Would you change this ring or wear as is?

I love the old cut stones in this ring and I love the square shape. I usually swoon over rose gold and engravings. But I don't know if the overall look just makes it feel dated, rather than antique. IOW, I don't know if I can pull of this look. Would you change it or leave it as is?

Here is the inspiration ring. I think my jeweler can make a similar shank.

This is just my opinion, but I think the ring looks a bit dated and somewhat masculine for my personal taste, I think in part because of the thick shank. I adore the ring you linked, and I think a thinner shank would give the your ring a more delicate look. I know some here on PS are against changing vintage/antique pieces, but I think if it's going to make the piece more wearable, I think it's worth it. Again, JMO!

Just curious, would the jeweler create a new setting or alter the existing ring by changing the shank? Also, do you currently own the ring or are you considering buying it?

The ring you are looking at compared to the ring you posted as your inspiration don't (to me) seem to have the same vibe, and I would say that if you wanted to use the stones and either re-make your inspiration piece or have the shank altered, you'd be much happier with that. It does come across as either dated or very modern masculine, which might be your style, in which case I think it would make a fabulous middle finger ring.

Awww, I'm so flattered. That's my ring (the inspiration piece)! About a week ago, I came across it's almost-twin sister for sale.

Meet "Tulane": http://trumpetandhorn.com/tulane.html

There are also a few similar-styled rings on Ruby Lane for sale (try searching for 'art deco old cut diamond') for right around or < $1K. It might be worth a look vs. trying to change the ring you have already. Just a thought. Best of luck with however you decide to proceed!

The one you posted looks like a men's ring to me, whereas JoCoJenn's ring clearly is a woman's ring. I'd skip that one altogether and look for another antique ring you really LOVE!

Ok, so I had my jeweler tweak it. Here are the after pictures:

I like it! How about a hand shot?

nice "tweak job"! The transformation really works to lighten up the feel of the ring and make the diamond face the star. :appl:

Nice outcome! Is that a whole new shank or did they rework the existing shank?

ETA - if this were mine, I think I would consider engraving the shank and sides of the face to soften & add an 'antique' vibe to it, but that's just me.

Very nice, I would never have thought your ring could look this different with a seemingly small change! Great job. Looks beautiful on your hand too. I bet it gives off a lot of sparkle :D

Looks very pretty!

I like it much better with the 'tweak'! It doesn't look as masculine or as much like a class ring as it did at first.

Trying to get a better picture. Thanks to all for your comments.

JoCOJenn: My jeweler thinned the shank out and created the split.
I like the idea of softening it up a bit more, but I don't know how. I really liked the rings you posted, but I wanted a square shape!

I think just a simple/delicate engraving pattern on the shank would soften it up nicely. :D

Do you have a side/profile pics you could share?
