Thank you Linda! The daylillies are just blooming away. It''s absolutely gorgeous.

OT: Have you heard from Gailey? I know she''s been a busy bee lately.

No I haven''t. She hasn''t posted much at all. Do you fertilize your plants at all?? They are so darn green!!

36.gif

Yes, I do fertilize them...when I remember to.

I use to be so anal about these plants to the point where it wasn''t fun for me. Now that I''ve found PS, not not so bad. So...PS is very therapeutic...HEHEHE!!

We live in a equestrian acreage area so I can get all the horse poop that I want. I use that also but I have to be very careful with it because Max tries to gobble at it (sorry, sort of graffic) and all that nasty stuff.

I thnk Gailey has been very busy with her job. I miss her.

LOL Mochi, well the horse poop, sure does make your flowers and plants green. Dogs sure eat weird things don''t they??? Why in the world would they want to eat horse poop, or their own poop for that matter.

9.gif

Then they want to give you a kiss...YUCK!!

Oh, BTW...the bunnies are gone. They must have gotten big enough to hop away. I am finding bunny poops in my yard now...can we al say YAY for free fertilizer!!

Oh my goodness, SP!! I'm suprised your house hasn't floated away! We need rain here in the south.

Bebe!! Love your new plants. Absolutely gorgeous! I'll post more pictures of the hydrangeas as they bloom more. I believe I have one that is red. They are absolutely finicky about the location and the amount of sunlight they receive. I have mine on the northern part of the house, in mostly shade. I haven't yet been able to grow geraniums.

Lovin...Thank you so much. Would love to see others post their lovely plants!

((((hugs)))) to you Monkeypants!

Hey girls I''m back! Aww, you missed me, I''m so touched

Now, I''ve just got to go and rustle up some egg on toast for our 16th wedding anniversary dinner (yep, not joking, egg on toast!), and then I''ll be back.

XXXXX

mochi, you have to show me - seriously? red hydrangeas? !!

I think I''ve seen bronze, but maybe they were dried, dunno.
do you alter their color with Epson Salt?

I have this area in my backyard that I call the "morgue", it''s where I put plants
that can''t make it! My hydrangeas are there, poor little things, but the area is
partly shaded, one would think they''d love it there. Who knows.

Octoberfest (posted previously). This one is a rebloomer.
Mochi, that Octoberfest is to die for. I gotta find that one this year!

I''m sorry I disappeared the other Saturday. Shortly after that last post, I got a phone call to tell me that one of my dearest friends had died that morning. I can''t believe it. I''ve lost 3 friends in 7 months, it''s been a tough winter in so many ways.

But the sun is gracing us with it''s presence for the odd day and I have been out at work. The minute the snow disappears and the sun comes out everyone wants there gardens sorted out, and they want it NOW! We have such a short season that it''s manic at this time of year.

In fact, this weekend is the traditional long weekend that everyone in Calgary plants their annuals outside. Fortunately, for me it''s too damn cold this year, so Mr Gailey and I can enjoy our wedding anniversary without me worrying that I should be out planting. He''s taking me somewhere for the weekend, but I don''t know where - exciting!

I promised some shots of some of my daylillies. I was sure I had more photos than I''ve found, but I''ve swapped computers in the last year, so I have to do some more hunting.

Anyway, without further ado, here are a few that I found. I''m embarrassed to say that I didn''t label these photos, so I can''t tell you off the top of my head what they are called. But if you like any of them in particular, I''ll dig out the details.

Wow, Mochi - you have a GREEN thumb!

The only flowers in my garden ar ein my front yard. I have some awesome roses that are just exploding right now.

original.aspx
Lauren, those roses look so healthy! Look at those dark green glossy leaves - amazing!

Why is it that you quote some posts and the photo shows up and others it doesn''t? Anyone know?

