Say you had an 8.5 mm L color OEC and two 5.5 mm matching oec side stones. WHAT would be your choice for a 3 stone setting?

Budget?

Easy then. VC vine trilogy. Hands down.

Hmmm....I only see it with cushions! The round 3 stone on his site is the orchid?

He can do it for a round.

Ah thanks! I think I might like smaller diamonds for the sides. Maybe 4.9-5ish? What do you like for three-stone ratios, Gypsy?

I like my sides on the smaller side myself.

This ring, for me has perfect proportions and is the MAX size I would go, proportionately. I also like three stones with smaller sides than this, proportionately

It's nala's center is 1.08 sides are .26. But she doesn't list measurements for the stones, so I can't calculate the ratio.

I LOVE those proportions!! Still allows the center to be the star, but the sides hold their own. Love it.....

I upgraded my ring solely to get rid of proportions like that because I hated the sort of oval shape it made on my hand all together. My original ring was 1.2x with .33ct sides. My new ring is 1.7x and .5x sides and honestly I wish I had gone a little bit bigger on the sides.

It's set in a stock setting, I think from Unique, this is the side view. I love this setting. Way less than your budget but it's so classic.

My three stone has a 8.46-8.49 center with .33 sidestones - they are smaller than what you first quoted. Pictured just to give you a size perspective.

I would also say the Vine.
Or the Lily:

Or the trilogy with pave:

The Lily is definitely my favorite for a simple and elegant one! My only qualm about the Lily, though, is that it would be a very hard ring to size if that was ever needed. I'd be open to ideas from Caysie, though, for antique stones, as well. I also have an antique Tiffany 3 stone image saved which would be good for OECs that either Victor or Caysie could make.

Yep. I LOVE this ratio. I definitely want the smaller sidetones. I also have a small finger, so I think it will look better....

I bought the 2.28 L OEC from Erica. It will be temporarily worn in Caysie's "try before you buy" Acacia setting because it's a perfect fit. I will wear as a solitaire for a while to see what I think. I am torn between a three stone, an 8 prong vintage repro solitaire, a halo of calibre cut sapphires, and this (but without an airline)

Mine is a traditional handmade threestone. Old is ontop... 1.75 center and .45 sides. New has the same center and .63 sides. Subtle, but noticeable.

Yes. I loved her 5 stone too!!!

Another question, is Victor even an option? I heard he was not setting outside stones at this time....

I missed her post before, but I really do like small accent side stones with a large center. I think I could even do .25 sides.

I will have to say, though, I like those midrange color antique stones a lot in halos.

I would just ask him or request for a quote. Especially since you are a returning customer.
Victor has set three colored stones for me, but I don't know whether his policy has changed.

It is always a case-by-case basis. He puts his diamond customers first in line for settings understandably. It may entirely depend on what setting the person wants, as well. So I would always ask him.

I would go and try on 3 stone rings at a local jeweler but I cannot STAND how pushy they are. It gives me anxiety..... :(

I love it both ways! Honestly, it's hard to go wrong with most proportions. The only kind I really don't like is when the side stones are too big which kind of dwarfs the center stone.

Soxfan, I agree. I hate going into local jewelers partly for the reason you said and partly because I have a little guilt taking their time when there is no chance I am ever buying a diamond or diamond jewelry from them!

Oh I love the Lily too.

Soxs what other rings do you have?

So I have a .93 OEC in a platinum casablanca halo and a 1.59 antique pear in a bespoke CVB platinum halo. I also have a CVB riviera band and an engraved band. Links/pics:

You have two halos. I would get a three stone for this one.

I really like the Lily too - both for the aesthetics and for comfort. If a ring isn't comfortable, it doesn't get worn much!
