A good Margarita

Before getting pregnant I discovered a love for Margaritas. I had brought some Don Julio Reposado from Mexico (P.S. none of the Mexicans I spoke to even knew what Patron was so this tequilla came highly recommended by them). DJ is just so incredibly smooth and the margaritas Mr. Fiery would make for me were

Knob Creek is my bourbon of choice but there are a couple of places where we go that make good ones with Maker''s Mark.


at home my go to before dinner is a tall glass of ice, add 1/3 cup San Pellegrino aranciata [italian orange soda], 1/3 cup campari, and then another 1/3 cup of the italian orange soda on top of that. don''t even have to stir........in fact, i''m having one right now!

I also like the occasional Meyers Rum Sour.


However, I usually stick to wine or beer - I can suck those mixed drinks down like soda pop so I usually avoid them.

Hmm...I''ve never had a Meyers Rum Sour - I might have to give that a try.

I have this hilarious application on my iPhone that lists ingredients/instructions for literally thousands of cocktails. It even has them organized by suggestions based on what kind of mood you are in.

I agree with you on the wine though - I can drink way less of that so I try to stick with it except on special occasions.

It''s a *very* reasonably priced black cherry vanilla vodka, but it is *delicious*.
When I met DH, this was his favorite drink, too, so at least I knew he had good taste.

ETA: My favorite cocktails are usually amaretto sours or anything with champagne in it!

I like a lot of different things, but these are my favs:
Margarita on the rocks, no salt
Captain Morgan Private Stock and Ginger Ale (or coke) with lime
Most white ales or hefeweizen beer (like Blue Moon, Shocktop, or Sam Adam''s White Ale)
White Sangria
Bellinis
etc., etc.

Ooo, I will have to try that tequila! Since I think sipping any hard alcohol, even Patron, is totally gross

it doesn't really matter if I get Patron. So I want to try other tequilas in my margaritas! Even if something isn't top class, it still tastes pretty good in a margarita. And the Patron is getting expensive!

I usually go for an Irish whiskey or Scotch, neat.

But I made up a fun cucumber-melon martini the other night!

1 cup pureed honeydew
2 oz vodka
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp lime juice
cucumber, thinly sliced (on a mandoline, if you''ve got one)

Line the martini glass with cucumber slices. Shake together the pureed melon, sugar, vodka, and lime juice. Pour into cucumber-lined glass. If you want the cucumber flavor to be a bit stronger, either premix the drink and let it hang out with some cucumber slices in the fridge (although the cukes will soak up some of the vodka) or puree a bit of cucumber as well, and blend in with the melon.

Oof- this thread is making me miss booze.

My favorites are Cherry Vodka Sours (as long as they're done right) and Whiskey and Cokes.

ETA: How could I forget Mimosas? Mmmmm.

Bourbon and diet. I am not picky I will drink Beam, but I do love MM and Woodford...I am a KY girl!

but I loooooove a good gin and tonic! That has to be my fave mixed drink of all time.

I also like whiskey sours. There is a dive bar near me that sells liters of whiskey sours!

I have become such a wine-o that I hardly drink hard alcohol anymore. I thrive off of big delicious California Cabs. I really really adore red wine. If FI and I had gotten married next year instead of this one our honeymoon was going to be Napa. I think we will still take the trip next year anyway if we are doing well with money.

My favorite true cocktail is a Key Lime Pie Martini.

splash of fresh lime juice
squirt of whipped cream
2 oz of vanilla codka
1 oz of pineapple juice

shake over ice and strain into a glass

MC, I''m with ya! I almost never drink hard alcohol and after going without it for a few years I''m finding I can''t stand it anymore (except for my beloved margaritas

which were the reason for starting this thread). I adore wine and beer though and have those 99% of the time.

I think you''ve inspired me to start a favorite beer thread now! I know you like your microbrews, so you''ll have to share some of your favorites.

My absolute fave is Malibu Pineapple; I think it''s just b/c I love pineapple and pineapple juice. Just Malibu rum and pineapple juice.
