Why is the GIA report dated 2006? Is this very old?

Hi All,

I am in the process of buying an Asscher diamond. One of the Asschers I have viewed has a date on the GIA report of 2006, why would this be? I have been told that Asschers are rare meaning there tends to be less of them available and this can some times happens.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this, how old should the GIA report be?

That is rubbish. Asschers not be the most popular type of cut but this isn't the reason why the report is date 2006.

There could be several reasons for this:

1) The diamond has been in some vendor's inventory since 2006. Why couldn't it be sold? Your guess is as good as mine. (Though unlikely)

2) Somebody bought the diamond many years back and sold/traded it to the jeweler. Jeweler is trying to sell you the diamond now. Nothing wrong with it being 2nd hand though. However, I would get the jeweler to send it back for regrading by GIA. Who should pay for the fees? Well, it's up to you for negotiating. Most consumers won't mind paying the fee to get a piece of mind.

It easily could have been sitting at the jewelry store for that long. Rounds and princess cuts have been selling the most during that time, and a lot of people probably don't even ask for an asscher. If it has been sitting at a supplier that long, it maybe isn't a well cut asscher. Have you looked at enough asschers to recognize a well cut one? When I was buying an asscher through Good Old Gold, they called in a few asschers for me and then compared them in a video. It made it super easy for me to choose. Maybe by looking at the video it will help you compare this stone to them.

What would you recommend to be fairly average date on a GIA report?

I forgot to ask, how did you go with Good Old Gold, did you purchase in the end? I just contacted them to see what they have available?
