Hello,

I got this yellow antique cushion ring.
Will you tell me your honest opinion whether this is a keeper?
It has pretty good clarity likely in vs range. The color looks different depending on the lighting.
One strange thing is that it has whiteish fluorescence directly face up, but from the side, I see blue fluorescence.
I have another light brown OMC that has a similar white fluorescence. Is that common in colored or more tinted stones? Is it strange that the fluorescence looks different depending on the viewing angle?

This image was taken under white LED light. The color looks paler under artificial lights.

It looks greenish yellow in direct sunlight:

Beautiful ring! :D

luorescence directly face up, but from the side, I see blue fluorescence.

Can you share photos of the blue and white fluoro you see (e.g. under UV?).

When it looks greenish, are you standing under a tree and getting environmental reflections?

The greenish is likely caused by the yellow body color combined with the blue fluorescence.

It’s really a cool ring. I’d like more pics. Especially of the white fluorescence.

I like it and think it is cool how it changes in different lighting.

Hi!
Thank you for your responses!

I was not under a tree when I took the sunlight pictures.

Here are the fluoro images. 6A2DF294-56B6-4A8A-842F-26B06C24407A.jpeg 40C1C0E7-EF39-43BC-9E91-5E0F6F1B2ED0.jpeg

One thing I thought about was that maybe the fluorescence is so strong it appears white?
But I’m still not sure why it looks blue in center and yellow on edges from the side. I’m a bit worried if it could possibly be an indication of some treatment? I have a very short window of return :(2

Here’s a picture with my other stone with whiteish fluoro. Not that similar now I see them in an image side by side.

Thanks!!

That is a cool stone!

If I understand it correctly, Fluorescence, like colour, can be zonal - a crystal of rough can have been subject to different elements and forces when being created, so one part can be one colour and another part another colour. Fluor would surely be the same, as some parts may have had different exposure to different elements/pressures during formation!

If you want it appraised and comments on the fluor then @denverappraiser or @oldminer would be able to do that, or @Rockdiamond may be able to comment generally on the fluor aspects of coloured stones, I think!

I would snap that stone up for an awesome men's tension setting ring! (if I had any money :( lol)

Very cool!! :appl:

I think it’s a beautiful diamond and a really neat ring!

I think it’s a very pretty stone with neat fluoro. I’d keep it if you like it

Thank you, everyone!

I think it’s growing on me. In certain light conditions, I can see the blue surrounded by yellow. It’s kind of magical =)2

I still hope @Rockdiamond or any other expert will stop by and comment on the strange fluorescence.

Thank you, @OoohShiny I’m going to read up on the zonal aspects of diamond fluorescence.

Have a skim through Gemconcepts' Instagram page - I am sure he has posted a picture of a half-and-half crystal!

I wouldn't even consider not keeping it! I love it.

Hi All!
It's very difficult to capture fluorescence with a camera.
Add to this that many fl stones don't follow a "normal" pattern. It's hard to tell, sometimes, if fl is blue or white- especially in photos.
