A little underwhelmed with initial setting

So Amy sent me pics of my traps cut down and in a temp setting. I’m a little underwhelmed!! Maybe it’s juat the temp or maybe my traps just don’t look good. I’m having major doubts if I even like the small traps with my diamond and the pave. I’m having her quote me tomorrow for the 5 stone. I need to get this right as I waited so long to find my EC! Question for you all... bezel or no bezel with a 5 stone?

This to me is stunning!!

I’m confused, is that your actual ring in the video? Looks pretty darn good to me.
But I feel that the end ones are sticking out, maybe it’s because I like my smooth. What about putting the bullets (? End ones) flush with the traps ie no bezel line between them, just all around the outside as one.
As for the eternity ring, yes please, that will look fab with MY ring.

I really like the ig ring. No. I really love it. Bezels and bullets and all. Is this your new inspiration pic?

I’m up obsessing! Yes this is my new direction as my precious goal was to just do small traps with pave band. But was underwhelmed. Then I saw this!!! And no it’s not mine:) My ring is the same width as this one l but a tad longer.. so actually bigger. I was debating on bezel or no bezel. But I love the dramatic taper of traps.

I didn’t realize I didn’t give my back story!! I currently have David making this ring for me. But got pics and it didn’t do it for me. 6E3E28B7-CED4-4C06-8A0D-D65E1235CA1C.png

I can tell you why, your centre diamond is too big!
Seriously, I think the prongs on EC / square shapes have to be flatter, they are sticking out too far. Me, I’d do smaller flat tabs not pointy.
And you need to up grade your sides, I’ll have those ones seeing as you won’t be needing them anymore.

I initially wanted smaller traps to show off my center stone as I had large ones before.... old setting. NOW I want more triangular tapered look... I think it will still show off center diamond. Here is the very rough cast from David... just changing my mind and driving everyone crazy! Plus I really want to add a baguette band

I think you are ready for a new look. Your cast looks very similar to your avatar. I think you are craving a different look. I love your new inspiration!

Just my opinion - but....

Definitely bezels on the sides - it's a much sleeker look. And yes, bullets. If you don't differentiate more solidly from your current ring, I think you'll feel like you haven't made much progress and will find the whole re-set process disappointing.

That first - Mark Broumand - setting is just breathtaking. Go for it, girl!

I love the bezel "art deco"ish look...I think you need something with more change than your original. While the ring doesnt look underwhelming to me*,
you have been wearing something very similar (slightly smaller). I think you need a bigger change to get your blood pumping!

I too prefer bezel sides.

But, if your current ring has step-cut sides, what about adding some brilliant cuts to give a fresh look to the design? DK can source brilliant cut traps. You can also consider french-cuts. Maybe that would give you the overall look, but with enough change to feel fresh.

This next idea would change your design, but you could also have the first "step" of the side-stones set with rounds in a bezel (2 or 3 rounds). That would give a larger first step. Then, add your existing traps. And a trillion or other pointish cut at the end. Its a really nice look and changing up the cut of the side stones also help is look different in terms of light return. I'm at work right now but can post an inspo later if this idea appeals.

Yes, bezel the sides. I also think that I lose the visual outline of your center stone because the cut of the traps are the same as the EC. It’s blending together. Love @rockysalamander idea of French cut traps if possible. If not, then brilliant cuts.

I am loving the MB IG inspiration ring with the bezel traps and bullets. It's stunning IMO and the eternity ring is a perfect compliment. I think you need the addition of the bullets.

Wow! Kind of a landslide for the bezel!! I am petite... size 4 finger and 5’2”... so do you think the bezel is too bulky for me? Just don’t want an overpowering look and my EC to stand out. That’s why I was looking at LM version I also linked above. Thank you all!!

I love the LM ring!! So sleek & clean, yet, so elegant. The prongs are tiny, but cradle the EC, traps & baguettes. I really love this ring!!!!
I love the proportion of your traps with your center EC.
So LM over IG inspiration?

I prefer the MB IG inspiration design.

Ditto bright ice...not if its done well...delicate. Be sure to stress.

Ok with my finger being a 4?? Not too much metal?
No. Its a tiny amount of metal and I think adds a lovely frame around the stones. Its really emphasizes the shape and will help it be more clearly different than your old setting.

My vote goes to delicate bezels! It will be gorgeous and create a different look from your current ring

Just spoke to Amy, wow she couldn’t be more lovely! I know there is a thread going around about David’s communication, I have commented on as well. I can honestly say, once you get a hold of them and your ring is in progress, communication is great and they are truly lovely to work with. She said we definitely can come up with a new inspiration for the ring and she suggested a little bit more of a delicate bezel, which I think would be perfect on my tiny finger. Now it’s all about getting these proportions to perfection. Thank you all so much for your input, and being patient with me. Anyone that is good with CADS or proportions, please chime in!

Hi, @Emeraldsaremyfavorite! Well, this is very exciting to see progress being made on your ring!!! So, this is an initial casting, minus the melee on the band...I think you're underwhelmed because you're seeing very little change from your old ring. But in fairness to the "Eva/Doucette" design, the finished ring will look considerably different and probably more exciting to you than this first draft once the melee are in place. That's when you'd see the biggest difference between your old ring and the new one.

But I think both of your new inspirations rings are also beautiful and you can't really go wrong with either one. My initial response to seeing the bezel set ring is that bezels tend to visually beef up the size of stones a bit, so if you go in that direction you might want to reconsider the size of the traps, proportionate to the overall ring and the bullets you'll be adding because they'll look bigger than they do now. Also, putting bezels around stones can limit the light that passes through them. I'm wondering how that will affect the color of the side stones next to your center stone. I'm sure that DK and Amy will advise you how your particular stones will look best.

I think you are leaning towards making a five-stone ring now, which, if you go with either of the inspo rings, might be just the change you're looking for! And, btw, I love the channel set baguette eternity band! I say, go for it!!! :)

Oh! And I forgot to add that the "Eva" ring has melee on the basket and prongs, too! That's something you're not seeing in the temporary setting. Hmmm...I still like the "Eva" ring, but either way you decide to go will be beautiful because you've chosen a gorgeous EC and any way you choose to dress her up will be stunning!!! :)

I love an open gallery. That’s just me. The more light that comes in, the more flash & sparkle that comes out.
I’m on the fence with bezels for this ring. You can see the difference of each shape in the LM ring, without the metal. I love how the traps are separated, just slightly, by thin bars from the baguettes. I love bead set diamonds, and would line the bars on each side with bead set diamonds, and call it a day.

@Blingalingaling and @Matthews1127 thanks so much for all your insight, and everyone else! I am changing to the five Stone, I think I was trying to make the most out of my previous traps and it just wasn’t giving me what I want. I am completely on the fence about the bezel, 50-50 at this point. I had no idea about less sparkle with a bezel, definitely something to think about! And this design with a baguette band, just does me in. I didn’t sleep last night over all of this, and it seems so extremely silly to lose sleep over a setting. I just need to make a decision and be done! Here is one with a cushion and delicate halo... just throwing it all out there!!

Hi! I know how exciting and stressful these decisions can be! But you are honing in your decision making now! You can catch up on your sleep later, lol!
You can wear the eternity band with either ring and it would be super-nice! I don't think you need to do a bezel set ER to sit a channel set eternity band next to it! But they do look great side by side, I agree!
The cushion cut ring is also very pretty. There's so much to choose from, it could make you crazy, right?? These are fun decisions, so enjoy the creative process! :)
