Who is as good as Leon Mege at Harry Winston-inspired halo?

Re: Who is as good as Leon Mege at Harry Winston-inspired ha

PS. my ring size is 4.75 and i am fairly small-boned and that's part of what's driving my desire for a more delicate 1.5mm shank, but i'd love to get your thoughts since you of course own one!

Re: Who is as good as Leon Mege at Harry Winston-inspired ha

I am very happy with my choice of 1.5 mm especially when paired with a wedding band. The total thickness is ideal for me. I have not had any problems with 1.5 mm + 1 mm band. This is my split shank set though. I wear the set together but I take them off when I get home.

I don't wear my halo ring enough to give feedback on durability but I suspect I wouldn't have an issue as well. Many people prefer thicker like 1.8 mm. My friend's ring is 1.8 mm and it was too bulky for my liking but on the reverse 1.5 mm is too thin for her liking.

I don't have other comparison shots but my halo is second from the left (1.5 mm) and the fourth oec ring is 1.8 mm.

You have to decide what type of pave you want. Most of LM's rings are made with u-cut pave / cutdown pave. The ones in this photo and the LM ring you linked is with V-cut pave.

I hate to tell you this but you are not going to get an ERD cad/cast ring to look like a LM ring. You are going to be disappointed. You have to level set your expectations.

I think this was the point I was making very badly before. It will NOT look exactly like a LM or a ring made by Victor. The angles, the amount of metal showing between stones and the edges of the ring, or specifically the lack there of will be different in a cast ring to one made by Leon or Victor. The handmade ones make the pave sort of blend and melt more in harmony with the centre stone if that makes sense.

Hey OP
Can you post the difference in cost between ERD, VC. LM, etc?

I ask because when I did this exercise for my wife's ring, the difference was significant.

Re: Who is as good as Leon Mege at Harry Winston-inspired ha

If price is a big consideration and you are willing to go non-local, your best bet is Maytal Hannah. Her prices are lower than LM, SK, VC but work is still hand made and better than CAD/CAST.

CharmyPoo - thank you, as always, for the very thoughtful and detailed response. I have to say, you're somewhat famous in certain circles :) We were at ERD today and Chris wasn't surprised at all when I started referencing your Cushion 101 Guide. He said you have a very high jewelry IQ!

His basic advice was to not go below 1.7mm on CAD but ok to go to 1.5mm on hand. The price difference with them between CAD vs. hand forged is about $1K.

He also showed us a bunch of cushions and we decided that we like the modern antique cushions best. Down to two stones with him, will post those in a separate string.

WillyDiamond - here are the price differences:

LM won't set an outside stone but his price quoted was the same as VC (VC said i'll save 5% on the setting if I get the stone with him as well). SK was ~$1K more than LM and i didn't like his work nearly as much as SK.

ERD CAD cast is $1K less than their hand forged.

I am leaning very heavily towards hand forged ERD because they also stand behind their work. Chris said if a stone were to ever fall out, they would replace it at no cost - for the lifetime of the ring. Plus, they buy back the diamond you buy from them -25% off, or they give you 100% credit if you 'upgrade' your diamond and spend 25% more.

WillyDiamond, what price differences did you see?

Re: Who is as good as Leon Mege at Harry Winston-inspired ha

WillyDiamond - just read your post saying you went with ERD for your wife's upgraded ring. It turned out beautiful! Did you go for their CAD or hand-forged option? thanks!

I don't think that it's fair to say that she will be disappointed. Clearly, there are differences between hand-forged designer rings (like those by LM, SK, VC, etc.) and CAD-made rings by ERD. My dream was a VC halo, but after doing my research, I chose an ERD CAD (by Chris). I am not the least bit disappointed and I adore my ring. Money was not the issue (I could have easily spent the extra money on a LM, SK, VC), but I felt very comfortable spending a little less, while still managing to get the exact ring that I had envisioned. I found my happy medium and others have too =)

Re: Who is as good as Leon Mege at Harry Winston-inspired ha

Just saw your post, sorry for late response.
The price difference between ERD vs. the other guys was well over $1000, in fact maybe closer to $2000. I looked for my notes but cannot find them, sorry.
Hand forged or cad? I don't know. Perhaps Momhappy can answer that question or if you want to call Chris at ERD, he can tell you for sure.

edit: I just reread Momhappy's post so I think it is CAD.

Point well taken.

My opinion is that you can't really go wrong with ERD. Both Chris and Mark are very customer oriented and do what it takes to keep their customers happy. They fix and change things out of their own pocket to keep customers happy. I have referred a number of my real life friends to them and all of them have been happy with their purchases - ERD works to people's budgets and has a product for everyone.
