My first PS CS was actually from a PSer @peppermintpatty and it was this green tourmaline:

What is funny as I was actually looking for an emerald and having a hard time finding one I liked within the budget so I ended up purchasing this green stone even though it doesn’t look like an emerald. I was just looking for green stones and I thought it was really pretty! So I wanted to set it in an art deco halo but Wisepricescopers told me it would black out so I just ended up setting it in a very simple setting :

But then I had an art deco halo on the brain from my first plan ha ha. So I still thought Emerald but instead fell in love with this amazing mint tourmaline from finewater and PSers enabled me.

THEN I found an emerald with a color I liked and within budget LOL. Which became my three stone emerald.

So my first three stones ha ha. That I bought all within the span of three months.

Very impressive first three stones! The mint tourmaline is exquisite.

My very first CS is a pink tourmaline from Dan Stair back in 2010. Dan's picture is pretty accuracy and it has a nice size of 7.54mm. It remains a loose stone all these years; I probably won't buy it now as it does not wow me but I've not considered selling it either since it is pretty. I now consider making it into a pendant for my younger niece when she turns 10.

I don't recall my first CS but I think it is highly likely it has been sold on Loupetroupe or something.

@Double E ’s wife first PS CS! A stone from Gene! A stunning pink lab sapphire

What is your first PS CS?

Thank you for involving our stone here^^ I was thinking about whether lab stone is allowed to join the party~

And well, we do enjoy wearing this ring, as the setting is also very nice and seriously chosen, despite a lab stone. Recently I am just aware that it sometimes gives orange colour flashes which is quite pleasing. May be due to use of rose gold I guess. Not mean to relate it to any sort of pad colours, just think it’s interesting to have another dimension of the stone~

And not just because everyone here speaks highly of Gene, but I do very much admire and appreciate his craft. Hope to get more special and natural gems from him, and if I do, will definitely share~

The mint one- you gotta show the side profile! If I remember correctly that settting has a fleur de lis and I absolutely love it. Dream setting! Saved in my inspo folder!!

First was this beautifully cut benitoite from Michele Mai. Followed by a suite from Yvonne.

We would love to see the suite as well. Did you set your beautiful benitoite? Love the colour!

Can you perhaps go back to your oldest thread about a CS? @Niel that could also work for you

I first came here for advice on alexandrite, I was making a ring of my daughters' birthstones and my youngest is an awkward June baby! I soon figured out I couldn't afford a nice natural stone, so ended up going synthetic. I hope this is OK here. It ended up as a 3 stone, alexandrite cushion with trillion emerald sides, all cut by Stag and Finch. DSC_0935_00001.jpg 20190214_164439.jpg 20190214_164328.jpg

First natural PS CS was a star sapphire and a swiss blue topaz from mastercut gems.

The spinel for my wedding/engagement ring. It has been reset once from an overly delicate setting to this sturdy one. Purchased about 15 yrs ago. I would buy it again. Took me 7 mos. and looking at a lot of stones before I found it.

My first CS that I bought after joining PS was the orange spinel, which I think I managed to crack (which starts a little ways from the middle to almost the edge, not surface breaching) after dropping it about 2 1/2 feet onto those school carpets due to a rock (I think, or maybe it’s the chair leg, I have no idea due to it being 11:45 at night) that just so happened to be at the right place at the right time when I was tired and holding it in my hand :boohoo::wall: (you can kinda see it, it’s the line that is in the middle) 6AF4C78D-1B73-4D1E-9593-438435DC35A3.jpeg
After that incident I’ve been extra, extra careful when handling gemstones. Most of my new gemstones hardly ever leave their jars/boxes now even when I inspect them with a loupe. This was going to be the one I put into a ring first, but now along with the silky/milky spinel I have that for sure has a crack, it’s going to need a trip to the local jewelers for setting evaluation.
The first ring is most likely going to be a 5 round bezel ring from Yvonne, as it fits my budget when using platinum. I already bought and am satisfied with the center stone, which is a Jedi spinel from Yvonne that is a bright neon pink in direct sunlight face up and a pink leaning red in low light. 8CDF9626-4BEC-4921-8D2E-51019DB1D716.jpeg 99010974-D798-419F-9540-EA50E4E02F43.jpeg 2CF512F1-2B8B-4224-9257-A0082F0EF374.jpeg 99010974-D798-419F-9540-EA50E4E02F43.jpeg
And finally these 2 stones together against the sun. image.jpg

I would absolutely buy either of these again. In fact I went on to acquire many more benitoites, and about 10 other CSs but benes were my gateway stone. It meant a lot that Michelle was a CA cutter, cutting the CA state stone for a 9th gen CA girl.

Messing around but the smaller bezeled stone is the one.

Top band- suite of princess cut, one broke so Yvonne kindly engraved it for me.

Sure, I'll share.

My first CS purchase were some 4mm chrome pyrope garnets, one pair from Dana Reynolds and the next from Litnon.

Screen Shot 2022-05-01 at 12.15.35 PM.png

I don't remember which was which. They look similar, but one pair has a slightly pinkish tone, while the other is pure red. I had thought to make them into earrings, but never got very far into designing something. One day.

My first (and only) ring since joining PS is a 1.36 ct dark grey spinel cut by Dana Reynolds set in 14K x1 white gold. We can't discuss the side stones. Like most gray spinels, it can be moody and show some blue or purple body color, but in most lighting it is gray.

My only regret that I had originally planned a ring design that would cost a bit over $1,000 and thought, "No, this was a sale stone. I shouldn't spend that much." It's actually one of the cheapest stones I have. However, it is also the liveliest! Though it's dark, it is very sparkly and rarely looks dead or blacked out. It's probably good I went for a simple design for my first ring, but I kind of wish I had it set in my original plan. I wear it all the time, though I now have plans for a second, more colorful ring.

Fun thread, I’ll play! I started looking through this forum seriously a couple of years ago when I became interested in Jedi spinels. I bought this pre-made ring with a small spinel from StellaMarisGems. The cut of the stone is not great but the color is amazing - super vivid pinkish-red that absolutely glows under most lighting. I’ve attached the vendor’s videos too; IMO, the stone looks better IRL than in vendor’s pics. This first spinel has set some unrealistic expectations though because I’ve bought quite a few spinels over the last couple of years hoping to get something similar (but bigger), and nothing has been as nice

I bought a silky pear spinel and a faint pink (no cert) pear shaped rose cut diamond from another PSer to make a moi & toi ring. I resold the spinel at the same price I purchased it, and only recently set the diamond. pear_spinel_black.JPG
