@stracci2000, oh I agree that everything tastes better on a pretty dish. Does the DH say anything about your expanding collection of dishes or does he take it all in stride?

I think I was as excited to share the agate as I was to buy it! I’ve heard this type of agate grows in water, is that true? I clearly need to do more research!

Here is a little info on dendritic agate. There's lots of info online about it. I think it's fascinating. People are always curious about what the stone really is, and I can understand why.

Not long ago, a lady tried to tell me that the stone in her bracelet was petrified moss:lol-2:

DH seems to be interested in my dusty old dishes, but maybe he's just humoring me.
Just like I feign interest in his cameras! Maybe it goes both ways......!

I use some of them. I have a stack of dishes and dessert plates in the cabinet that we use for dinner. And the small dishes are really good for dessert. Pie tastes better on a fancy antique dish!

Of course the older, fancier things are displayed.
My china cabinet is completely full. These newest dishes are stacking up in the living room. I don't know what I'm gonna do! I need more display space!

Hello, my name is Loretta and I'm (for lack of a better term) a dish-whore.

If you saw how many I have, you'd be shocked.

BUT, it would also surprise you at how many complete sets of fine china I have seen in thrift stores and consignment shops that is both beautiful and expensive and obviously no one in the family wanted it. I don't collect as much as I used to but every now and again I see something that I can't resist. Besides, jewelry takes up much less room.

Okay I’m back with a couple more things, maybe I’m feeling a little spendy with a birthday coming up.

I bought this, the carved portions are mother of pearl and it is gold filled, problem is that I don’t really know what to do with it lol! I just really loved the workmanship:

This is also on the way, I bought it to wear with my new agate pendant, now it looks like two of the links on the end (that don’t have cut-outs) are replacements so should I consider adding the mother of pearl thingy to this and take the replacements off? Do I do something else?

This is by Bates and Bacon and the T-bar is stamped FK, also gold-filled:

The mother of pearl watch fob thingy is wonderful! Really special.
And the other watch chain I think is called a double Albert?
So cool. Now you have to start wearing a vest.

My sister is to blame for my "old dish" problem.
She collects Flow Blue, and I guess it rubbed off on me!
I do love the flowing pieces, but any kind of transferware makes me happy!

@stracci2000 right? I couldn’t find anything else like it with carved mother of pearl links! Haha a vest now that would be a statement, sweatpants on the bottom and a vest on top. The new staying at home uniform!

You know I am really kicking myself for selling those two gold watch chains...ugh I had no appreciation for them then, sellers remorse is the pits :(

You're not the only one. I have sold some things that I'm sorry about, too. But I try not to think too much about it.

I popped into a pawn shop today, and saw this ring. OMG I want it so bad. $349, but they'd probably give 20% off.
A really bright and clear OEC, the tag said it was 1/4 carat.
But the prongs all need retipping, and one was missing altogether. But I don't want to pay for retipping, at $20/prong=$120+tax.
(not my fingers, BTW)

sweatpants on the bottom and a vest on top.

Super sexy! I think I saw someone dressed that way in the supermarket the other day. But there was no watch or chain, so the whole look was ruined.:P2

Oh beauty! I get it though, sometimes you have to let something good go because it just wouldn’t make sense. You know I’m a nut when it comes to prongs and those are in terrible shape, it shows though that somebody really loved that ring @stracci2000

Flow Blue is gorgeous! I have a couple of platters and I'm just amazed at how pretty they are.

I will pull them out and take some...there is one particular dish I try to search out. It's from American Commercial China, a company that was in business in Long Beach, Mississippi for a long time. I like it for its ties to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and how very useful it is. I'm pretty sure it was a restaurant ware since it's not decorated, but all the pieces are very substantial. I have some platters and shallow bowls of different sizes that would be used for soups/gumbo and salads.

I am not on FB but DH belongs to a group where people post free stuff. Couldn’t believe pass up this chair, it will need a professional cleaning to remove the stains in the tapestry.

OMG, that's beautiful!
What a lucky find!
You can try Woolite spray cleaner, it is a foam that you spray on and sponge off. It might work without you spending money for a professional cleaning.

Thanks for the suggestion @stracci2000, I figured I would keep it in the shed until it can be properly cleaned but I will give that a try and see. The real challenge will be keeping Dexter from destroying it. Might have to get some of those retro plastic covers the old Italians are famous for ;-)

Plastic covers are so weird!
I don't think any of my relations did that. No one had any nice furniture!
But about the Woolite fabric cleaner.....if you try it, avoid the colored parts of the upholstery.
I would just spray the foam into my hand and apply it that way, cause the spray shoots too far.
Good luck keeping the cat away!

Just popping in quick to show my agate pendant, I am loving this! Hanging on my new watch chain, I need to take more pics of the watch chain to do it proper justice.

So pretty! It looks great with the chain.
I love that stone. There's a lot of vintage/antique agate jewelry out there when you start looking.

Agate was never really on my radar but after seeing some of the amazing agate pieces on PS....pretty much opened Pandora’s box. Love the banded agate, very cool.

I found a watch chain an exact match to mine (minus the additional links on one side) that was being sold for double and dated it to the 1890’s.

The mother of pearl watch chain came today so I did a little operation. Removed the t-bars and locket and added the MOP watch chain and made the locket a stand-alone piece. I am amazed by the workmanship on this MOP watch chain, the rope details around the carved portions are extremely delicate. I’m not convinced it is gold filled because of how fine it is but I’m not going to test it.

The locket that originally came with the watch chain had a “rubbed” spot on the front, figured it was from the t-bar rubbing against it. Used a Sunshine cloth on it and good as new! Those cloths are the best!

Absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you!

Your grandmother’s watch chain that you have shared here is what originally hooked me on watch chains. You have a style that is effortless.

My Goodwill find from yesterday. I spotted it sitting on a piece of furniture and I (swear I) saw a light shining on it and heard angels singing. So, I took a very deep inhale and held it and eased over and put it in my cart. The price tag: $14.99. When I went to check out the young lady asked me if I was 55 or older. Well, yes....yes I am. So I got it for 50% off. It's a Mckee punchbowl, made from 1908-1920 in the horseshoe slew radiant daisy pattern. It weighs 13 pounds and holds 2 1/2 gallons of punch. There are some places that are cruddy and have to be cleaned....the cleaning will happen in my bathtub since it doesn't fit in a sink I have, or my dishwasher. It's going to look grand on my dining table at Christmas with twinkle lights and glittery ornaments with some greenery scattered amongst them. (Reduce, reuse, recycle!) IMG_9550.jpg IMG_9549.jpg
