What's wrong with this diamond?

Hello,

I found the below information regarding a diamond on uniondiamonds.com. However, when I look at the pricing report and what not on here, the price is much lower then what it potentially should be. I have verified the report on the EGL website, and know that EGL is not always the most accurate in its grading, however, is it a scam if this diamond is listed for $5,995?

Been looking around at these things and getting frustrated with trying to find the perfect diamond and setting for her. Any help would be appreciated. I would like to find a platinum setting with a few side diamonds(nothing major on the setting) and a nice size(.90 to 1 would be great), good quality diamond (nothing worse then VS2 ideally) for somewhere in the 5-8k range. Let me know if that is unreasonable as well?

I don't recommend EGL stones because they are not good value for consumers.

Likely the fluorescence affects its price.

Hi mastrieg- It seems you are just about to go through what I just have. I can't tell you much about the diamond in question, but if you've just begun searching then there's things I CAN suggest about the logistics of searching.

There's plenty of sites to search on. You might start with the diamond search function here on PS and see what vendors it leads you to.

And- this tool is a good start to weed out initial bad candidates:

There's some threads on H/A history you may find interesting if you don't mind a little thread scouring and this thread shows and discusses Idealscope images:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/images-of-h-a-vs-non-h-a-stones.74204/

I'd suggest looking for a bit, crunching some numbers and coming up with a couple of possibilities you can put on hold somewhere then post links in PS for people to discuss. (One word of caution; it may have just been my personal experience or general policy but some places seem to have a limit on how many IS requests you can do, so I'd weed first before asking for the images to be safe.) I also would recommend GIA or AGS as the diamond cert. AGS is cool because you often get both pattern images to look at and a plot of where flaws are.

Good luck! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

It is impossible to say that the price is too low due to the fact you really don't know the true color and clarity. It could easily be J or K color and VS2, SI1 or lower for clarity. I strongly recommend dealing with GIA so you can have accurately graded stones. You are more likely to overpay for an EGL stone, actually.
