Hi all,

I'm new to pricescope and landed here after lurking a bunch and reading up on diamonds and finding the HCA calculator. I'm about to buy an engagement ring and wanted to make sure I got the absolute best diamond I can afford. Here are my criteria:

$4000 budget
0.8 ct+
H+
SI1+
GIA certified 3 ex

I've narrowed it down to 6 diamonds that all meet these criteria on James Allen and each has an HCA score under 2.0 and each with a depth% between 61-62.5 and a table% of 54-57. I asked James Allen about ideal scope images but they don't have them on file for any of these diamonds. Since I'd imagine you guys have seen a lot of diamonds I was hoping you could give your input on what might be the best looking (most brilliance and fire).

If you guys have any other advice, please do share them as I want to make the best choice possible. Thanks!

Going by the photos alone, B is my favorite.

Thanks! Can you say a bit about why? I choose these ones because of the dark, (seemingly) uniform arrows but don't have a ton else to go with from there.

I like the brighter perimeter and that the contrast reflections don’t seem to obscure the arrows. Hopefully that makes sense! FWIW, my second choice is D.

This is what I'd do:

https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/compare.aspx?idnos=3964547,3961918,3916981,3895785,3880151

Pick one of these. They are all ideal cut and within your parameters EXCEPT being GIA. In this case, they're all AGS super-ideal cut diamonds which will outsparkle just about anything you find on JA that's GIA XXX. I realize I'm a WF fangirl, but that's because I have WF ACAs and they blow my mind. Also, they have an amazing upgrade policy, should you ever want to size up (or increase color, etc).

Or, you can also try High Performance Diamonds or Brian Gavin - they also have superideal diamonds.

HTH!

Thanks for the advice, HNL! I mainly want to stick to JA because there's a setting they have on there that I think my girlfriend would absolutely love. If not for that, I would certainly look at other sites.

David klass could make any setting on JA (except with better workmanship and more refined detailing) for comparable price. Also many jewelers can access "branded" settings (Gabriel & Co., ritani, tacori, etc.), if the setting you like happens to be branded.

I looked up David Klass and will send him an email. Thanks for the tip!

I'm seeing DK recommended more and more for custom settings (and while I have had successful projects with him and fully support using him), if your time frame is less than 1 month and if you are very particular, I would not recommend going custom.

Perhaps if you post the setting, we can recommend similar style ones.

Agreed.
