I think a very well cut J in that .7 - .8 ct range would not show huge amounts of tint. Try it. Then if she does not like it, use the return or upgrade option later. If I had to pick between .5ct H or .75 J, I'd pick the .75ct J. Most people don't notice color first thing, but do notice the diameter and the sparkle.

Agreed. When I was looking at stones (in person), I had absolutely no qualms with the J's I looked at. I ended up getting an H, but the difference was not noticeable to me, but I am admittedly not color sensitive. As stated above by the PP, I'd rather have a .75 J than a .5 H. The size difference in that example is substantial enough to make me forgive any warmth ;)

Thanks for all your input. Much appreciated. I got the info from Brian Gavin on the 2 stones. I looked at the pictures for both stones that were in the .7 range and the pictures all look the same to me. I looked at the side by side, printed them, etc. At this point, should I just put on a blind fold and choose one? haha. I cannot tell the difference.

Yes! haha... why not ask him to pick the most gorgeous one for you? He has the stones in front of him.

Dreamer, so even if 2 stones have the same type of cut, same color/clarity, 1 can be more beautiful than the other? I''m dumbfounded by this.

Thanks but I am not comfortable buying on Ebay although I admit I did look there at first. I even considered EGL stones, but even sellers of EGL stones confirmed their grading doesn''t compare to GIA or AGS. I put the BGD stone on hold, and will sleep on it just to make sure. I''m not an impulse type person (even though topic might seem otherwise). I can post pics of the stone if everyone wants to see?

So if one person do not want to look at the images you will not post? :P

I would like to see the images and report.

What? you''re not sick of me yet? I was sure by now you''d be plain sick of my whining. ha! Posting the images now.

Aset (I still don''t really understand this one. But the colors are nice)

the sarin & AGS report won''t post. It''s giving me an error that it exceeds limit.

Yes, I would wager that the angles are not completely identical between the two diamonds, also one can be a higher J or a lower J (meaning slight variations in tint)... these things combine to make each diamond look just a little bu different! Really, though, with diamonds like BGD signatures, they are all gorgeous. Brian hand picks them and since he and Lesley left WF and set up their own shop I think that they basically do what makes them happy, and for Brian I think that means selecting stunning diamonds to sell to people!

ya, probably size too big, just list the ags report number and the carat size as listed on the report. Or use this to get the link and pdf file and then post the pdf link here.
http://agslab.com/verify_diamond_grading_report.php
The AGS # is 0010377508 and the carat is .711.

Lesley said the stones are identical side by side, so I went with the smaller one since the size won''t be noticeable just to be in the budget with the setting. I''ll post a picture of the actual 4 prong setting with a stone, although it is 1.5 cts (HUGE), but you can see it.

4 prong setting in a huge stone (not mine)

I really like their 4 prong setting. The finish work that BGD does is awesome, so the ring will be gorgeous.

I too would like a 1.5ct rock

I really think you should call Brian Gavin Diamonds or Whiteflash tomorrow. Not too put you in too much of a panic, but you are really running out of time to get a ring by Christmas Eve. Either of these two vendors is your best bet for getting a ring in time. Brian Gavin looked to have more diamonds in your size and price range, but Whiteflash may also be able to help you. Both companies sell diamonds that will sparkle as much as any Hearts on Fire stone. But you need to get the process underway ASAP.
I have to say your rings are nice. I''ve never seen anything like them before.

Yes, that size would be ideal. She wears a size 5 so it would probably look too big, especially since I can''t afford that type of lifestyle yet. Maybe in 10 years. baby steps.

I was blown away by that picture. The way the prongs are pointed towards the end and how they are positioned between the arrows. How in the world do they set it like that? i wonder if they can do that for a small stone like the one I''m purchasing.

Thanks for checking it out and giving your input. i appreciate you checking on this thread and responding to my questions. I think the pictures were very nice. I didn''t know that pictures like that could be of real stones. they look too perfect. My only reservation is with the J color. I think the size is good and the 4 prong setting is growing on me, even though their truth setting is still one of my favorites I''ve seen yet.

Should not be a problem for J at that size but that is personal sensitivity.

Yup, they sure can! I specifically requested the orientation of my centre and 0.3ct sides, and they were very accomodating - though of course I don''t know what faces they made at each other once I hung up the phone

i''m glad you were able to find something you think she will love! Now you need to put thought into that proposal!

A rock that size would not look to big! LOL! Its great to dream. I started with a .80ct J and have worked my way up to a 1.2ct G, if it is something you want to do then it just takes time. But you gf may not want to ever change her ring, many women are sentimental. Go figure

And yup, your ring will look JUST like that but a little smaller! They set them using a microscope I believe.

Thank you for your compliment on my rings. The ones in my avatar weren''t made by BGD or WF though. The rings I have from those companies are shown at the bottom of this thread:

The four prong setting you chose looks similar to the one I have. It''s a beautiful setting, and I like it a lot.

I think you made a good choice!

Coda,

My gf''s ring will be the mini version of yours. I like the way it looks with the band too. Mind me asking why you have 2 different sets? Please don''t take offense. Just wondering.

Just an update that I did pull the trigger. My sister has been a big help and she did a transfer to Brian Gavin''s account today so it is in production. I still have some concerns about the J color but I watched some videos from the Goodoldgold.com site that had a video specifically in my size range of stones in different colors. I believe there were 4 and I couldn''t hardly notice the difference. I''m not sure how accurate the video is because like pictures, I''m sure videos make the stone appear different also. But I did what I can, I chose what I believe was the best stone I could for my budget and I''m surprised I even got to the size range I did, so I thank everyone for your input.

Now I am just really curious on what that size (.711 ct) looks like on a size 5 finger. I''m packing to leave on Saturday and my sis will overnight the ring to me once she gets it next week. This is a very close call. Wish me luck!

Happy Holidays!
