i think I’m going to have to put a ring of mine on consignment somewhere as I’m not getting any interest listing it myself and I don’t want to take a huge bath on it. Who do you guys recommend?

I’m using LAD for my loose pear. The listing looks great (lots of pics and video) and I feel my stone is well represented. However I haven’t heard anything in regards to interest in it (I assume not many are interested in a pear shaped diamond) so I can’t comment on the success of the listing. I do know she also put it on her IG as well, so it is being seen.

Good luck and I hope you find a good fit for your goal of selling it.

@Wewechew Is this the rose & white gold ring with the diamond from Erica’s IG post that you are thinking of consigning?

Yes, that's the one I'm referring to.

Erica is on my short list. Glad to hear you've been happy with her so far :-)

Thanks. I’m hesitant to post this, but thought it *may* help explain the lack of interest you commented on - at least for me (as I really loved that diamond when I saw it listed & tried to buy it) ... and that is your asking price for a pre-loved piece (albeit still relatively new).

I saw Erica’s posting & asking price for that diamond on IG (as I’m sure others on here did as well, and it’s still visible, I believe). And most of us have an idea of what settings (even custom) run from known custom vendors (this one is not really ‘known’ too well on PS, I think). You’re obviously free to ask whatever price you want, but IMO your original asking price was pretty much ‘retail’ (and actually a little high IMO even if ‘at your cost’ for the custom ring). Personally, I might have considered buying it for conversion to a pendant (since that was my plan if I bought the diamond), but now it’s really just too cost prohibitive to absorb your full cost as well as mine to convert it (if that makes sense) for a pendant ... so for me - it just comes down to too much compromise for the cost.

As much as it super sucks to take a loss on items we sell preloved (even when they are essentially ‘new’), unless it’s a known/high-end piece like Leon, VCA, Tiffany, etc., I think it’s just the reality and risk we take and accept in this bling addiction of ours, that we end up taking 30-50% losses on items we have made and later opt to sell. I do wish you the best of luck with the sale - whether you consign or not. It’s a beautiful ring, I’m sure it’s perfect for someone out there, and I hope you take my feedback in the spirit in which I intended, which is to hopefully be helpful. :wavey:

Yes, I was trying to not take too big of a loss on it since it was new. I've also been in the position of listing something and taking a considerable loss and then having a seller haggle with me, creating even more of a loss, so I was trying to not price it too low even though there is wiggle room for the least I would take it for at this point.

All things to consider. Thank you :-)

I remember seeing that stone on her IG and reaching out to purchase for a project that I had inmind, but it had already sold. That has not even 2 months ago, do you mind if I ask why you changed your mind? Perhaps you could rework the piece to something more appealing.

It's a beautiful stone and an amazing ring, but it's just not "me"; it's a bit too blingy. I should probably know myself better by now as I've bought and sold other halo'd pieces over the years for the same reason, but in my mind that was the best way to set the stone to make it shine. I'd really rather not take apart the ring and put the stone in something else as the entire setting would be worthless at that point.

I'd use Erica at LAD again. Her consignment fees are so reasonable and she's (in my opinion) so easy to deal with.

I disagree that we all need to take a 30-50% "loss" on our baubles. I always list my pieces for what Erica suggests. If someone wants to offer less, fine. But I can tell you I've dealt with PS'ers who were downright rude and obnoxious with their "offers" and nasty comments on what I should be selling my stuff for. This was mostly on LT, I didn't really have any negative issues once I sent my stuff off to Erica.

Also, some of us have diamonds that are VERY hard to replace and they are worth more than a comp. For example, if I were to sell my antique pear diamond, I would list it for every penny I paid because it's so hard to find and it could not be replaced for less. Just my two cents.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed that I have funds if you do - your chubby pear is still one of my favourite ever rings!

