Who Whitby the Dog Lover

Whitby, my thoughts and prayers are with you, Tim and Angelo. As heart wrenching as his story is, I''m glad you and Tim are there for him and that he will know that the world does have love in it. Things like this that happen to babies/kids..they hurt me to the very bottom of my soul. My husband gets upset with me for reading about them, but I tell him, it takes ONE person to read it and to care and be able to do something. You give me hope that other kids will have their own Whitby''s and Tim''s to show them love in their lives.

Whitby, I just wanted to say "hi" and let you know that I always enjoy your thoughtful posts! You clearly have much wisdom and generously share it with others. I feel that the internet is made for that kind of openness and I always appreciate it when I see it. Cheers.

so, after a very difficult post (and some wonderful, warm responses from some wonderful, warm PSers) here''s something completely different..... :)

yesterday was my birthday, and i had a few people over for nibblies and drinks. here''s the menu - ALL home made:

pate, herbed cheese call, mixed antipasto platter (marinated mushrooms, artichoke hearts, roasted sweet peppers and caponata) with hot baked bread, prosciutto and melon, hot meatballs with sour cream and sweet chili sauce, jumbo shrimp with home made spicy cocktail sauce, marinated chicken wings, baby tomatoes stuffed with creamed cheese and pesto, eggs filled with jumbo lump crab mayonnaise and topped with black caviar. for dessert we had strawberry short cake b''day cake (which we bought from the local patisserie) and chocolate caramel cups (yes, i made those myself!). we had champagne, red and white wine, water, beer and, for those who couldn''t go without, pepsi! the food was fabulous and a great time was had by all.

my best girlfriend wendy, who is over here visiting from australia, and i cooked and cleaned for 3 days for the big event, tim took friday off work to help us get the job done, and my best friend in the US, david, flew over from LA for the weekend. could a girl be more spoiled??

tim picked me up a helium balloon while out and about which said ''BIRTHDAY PARTY!'' and tied it to the front of the house. when i got up this morning, someone (i have no idea who!) had tied another one to it! you just have to love a friend who sneaks to your house in the middle of the night and ties a helium balloon to your front door on your birthday! :D

photos loaded shortly!

oh - and the weather never did clear up, so we didn''t get to use the newly finished back yard! the party ended up inside and on the verandah (it was wet and muggy, not cold) and that worked just fine. :)

so here we go with some photos....

first of all, some beautiful orchids, delivered to me during the day, from my husband. here they are on the coffee table in my living room.

s_IMG_2723.jpg

and some more gorgeous flowers - peony''s - my all time favorite flower! - from my friend, david. don''t they look like pink swans!

s_IMG_2715.jpg

everybody likes a drink! we had a ''drinks ice bucket'' with the beer and soda and water set up out on the verandah. the wine and champagne was brought up progressively during the evening....

s_IMG_2726.jpg

unfortunately, nobody got a shot of the food when it was all out. add to these photos the pate, a cheese and herb ball, shrimp and hot meatballs and you''re starting ot get a clearer picture. :)

s_IMG_2730.jpg

here you can see the prosciutto and melon, the crab eggs with caviar, the marinated chicken wings, the cocktail sauce for the shrimp (not in this photo), the antipasto (marinated mushrooms, roasted sweet peppers, artichoke hearts, beans and tuna, and caponata), and hiding behind the peonies are the stuffed baby tomatoes. yum!

s_IMG_2734.jpg

here''s a close up of the tomatoes.... soooo labor intensive!

s_IMG_2728.jpg

and here''s the antipasto!

s_IMG_2729.jpg

we ended with a beautiful strawberry shortcake from our local patisserie....

and here''s dixon wishing his mommy a very happy birthday; have you ever seen a dog more clearly smiling? look at those eyes!

whitby, everything looked great. Your table, the food, the bar set up, everything! but we wouldn''t expect any less from you! And Dixon is such a handsome dog!

How did you have the patience to stuff those baby tomatoes? Oiy!

Wow whitby you are an absolutely amazing person! The world needs more like you for sure! I LOVE your babies and can''t even get into the Angelo story. Your birthday bash looked amazing too. Your family and friends are lucky people:)

awww - thanks linda, gemgirl and kelli! we had such a great time!

i''m a bit disappointed we didn''t get more shots of the completed table; when the food was all out it looked WONDERFUL! i also made chocolate and caramel cups - you start by making slightly burnt toffee which is then combined with melted chocolate and set in tiny little gold foil cups with a roasted walnut inserted on top. they''re the size of a truffle, and about the same consistency, and about the most delicious thing on God''s green earth!! they''re fiddly - but SO delicious and festive looking. the pate and the cheese ball (about the size of a baseball and covered in chopped herbs) were on the coffee table, which is in the living room, so there was food spread out between the two rooms. it was all such fun! :)

only 4 weeks late in replying, i''m sorry.

yes, we had a fabulous evening and the dogs were the center of attention and the life of the party. they continually circled the room, getting pats from everybody and having a great time.

a bit like me, really :)

thanks for your good wishes.

Whitby, you and your husband are such special people! Your dogs are just gorgeous as are you and your home. I think the color of your dining room may be the same color we have in our living room. I love it!

I''m responding to these posts for both of us as Kareyn is no longer posting to PriceScope and has asked for her account to be closed down. The celebration was a great day. Special and romantic. Family and friends present, food great, weather perfect. It was my honor to stand in front of the people important to us and tell them again how much I love Kareyn.

I''m back in NY now and she''s still in Australia for another 4 days. The dogs and I will be pleased when she gets home! She has a radio interview Friday afternoon re her book and perhaps another one before she comes home, and it looks like her book has been entered in the Australian Children''s Book Council awards. We won''t know if she''s been short listed till the list comes out, but it''s looking hopeful. She''s very pleased and I''m very proud of her as this is quite an honor.

Kareyn asked me to express her thanks to you Monarch, Upgradable and Lori, for your kind wishes. We had a wonderful vacation and an excellent 25th anniversary celebration, and I''m looking forward to the next 50!

Best of luck in with your pursuits.

Oh Tim!!!!! NO!

I'm very sad that Kareyn won't be back with us. She brought a beautiful light to our Board. I really looked forward to reading her posts. I'm hoping everything is OK and she's just too busy.

Please tell her that I and dozens of people will miss her. We all loved her.

I wish you and Kareyn the very best, always.......
