Thank you for the special invite! I so will! This past Wednesday I stopped by my favorite pawn shop and I found a mini fridge for my classrooom. The pawn shop owner is sooo sweet even tho I just met him earlier this year. I was eyeing a ring and I asked him for a combo deal. He said ok, buy the ring get the mini fridge for free! The fridge was tagged at 40 bucks and the ring 150 and my out the door price was 150! Not an antique but I love it! Here it is. The heart! Diamond halo 14k and I suspect it’s Morganite.

Friends, I am so sad, today I found out that one of my favorite sellers locally passed away back in March. Didn’t even realize it has been that long since we went back to that indoor flea market.

I did end up buying a pin from her booth but was just really out of sorts about the news. Joan’s booth was just a small corner but loaded with bins and bins of this and that. Today in one of those bins I found this abalone pin made in Japan. I’ll also share my two favorite things from her, a Bohl’s liquor bottle with a dancing ballerina that plays music and this black mother of pearl pendant (needs a bale still). RIP Joan.

I'm so sorry to hear about her passing. Hopefully the pieces you got from her will bring you some comfort.

On a personal note, this is why I still have the two CSs I got from Barry Bridgestock, even though I haven't worn them in forever.

Aww, that is sad. I frequently keep small items that were given to me by people who have since passed away. Little reminders.

I found a couple of fun things at an antique mall today. Some people just don't know what they are selling.......
This is a reproduction Three Face biscuit jar from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Made in the 1970s. I first saw this item when I was a kid in the MMA catalogue. I never thought that 45 years later I would finally get one!

And in a small bag of junk watches, there was a vintage Omega! Men's, 14k gold filled. It's probably from the early 1950s, but I'm not gonna take the back off to check the serial number. It runs great and I don't wanna mess it up!! Similar ones are quite pricey on eBay!

Lastly, I spied this pair of nice akoya earrings hiding in a basket of costume jewelry. I could clearly see the 14k mark, but I guess the seller didn't! Yay, new pearl earrings!

I found this cool piece of art glass and I was mesmerized. I had to have it!
It was made by Dan Bergsma, a Seattle glass artist. He studied at the Pilchuck Glass school, founded by Dale Chihuly. It almost looks like a Chihuly piece.....if only!!
It is 13" high and 17" wide, so rather large. You could put two full grown cats in it!

oh thank you

but you know we dont mow our lawn

its called rewilding
it looks a bit cr*p (because it does need effort and turns out im too lazy) but we have so many birds
and in the summer we have the last green lawn in Wanganui - and we don't water it !

I studied Landscape Architecture, I totally get it. Best thing to do. Brilliant D!

Not technically a “haul” since I didn’t buy anything but had fun looking. These two were the outstanding treasures of the day:

Also if you are in or close to CT check out Monger’s Market in Bridgeport. A lot of industrial pieces for interior design, it definitely has a NY vibe to it. See the reviews and pictures on Yelp but be aware there is no air conditioning!

I was inspecting a small bag of junk jewelry at a local antique mall when I spotted gold.
Three 14k earrings, and two match! Yay!
I've been having lots of luck recently at this location.

@Begonia and @88_star how long did it take you to get good at pearl knotting? I’m nervous to dip a toe into that world.

Not too long at all. Don't be nervous. I find that (after a few years away), my first attempt sucks, but the next one is great. Once you decide on a silk or powerpro size, buy at least 2 pkgs LOL. Watch some YouTube videos there are many.

If you do 2-strand knotting, it's easier to get tight knots, but I prefer one strand as most of the drill holes are so tiny. Hardest parts are tension (keeping it tight and consistent), and beginnings and ends. You have to think ahead how you're going to tie on and tie off, but neither of those are hard hard, just require some pre planning.

It's quite addictive, and I really enjoy it. Plus you can save quite a lot on restringing, and the most modest beads get elevated by knotting and funky color silk choices. Also, use knotting tweezers, do not be fooled by those who say your thumb nail is good enough. No no no.

Hope that helps :)

At another antique mall that I frequent........
These earrings called to me!
They appear to be baroque freshwater pearls.
And the cameo! This one is Ceres, because she has wheat on her head. Maybe carved 1880-1910?
Too bad her frame is long gone. I will concoct something from sterling and wear her as a pendant.

Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure she originally had a gold frame, and it was sold for scrap.
Too bad, isn't it?
I will definitely post an update when make her a new mounting!