:wavey: Sorry, I didn’t intend for my comment re: the potential losses to be taken as gospel or a blanket statement; more of a general statement. Obviously, hard to replace/replicate items fall into a different category. But most folks who’ve commented on resale of non-big branded/non-designer pieces or those that are not otherwise ‘irreplaceable’ have shared that same estimate on here before.

And yea, that antique pear ring of yours ... :lickout::lickout:

I loss a little bit of money + $1700 on the setting when I sold my Octavia. I sold the ring on DB within 24hrs.

Good post for me to see today. I've had several items on consignment with Erica @LAD and I'd use her again and again in a heartbeat. I just discounted two of my items...again. Did so for a quick sale for some funds!

It's no secret I am very intimidated by this whole jewelry buying/selling process. And yes, Erica is a sweetheart and absolutely easy to work with. Erica remains calm, reasonable, level-headed. Her ego isn't completely absorbed in her work and she communicates immediately via email, IM, text. Erica, IMHO is a nice, decent person.

I also think Erica's representation of items on LAD is thorough, honest and fair. Nothing is doctored up, presented in a silly manner, or blown way out-of-proportion. Erica puts a LOT of work into preparing items for her website and I think the end results speak for themselves.

But with that said, I agree with both @soxfan and @the_mother_thing in certain regards.

@the_mother_thing ...IMHO, prices for pre-loved stuff are all over the place. If someone has coveted a piece here on PS and in Pre-Loved PS Jewels, the piece will go at/near the asking price lickety-split. If there is a following (per se) for the designer, or the piece, lickety-split...done deal asking price.

The asking prices on JBG, LAD, PS, DB and all the "consignment" or pre-owned sites are crazy, all over the place, IMHO. Remember, pieces with our fellow "consigners" are vetted, checked, sent off for some refurbishment (the whole prong drama), etc. Lots of time, money and effort goes into pieces prior to them jumping up on a consignment website. The folks who do all the work must be paid (and Erica's fees are extremely low, IMHO).

AND ONE CAN ALWAYS MAKE AN OFFER!

@soxfan is correct, too. Especially with LT and DB, I've received the craziest (and sometimes nastiest) emails and comments about my stuff. Erica has received some outrageous comments & offers, too which I'm sure she's spared me the details. Some sellers DO own items that are very unique, very custom, well vetted and difficult to find elsewhere. And I stress well vetted, right? If the value, uniqueness, rareness and everything else about a piece is ALSO well known, well then...why shouldn't the seller get their absolute highest asking price for their item?

AND ONE CAN ALWAYS MAKE AN OFFER!

For the most part, YES, prospective buyers know the "new" piece prices, they also know what folks originally paid for an item and they also know how far to push. And push they do...no problem.

Most important, prospective buyers also know the quality of what they are purchasing with most consignment items because IMHO, consigners like Erica and Grace are pretty honest and they thoroughly vet items prior to accepting them on consignment. There is generally no BS with anything sold by most consigners known to PS, right?

Take it from someone who took a $7000+ loss on an AWFUL MRB diamond from a local brick 'n mortar store: I can say I completely TRUST most of the folks selling here on PS and LT 'cause I know their integrity and "reputations," (for the most part) and I know who they are.

Doesn't seem like most people selling here, or our fellow consigners are attempting to take advantage of people. THAT IS IT--the main reason I list via these previously mentioned venues, even if the prices initially seem a bit steep.

But on the flip side, you also got how many years of enjoyment out of it ... as well as all of us who got to admire that gorgeous diamond?

@Wewechew keep in mind the time of year also ... it’s back-to-school time for a lot of families, so bling budgets may not be as plentiful right now. Just another thought.

Yes! You are so correct! I didn't think of this at all! Back-to-school with less money for jewelry stuff and I'm sure, less time for it, too! Thanks!

Darn kids all interfering with our bling goals!

KIDDING (just in case anyone’s sarcasm detector is broke) :mrgreen2:

I read this thread and was hoping to see a pic of the pear ring in question? Show me? :D
