Thanks so much for the suggestions Helio and AJ. As for the baguettes - my BF is really not a fan of them, he mockingly calls them ''French bread'', so at best we will be able to use the little OECs for the sides.

Don''t take this the wrong way Helio - but I''m not sure how I feel about the triple prongs. Right now, the 6 and 8 prongs are more appealing to me.

If Singlestone doesn''t have an exact setting - which vendors could be trusted with making a custom setting? I''m in New York :).
And it''s certainly more secure for an OEC. Go for it!

Helio! DBF and I both love the WG/Platinum version of Angel777''s ring. Any idea where we could find it or who we could have recreate it for us?

Heyjudes - I am in Australia - so I am no expert on where to get this made or find this setting in NY

the split prongs need to be very delicate and executed just right

I am sure some of the regulars can chime in with recommendations for you

maybe it would be worth getting a few quotes from some of the trusted pricescope vendors??

BGD comes to mind...

Hello heyjudes,
unless you are intent on having the setting made local to you, I would personally stick with single stone.
I think for authentic, classic and delicate vintage style settings as you''ve identified you prefer, they are really top of the game.

Of course, in NY there is Leon, but not sure how you feel about the prospect of working with him.

You know what, I have always been a staunch 4 prong kinda gal, but after looking around you have really opened my eyes to how pretty some 8 prongs are - I may even consider setting mine this way, so thanks!

Here is a ring that shows the "diamonds in the crown" I was speaking of earlier (just ignore all the engraving etc). This ring is from Lang Antique, which I personally love for finding vintage inspiration

Here is another very pretty simple 8 prong..
I think this would be an elegant, low profile way to use your extra round diamonds too..

oooh - if you are going for stones in the sides of the setting I agree with AJ in that Singlestone seems to know how to get that kind of look right

but how could we forget the JbEG Julia...??

fantastic suggestion heli!
This would be my choice for sure..has a plain shank, 8 prongs..and some extra sparkle.

I do not think they will be able to use judes'' OEC''s for the melee, as they need consistent single cuts..
but still

!!

Do you like this one judes?

The Julia is nice - but I think it's designed for a cushion based on their website and I liked the prongs from the setting Helio showed me.
30.gif

Do you think JBEG and SS would be able to make a setting for me? I know they are both specialists in antique cuts and could really do justice for my lil' ol' OEC.

AJ and Helio - DBF and I are totally sold on the 8 prongs - in fact when I showed DBF last night he exclaimed "that's the one!" - thanks so much.

heyjudes,

from JBEG website, about the Julia "This setting is available for any size and shape center stone."
1.gif

Are you referring to Angel7777''s ring when you say the 8 prongs setting you and your guy are sold on?
Just making sure, as all the settings shown on this page are 8 prong..
5.gif

Yes, I would definitely ask both JBEG and SS for a quote for the setting you love - good luck and let us know how it goes!

Hey AJ - yes! Sorry to be unclear - DBF and I are sold on Angel777''s 8-prong ring. We will request a quote from both JBEG and SS for that ring. Hopefully they can do it.

BTW, what kind of prongs are on that ring?

also - you will need to consider how you want the profile to look

if you are after the W look - it is called a ''rex collet''

this is an example of an 8 prong rex collet bezel (this one has simple prongs)

maybe search rex collet to get ideas...??

No worries heyjudes, that''s what I thought.
Yes, Heli is right - double or split prongs..However, it''s always easiest to just send your vendor as
many photos as possible...much easier than trying to explain all the elements.
5.gif

Heli, Thanks for posting that term, Rex Collet, I hadn''t heard of it - and where are you finding all these great images?
I would love to obtain a simple 8 prong in the style you just posted as a temp setting for my OEC..

wanna come over to my thread and help..?

I appreciate the help

And heyjudes, my apology for the mini thread-jack, I hope you don''t mind!

No apologies necessary. I''m very appreciative of both you and Helio''s helpfulness.