This is the stream out front, which has a native plant, affectionately called skunk cabbage, growing alongside and sometimes in the stream! This is our first spring in our home, and I am currently researching appropriate streamside plants for this area. I''m open to suggestions if anyone has them . . .
LV, where abouts do you live? Do you know what zone you are in? I''ll come up with some suggestions for you. Have you got a large area around the stream?

Oh dear, I''m so sorry for your loss. Such a difficult time and to have so many in such a short time.

Okay Mochi and Gailey, you are making a zone 5 gal jealous. Only the spring bulbs are blooming. And the hellebores. My house is going to be on a garden walk in July and I''m in panic mode. But I''d rather be digging in the dirt than in a jewelry store.
Lulu, Zone 5, you''ve got nothing to be jealous of with me Hon, I''m in 3b! I''ve had Helebores (one of my absolute favourites) for 7 years, it''s only ever bloomed once!

Get yourself a delivery of some fine composted mulch, and anything you haven''t weeded or prettied up by the time the garden walk comes around you can plonk down mulch. It will cover up weeds (just don''t forget where they are!), and you can bury the odd potted plant you''ve brought in for a bit of instant impact. No-one will ever know.

yellow one..
aahh. I love yellow flowers,,, just wanted to chime in and tell you have a great garden Mochi.
I love them too, especially when they are one of the first things to flower after a long winter, such as we have in Calgary. I went to Rundlewood Gardens today and their Adonis vernalis was just begining to flower. It''s glorious. The picture below is not from their garden, but by John Lonsdale

I love this daylilly. It''s such a beautiful red with a yellowish green throat. Blooms like crazy.
Wow! I love that one Mochi, please find out what it is. Can you take a frontal pic?

Whoops, there it is! Gorgeous. It''s not Bette Davis is it. That has a green throat I believe. I bought one of those, but it must have been mis-labled.

Puleeeese tell me you are composting that horse doo-doo before you use it. I bet composting takes nano-seconds in California and Florida.

mochi, I love Hydrangeas, but cannot keep them to save my life. I don''t know what I''m doing wrong. My fav''s are mopheads and Oakleaf.
Your Daylillies are awesome, love the colors.

I put this at my front door. We will see long it stays nice, ha ha!!
Bebe, gorgeous containers! What a neat idea. When I first looked at the photograph, I thought they were standard miniture lilacs, but they''re not. What does the actual container that the million bells are in?

I always find that Hydrangeas do best for me when they are planted in dappled shade, and an eastern location when they get morning sun. I haven''t got any, but I took some neat photos of some at Wisley when we were in the UK last September. Glorious fall colour.

Oh Gailey-3b! I spent the last three days cutting my new crescent shaped moonlight garden. Today I did the fun part-buying the plants. I got a very pale pink daylily-Cathryn Woodward? A beautiful delphinium, white verbena, 3 moonflower vines, white lupine, white liatris and a white pansy they claim is perennial and blooms all summer. Very excited about the project!

One of the things I like best about a moonlight garden is the things that have gorgeous scent at night. Do you have room for a Nicotiana sylvestris. It''s a tall annual. If you are just starting this new garden this year, some night scented annuals might be a good idea. There''s also a double white petunia that smells wonderful at night.

Pansies are great these days. Long gone are the days when they gave up the ghost in July. I dead head mine religiously and feed them with half strength tomato food once a week.

Cathryn Woodbury daylily leaves me cold I''m afraid, but that''s probably because I always see it looking washed out in glaring July sunlight. I bet it looks fantastic at night. It''s certainly hugely popular and very floriferous.

Don''t know if you''ve got room for (or even like) clematis, but I just love C. Blekitny Aniol (Blue Angel) looks fantastic in my garden at night.

Lulu, I'' ve just read this again. Year before last I bought perenial pansies. I think they are a pretty short lived perennial (in zone 3b anyhow!), but I didn''t deadhead them and they did seed quite readily.

I was a bit sceptical about a red hydrangea, so I did some digging (pardon the pun!). Checlk out this Gardener''s web thread. Apparently there are red (well deep rosy pink) hydrangeas that are bred to be red in any soil.
