forever setting.

Also, to your other question, I was proposed to without a rig because I wanted to pick my ring myself, so I didn’t really care about the presence of a ring per se and I would have been really excited about having a loose stone. Nonetheless, you should know your gf and my general recommendation would be to go for a cheap setting first.

Victor was able to do this for me. I'll have some pics for you guys as soon as I can get them.

I appreciate everyone's help and feedback!

Awesome! we cannot wait to see the pics!

Sorry for the delay -- I did not forget about you guys.

I could never get a good picture of the ring and it just got pushed further and further back -- anyhow, here it is and again, thank you so much for all the advice.

The rock is a 2.2 antique cushion from Victor Canera as well as the band.