I did get a quote from Ari at SS and I it is WAY above the budget that DBF and I had set aside for the setting. Still waiting to hear from JBEG and I think I will contact BGD as Helio suggested.

Are there are any vendors with the 8 prongs already in stock? I have to confess I''m still in a bit of shock at SS''s price quote.

oh really...I'm sorry to hear it didn't work for you with SS judes

Would you mind to share the ballpark figure (only if you're comfortable of course).
Admittedly, they are on the upper-side price wise...Are you going for plat or WG?

I would like to know the answer to your question about 8 prong stock settings myself! So far I haven't found one at the usual suspects..

BGD are def. a bit more price friendly, and I'm sure would be happy to work within your budget.
The other option I was thinking about, you may have noticed with Dreamers' upgrade, she had BGD order a stock setting from an outside manufacturer..this will always be more economical, so perhaps you can ask BG about this possibility?

I have a request for the same info in with them at the moment, but haven't heard back as yet

Hey Ladies

I don''t really know how you go about using Stuller - but they have this in their online catalogue

(it popped up for me when I was trying to search where I found the side profile pick from earlier today)

I wish I had learnt to rename all my saved pics from the start - so I would know where I found things!!

Here''s what Ari wrote: "Our handcrafted pieces in simIlar styles are generally priced in the range of $2,100-$2,800 in Plat and $1,800-$2,500 in 18k white gold. Prices include a $150 allowence for setting of the center stone. Insured shipping is additional depending on the value of your stone. The simple baskets will be the lower prices and the more detailed baskets will be the higher range."

Helio - I like the Stuller - but I think that setting is a little too high - I need something lower so I can wear it on a day-to-day basis.

Which setting did Dreamer have BGD call in for her? *runs off to stalk Dreamer''s thread*

ha ha, I was just about to post that I know where you got that picture from earlier Heli -

its here, at Eurofindings

Judes, if you are happy with the appearance of these, any vendor should be able to find out a price for you..
Let me know if you do!

there you go!! thanks for the link AJ - I drive myself nuts trying to track back through websites all the time - I have way too many bookmarked under ''antiques''

Heyjudes - so sorry - I have no idea where Angel777 got that pick from - I ran a search here today and a couple of threads on 6 and 8 prong settings popped up??

AJ! It's like you read my mind! The Euro ones are *almost* what I want. I just don't like that weird circle business underneath. I know - I'm difficult.

I also did some additional searching and found this setting at Knox..Knox Jewelers Link

he he, I understand your pain Heli! I'm the same with all my many photos saved..

Judes, I imagine a vendor could easily remove those little circles..I thought the same thing, I don't like them really either
2.gif
The problem though is that Eurofindings is well, in Europe, lol! (the UK) I just realized this..so I doubt any of the US vendors will be willing to order from there
7.gif

I'm sure there must be US findings companies that offer the same thing though...time to get on the email to different PS vendors I think judes!

For some reason, the Knox site just will not load for me..I'll have to check again later..
or can you post a photo?

btw judes, I'm not surprised that you were surprised at SS's pricing for such a simple setting - I am surprised!

Try this AJ http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/products/antique-solitaire-1053.

Yeah, the SS pricing totally surprised me. I''m scouring all the ring websites I can to find it. The Knox one is the closest. I wish there could be a 8-prong basket setting in Platinum. Nothing extra, nothing less.

Ok, finally got Knox to load..sooo..slow..lol!

Sorry Judes, I don''t really like it. It appears like a peg head, as in the head is not integrated with the shank
properly, kwim? I''m not a fan of this look..

I also imagine you could have someone order findings and create the same look for less..

Sorry

Ack - you''re right AJ. I didn''t look at the other pics. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I really do like the Angel777 the best, just not with all that extra detail underneath.

I did contact JBEG. I''ve been looking online at Stuller which seems to have 8 prongs but the prongs just don''t look the same way the prongs do on Angel777''s ring.

Who else should I contact? BGD?
