As someone who knows immediately whether I like something, I'd be ok with this. Are you comfortable deciding within 24 hours? At least you'll know it's already (double) certified.

I guess so. Indoor/outdoor (overcast the better per earlier posts), have UV light torch, should be good enough to test within a day. At least the first item I bought from him came as advertised/expected.

Would I have to close the pavilion with metal backing to cover the windowing?

I'm not a big fan of cups, because I'm rather obsessive about cleaning the pavilion. Just setting the stone should help in general. But yes, a cup would be most effective in terms of closing more prominent windows. In my opinion, YG would also be best. If you're still unsure though, don't rush yourself. Give it some more thought. :)

I agree that you’ll know the minute you see it if you love it or not.
Just remember to view it in your most common lighting condition because that’s how you’ll mostly see it. I have an Alexandrite bracelet but I rarely get to see the incandescent colour change because most lights these days are LED.
My pancake Ruby is like 80% window but the strong colour means it’s not very noticeable. I think windows in gems are more noticeable in lighter coloured gems. So I think you’ll find it ok, but yes a yellow gold cup underneath will best highlights the red.

Have you been able to read reviews of this seller anywhere? I ask bc it’s a big amount of money and saying thy will refund vs actually doing so if needed are two different things and risky with international sales. We have had at least one story on PS where refunds went awry.

I didn’t see the vendor so this isn’t shade, just a general caution.

I did, generally positive feedback, and seem legitimate business operating out of Hong Kong. Actually bought from him previously, interaction and purchase quite smooth, apart from major hiccough from UPS on delivery, neither he or I impressed about that.

Okay so the 1.02ct ruby is bound for GRS re-certification. Will take 6 weeks then a trip to GIA before, if everything goes well, to me.

My search for a ruby continues…the 1.02ct ruby the vendor sent for GRS re-certification did NOT come back as Mogok origin, just Burma. A shame because I really liked its colour.

I did not make any downpayment except for costs associated with certification which we agreed to keep as store credit with indefinite duration, given I plan on buying from him again in near future (had prior transactions) and bank transaction cost eating into the refund would take off like 10% of the amount returnable. But again on the look out for the best Mogok ruby possible under $15K USD…the vendor for 1.02ct ruby says he will keep looking.

I'm sorry for the disappointment, but it sounds like you have a plan! As someone who's typically not interested in provenance, this is sort of foreign to me. "I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it." But if Mogok origin is that important to you, so be it. That is what's great about collecting... you call all the shots. Good luck!!
