Oh, love it when she gets out the aqua clips!

A few more pics of P. Maxima wearing her lovely jewels & looking especially pretty. And not looking 40! Oh dear, Queen Beatrix must confer with her young namesake in England on clothing style!

How appropriate to wear the tiara known as "Girls of Great Britian and Ireland!"

She is an ace at jewelry symbolism! Such as wearing her maple leaf brooches to Canada. No flies on that Queen!

this is also a point which comes in my mind.. not only that HM wore it because of the light weight of that jewel.

The photo above is probably when the Queen visited the Kildare stud. The Prince Albert brooch looks just right with her outfit. Don't know how she can bear to wear gloves when near horses! I'd have to put my hands on them.

The Queen does have an illuminating smile, Shelly. When I see pics of her smiling, I always wish I knew her.

Yow, some brooch, Alexander. Is it new-new or old-new & not worn forever? Does not look familiar to me at all.

Why are we suddenly in bold type here, shouting at each other?

What a handsome couple, Maria. Both look like movie stars. I would expect the country to have some spectacular jewels but can't find a mention of any. Hate to wait for the wedding to see! The previous king initiated a 2-party system & the present one, his son, turned the country into a democratic constitutional monarchy. Another interesting custom is polygamy & polyandry:

"King Jigme Singye Wangchuck [present King's father], was a popular and progressive monarch. As leader of a polygamous and polyandrous country, he was married to four beautiful sisters, each of whom maintains her own house. He lived very simply in a log cabin and was interested in fostering education and preserving the environment. Traditionally, daughters inherit their parent's property. Where there are several husbands, the offspring equally inherit because it is not known which is the father.

"The basic idea is to keep the property together. Like: five brothers take one wife. They're not all in the house at the same time. One husband might be in the army; another, a traveling salesman; another, a government worker, a farmer, etc. Polygamy and polyandry happen when people have a plot of land or a holding which they don't want to separate -- at least, for one generation."

The country is largely Buddhist. Hope there are lots of pics of the wedding!

This is turning out to be a great year for royal weddings! The King of Bhutan has announced he's getting married in October.

I think she's really pretty. What type of jewels would a Queen of Bhutan (small country in the Himalayan mountains) wear?

WOW, she's gorgeous. Lucky guy (he kind of reminds me of Elvis though).

Here's another picture of the future Queen of Bhutan...

Here are some pictures from the coronation of Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan. The national colors are red, white, green, blue, and yellow which represent the "elements" (water, wind, fire, earth, and space).

Now this picture is a little unclear...it was in a slide show from the King of Bhutan's coronation. The caption just said "ladies of the royal family." What I did notice though was the necklaces...perhaps this gives us a little taste of Bhutanese jewelry?

I like rocks from ROCKS (Really Obscure Countries and KingdomS)!!!

I heard that Diana's (now Kate's) sapphire was Australian. Is that true? If so, that would explain why it looks so inky and dark. I never liked it that much. Does anyone know more about the origin of the stone?

I thought it was a Ceylon Blue from Sri Lanka.

Here is a contemporary drawing of the suite that Bertie presented to Alix as a wedding gift.

HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother often wore the necklace.
Here is a set of portraits taken of the Queen Mum in 1975. She is wearing the Greville/Honeycomb Tiara (now used by the Duchess of Cornwall) and Queen Alexandra''s wedding necklace. You can also see the large pearl ring that she wore in place of her original engagement ring which was a blue sapphire.

I had always been told her engagement ring was an aquamarine, is that really not the case?
